The first time I went to university, (π€£ giggling at “The first time”. Being 49 is a trip. There are so many versions of your life to look back on.) I went to the University of Minnesota. I lived in Minneapolis for 8 years and have such fond memories of my raving and early dj years there.
My friend Dave owned Bassment Records and I spent so many hours of my sophmore year of hanging out there. I bought my first jungle records there and then just never really left.
Dave also mixed dnb and put up with me nattering away endllessly about my fave tracks. It reached a point where I would skip class and spend the whole day in the shop. He would let me mix for hours on end since I didn’t have my own turntables yet, Eventually that turned into me working there and helping with the orders.
Today, I’m going to mix some vinyl at FeeLIT Records in San Diego. They do a vinyl-only recording at the store. It’s pretty cool. https://www.feelitrecords.com/
You can check out the vinyl mixes here: FeeLIT Records Vinyl Mixes
While picking out some records to bring for today, I got hit with a wave of nostalgia for my time at Bassment. That was such a fun, formative chapter in my little raver life. I got to hear all the latest tunes and chat to everyone who came through to get their records. I loved it.
I’ve just been listening to my old records all week. Man, there are some really great old tunes.
With all this Bassment talk, it feels fitting that today’s tunes be my first purchase there. π₯°
