Kiki’s Travels

My brother is letting me take his car to Madison.  They don’t want to leave it sitting at their house all week as they too have gone away.  Not only did he give me gas money but he also has an I-Pass.  Talk about win. :)

Usually it’s just me and my mum for Thanksgiving but this time we have 9 other people joining us.  I come from a big family so I’m always down for big family style dos.

I plan on kickin it hard this week.  Not because I’ve been doing anything overly strenuous but merely because I feel like it.  Staycations are kinda where it’s at for me these days. ;)

I really blame unemployment for making me become a person that is always running behind schedule.  I used to be the one that was always annoying early for things.  Now after a year of never having to be anywhere on time, I’ve becoming a person who is always trying to catch up.  Boo.

Unemployment 1, Kiki 0

So… I have found out that my unemployment will not be renewed when it runs out next month.  It’s crazy to just have zero dollars coming in.  I cannot afford to live here when that happens so I will be returning to Madison to live with my mum.  I’m trying to be optimistic.  I would much rather not go.  I  have til May 10th and then I will be going back to Wisconsin.  I guess keep your fingers crossed for me that I find a job before then.  Living in Madison will crush my spirit so I’m definitely not looking forward to it.  Yikes, talk about depressing post right? ;)

Insomnia Kiki

I’ve been having mad insomnia lately.  I’m just up at 3am just kickin it.  Kickin it with who you ask?  Exactly.  No one.  I stare at the ceiling listening to my ipod anxiously awaiting dawn.  Definitely not cute.  Boo.

Hot Vinyl Mess Kiki

Lately it doesn’t seem that strange that I’m up and at ‘em at the crack of dawn cuz I just wake up and get ready to go to  the gym.  Today I have to take Joia to school to help Jessica out so instead I am lying in bed typing this post as Joia watches Sponge Bob.  Hanging out with a kid at 630 in the morning is actually right up my alley cuz I can never seem to find anyone who actually wants to have conversations with me this early in the morning but Joia definitely has a lot to say.  LOL.

I’ve been listening to a lot of mixes lately.  There’s some really good ones floating around.  I’m really digging the Faironne, the new Random Movement Podcast and I’m still listening to the Quantrek.  There’s a bunch of others too but it’s just silly to list them all.

In other news, I’m in vinyl hell.  One way I’ve been combating the unemployment blues is I’ve developed a sort of schedule.  I just make sure I incorporate a bunch of stuff in my day to help time go by faster.  I don’t want to be a lazy loser just lying on the couch watching telly.  It’s not really a time schedule, it’s more of a “at some point during the day do this” schedule.  One of those things is mix for an hour or however long I decide.  This task has become harder and harder as my records are in complete disarray.  My records used to be organised.  I took an extended amount of time many years ago and came up with a pretty awesome system.  Back then I had an abundance of crates and just sorted them out that way.  Then I got this lovely record shelf from one of my friends and I was so excited the day I got it that I just started pulling shit randomly from crates and putting them on the shelf.  Now the shelf just serves as a purpose to “put records away.”  They are in no particular order and it sucks.  I can’t find a bloody thing.  I started organising them yesterday. *sigh*  It is going to take forever.  Boo. :(

Relax Kiki Relax

I think it’s funny to tell people to relax.  My old coworker Mallory used to do it all the time.

I had a last second mix outing yesterday.  My friend Caleb was mixing at People’s Lounge and asked if I wanted to join him cuz they were short a dj.  I obliged.  It was nice and chill.  Good times.

YES!  It’s finally friday.  I’ve been working my ass off this week and will gladly take this weekend to kick it.  It’s supposed to be really nice out and Do Division is this weekend too, so I’m expecting to do nothing but to hang outside, lounge and eat.  Woot.

Got my hip hop/rap fix and saw Dj Revolution on saturday.  He is awesome.

In “No One Cares What You Think Kiki” news,  I just want to say that I do not like SpectraSoul’s Organizer.  It’s no secret that I’m actually a big Spectrasoul fan, it’s just that I’m just sick of hearing that track on every mix and I don’t think it’s dope at all.

So I made my top 25 of 2008. I feel like it’s a bit nonsense to do this because a) I cheated and just did it from May onwards cuz that’s when I started my blog and have detailed documentation of all the tracks I liked and b) I obsess over tracks so much there’s no way I like a track that I heard in May as much as I do one I like today cuz of the whole “playing on repeat constantly” factor. I have totally been a crappy blogger the past couple of days. :( This week has been super busy for me so I’m actually happy to see the weekend show it’s beautiful face.

There’s a lot of stuff going on for me today. Not only is it Reisha’s bday but she’s also graduating from college AND it’s Ike’s going away party which is also a combo bash for Stunna’s bday. Yikes, that’s a lot of stuff.

Today’s Oldie: Kraken – Side Effects (Underfire 1999) This track is ridiculous. I remember people going insane over it. I was one of them.  So sick!  Great fun to mix and just grimey.  Love it!

Mind The Gap Please

My train ride to work was absolutely hilarious. To me it was anyways. The pure hilarity of being on a train car that’s chocablock full and you have to stand soooo close to other people while pretending that it’s not really that big of a deal is just pure comedy to me. I was seriously sandwiched between these two dudes that were some how on either side of me, grossgusting grinding in a douchebag club style, and all three of us had to pretend that it wasn’t weird. I kept listening to my ipod and tried to look down on the floor but I really just thought the whole thing was way too funny. At some point I did bust up laughing. They weren’t really that amused and I’m sure decided I was crazy. Whatever though, I’m totally used to people thinking I’m weird so I just laughed merrily and waited to get off at my stop.  Silly morning indeed.

I must say that I don’t really ride my bike to work as much anymore. I am still in love with it but I know that I’m not enough of an enthusiast that I have to be on it all hours of the day. I love the whole riding aspect but I don’t think I’m obsessed enough with it to cart it to every single destination and go through the whole locking up process. I find it quite annoying actually. Yes I’m easily annoyed, ask any of my friends, they’ll agree. It’s just that lately I’ve had so much stuff to do after work that the thought of having to lock my bike up 4 or more times after I get off work is just ghastly to me. I know bike enthusiasts everywhere are closing the browser in disgust!!! Instead I just ride when I know that they’ll only be a one or two stop lock up process and make up for it by trying to go for a nice bike ride on the weekend. I had a lovely scenic hour and a half session on sunday morning. I think I’m gonna make sure to carve more time out for it because before we know it the snow we’ll be here and I won’t be able to ride anymore.

Toodloo to my buddy CC. She moves to Tahoe today. I am excited at the prospect of having another holiday spot to visit. Now if I could only figure out how to get on the European paid holiday schedule (4 weeks paid vacay!!?? Unheard of!) I would be fine.
