Wild Out Wednesday

Well not really, I definitely wouldn’t classify myself as a person who “wilds out.” I’ve just always thought that phrase was funny. The hosts on 106th & Park always sound so amped when they talk about it “What up, what up what up, it’s WILD OUT WEDNESDAY!!!”

I will however be “wildin’ out” to Mutt today though. I feel like my whole day will be Mutt related. LOL. First, he’s playing Bassdrive from 2pm to 5pm cst for a special Greenroom session with Stunna, and Sinistarr so definitely tune in. Then he’s also playing at Seminar tonight.

Tunes:

Today’s Oldie:
J Majik & Danny JThe LizardInfrared Records 2000
This wasn’t one of my fave J Majik tracks but I do remember people going nuts on the dancefloor so I figured it would work for today.

Might as well keep up the Greenroom momentum and post an old Stunna & Pipeline sesh from 2007.

Enjoy.

Gimme a K, gimme an I…  2009 is well under way now and I’m back to being my usual boring self.  I think I might need my own personal pep squad to bring some excitement back.

Tunes:

I guess this track is super old, but I only recently started hearing it, so it’s new to me and I like it.

I went through a Gyration phase for a hot second.  This was definitely one of the ones I liked the best.

Party!

Ugh. I’ve become one of those people that eagerly awaits friday’s arrival. My jobs usually have been restaurants or retail and you actually dread friday’s cuz that means the weekend’s here and we’re going to be horribly busy. Knowing I only have 4 weeks left at adidas makes me excited for fridays cuz pretty soon I’ll have 2 days of freedom. Holla!

I’m actually in a pretty good mood. I’m excited for Jess’s party tonight and for my friends from Minneapolis to get here. The party is gonna be really fun. How can it not be? It’s an event involving my closest friends. It’s kinda hard not to have fun when you’re surrounded by people you’re fond of.

I listened to Spinn’s show again this a.m. I really like his show a lot. I feel like it’s a very friendly dnb environment. It’s nice to know that you can just tune in and hear a friendly voice play music that you like and inform you about the latest dnb artists and what not. I keep gushing about him so much cuz I’m a new listener. I was not really around to listen to Bassdrive shows before cuz I was working retail and the only ones I usually did take time to tune in to were Stunna’s and Pipeline’s cuz they are people I hang it with all the time so I would just tune in automatically. Anyways Spinn is a welcomed addition to my friday schedule.

Donnie (Future Prophet) kindly informed me about the Zyon Base tracks that he played on wednesday which I greatly appreciate and can now stop griping about not finding the ones I like. Tombstone Blues is great. Low bassline with a silky vocal. Nice tune. It’s in his player.

Dan Marshall Same ‘Ol. Great tune. I have this raggedy post it note that’s sticking out of my notebook telling me to write about this track. That was last month. I definitely am not the most organized person. It’s a real great tune. I dont’ have a sample of it, I don’t even have a mix with it on there so I just listen to the Bassdrive hoping someone will play it. What a saddo I am. Hee hee. Spinn actually played it this morning so I was happy. You can listen to the archive of his show here.

Stunna & ContourConfusion. Love it! I feel like I’ve become Blaine Edwards and

Antoine Merriweather from In Living Colour!!! Love it! Hate it! LOL. I’m still really into Neverlove. They make a good team… Stunna and Contour I mean. 😉

Stunna played a pretty cool Blake Reary remix yesterday by Advisory (there’s a sample in the player). Atmospheric and pretty indeed.

Man, do I want to leave. Maybe if I actually do some work time will fly by faster.

Have a good weekend

Well the three day weekend starts for me as soon as I get out from behind this desk. I’m pretty swamped so I kinda don’t really have time to write. Pipeline played this Lynx tune Distance Zero yesterday that I’m loving and I also heard this Kjell tune on Will Miles show this morning called Promise to Lose that was quite the banger. Oi! F Ur Bike

I have quite the affinity towards grime. There’s something about it that is so much like my secondary school days in London that I just love it. Me and Brandon were talking about More Fire Crew’s Oi! the other day and it totally made me think of the Sway and $tush video of F Ur X that I’d been meaning to post for a while. I just kinda spaced it but I was listening to the song this morning and decided it was a proper way to start my day. 🙂

Sway feat $tush – F Ur X

Mo Fire Crew – Oi!

I completely fucked my leg up on my bike yesterday. I have old school pedals and it was one of the things I need to change out but haven’t gotten around to it.  Yesterday was my warning cuz I scraped the fuck out of my calf.  It went pretty deep and all the way up my leg and there was blood everywhere. It hurt pretty bad but I figured it wasn’t that big of a deal and I could moan about it for a minute but when I woke up this morning my leg is really badly bruised and very swollen and I can barely walk on it. Lame.

Overfiend is in Chicago this week. He’s playing at Seminar tonight alongside my bff Pipeline, so if you’re around you should come hang out at Lava, should be good times. 🙂

Busy work day. Hopefully I can get into the Spirit of actually being productive… yeah yeah, pun intended, sometimes it’s necesary to be silly and unfunny, you can’t be perfect all the time. 😉

Pleasantville

I work six days a week, monday thru friday at my 9 to 5 and every saturday at adidas.   When sunday gets here I try my hardest to be the laziest person ever.  Most of the time I succeed quite beautifully.  Yesterday I was in rare form.  I’m pretty sure I laid in my bed watching tv online for about 5 hours.  That’s what happens when you find a whole series online and it’s actually good and you really can’t find anything better to do with your time. 😉

I’m actually having a pretty chill day today.  It’s a lot easier to get shit done when you’re in a good mood.

Here’s Some tracks I’m loving…

Tracktastic

I’m a little bit on the broke side these past couple of days so I’ve been trying not to keep up with too many tracks cuz I just get annoyed that I can’t buy them.

I have become completely obsessed with riding my bike though. The wind, the sun and the outdoors are seriously a great treat while riding around. 🙂

I was listening to the forthcoming tracks on Chemical and there was this DKay track on there. It was ok. It made me think how four years ago all I had to see was DKay’s name on a release and I would buy it. It’s just funny how one’s tastes change. There’s nothing wrong with DKay. I still like his stuff just fine. I think I’ve just reached a point where I expect more. It’s so exciting to listen to a new track and be completely wowed by how innovative it is and how people are taking production to new levels. With that said though, I really did like that DKay – Individual Soul. I would listen to the whole thing while driving to Madison to see my mum and just be completely engrossed in this beautiful jazzy dnb world. If you’ve never listened to it you totally should. It’s quite amazing.

I saw that Lenzman & Submorphics – Respiration/Way Back When promo on the new releases list. Isn’t Way Back When super old?? I feel like I heard that track ages ago. I think Lenzman and Submorphics is a really good combo. The record is great.

I can’t exactly remember who I was having the conversation with, I think it was Pipeline and Sable Gray, but you really can’t keep tracks under wraps for that long anymore. People get bored and don’t wanna buy them when it finally does come out. I feel like I would have totally bought that Lenzman & Submorphics record back when I first heard it, whenever it was, but it seems so old to me now that I wouldn’t even think about spending money on it. I remember hearing LK and not knowing the name of the track and being too far away from the decks to ask or trainspot and then the track didn’t come out until 2 years after that. I’m so glad those days are over.

Alix Perez & Lynx were on Kiss FM. They are definitely two of the dnb darlings right now. It’s nice to be able to hear all these mixes but I’m starting to get the One Nation tape series syndrome. You know what I mean? People mix out so much these days that I’m hearing the same sets with the same tracks over and over again. I find myself having to listen to old mixes to switch it up or just picking one out of the many mixes I’ve downloaded because they all have the same tracks. I’m not complaining really. I think I just am gonna have to try harder to find mixes by different people instead of downloading the usual suspects all the time.

Even though I just prattled on about hearing the same tracks all the time, I do actually think that I only know like 5 tracks on this tracklist so it should be a good listen. 🙂

Don’t Tell Kiki The Babysitter’s Dead

My brother always makes fun of me for my issues about being left out. I’m convinced it’s a drawback of being the middle child. I have no qualms admitting that I suffer from middle child syndrome. You’ve witnessed it many times on here already… “Why don’t I know who Paul SG is?” “Why don’t I own that Zero T and Icicle track?” “Why didn’t anyone tell me I had a high voice?” and the latest “Am I the only one that doesn’t really know anything about beatport?” I act like people purposely exclude me from stuff. 😉

I posted that top 10 of Stunna’s yesterday. I didn’t know you could get the tracks. I’ve actually never used Beatport. Pipeline was telling me how he bought a bunch of tracks off of there the other day. Is it mostly for electronic music? Is it like an itunes store? I feel like I always ask stupid questions so sometimes I just keep shit to myself and live in a bliss of ignorance but then when everyone starts talking about shit I don’t know, I’m all like “How come no one told me?”

I don’t know what I’d do with the mp3s anyways. I guess I could listen to the individual songs on my ipod. I don’t own serato so that’s a no go. I definitely wouldn’t burn them to mix on cdjs because I’m absolutely rubbish on those things. I think it is a combination of being too heavy handed and impatient and therefore not really being able to master them. I’m sure if I didn’t have the attention span of a 3 year old it’s something I could learn to do properly but since I don’t mix out regularly enough to warrant getting the hot new tunes on mp3 I think I’ll just stay in my bliss of ignorance that I talked about a couple of sentences ago.

* Does everyone speak in long run on sentences like I do?? *

Moving on, I can’t remember the name of it but there was this Specific tune that I was nutters about, something about “breaking my heart.” Stunna turned me on to it and I’m pretty sure I even myspaced Specific to tell him how much I loved it. I swear I really don’t think I’m that much of a nerd in real life, crazy, yes, but nerdy, not necessarily all the time. Unfortunately when it comes to dnb I start to do super geeky things. I can’t help it some tunes just make me too excited.

The #3 Vandal Records podcast is by Specific. I’m excited to listen to it. I didn’t listen to the last Vandal podcast but the two before that by Redeyes and Peyo were my favourites for a while. It’s become quite silly to talk about what are my favourites. Basically i like dnb. I have a lot of favourites. The only things I will really say I dislike are clownstep and really noisy angry white boy dnb.

I have a bunch of tracks that I keep wanting to write about but time keeps escaping me. When I get all caught up at work I’ll have to do a list of my top ten or something.

Choon

Went to the Teebee show on saturday after all. Who was I kidding. I didn’t really have anything else to do. He played that Chase & Status “Take Me Away” tune that I told you I liked the other day. Pipeline liked it too. A lot. 🙂  I’ve actually already listened to the Format mix I posted below. I quite enjoyed it. There’s some cuts on there from Zero T’s upcoming album. So far the few tunes I’ve heard have been awesome.

I have a bunch of weddings and shit coming up this year so I feel like I’ve had to penny pinch which is kinda sad cuz there’s actually loads of records I want.

The day has actually passed me by. I’ve been semi busy at work. I actually had a lot of stuff I wanted to post about but that’ll have to wait til tomorrow. In the meantime check out the Format mix and peep Stunna’s top 10 which I’m sure I’ll hear him play and own next year sometime. 😉

Nod Your Head

There was definitely a lot of head nodding going on last night.  I really had a good time at Seminar.  Great music.  Pipeline and Stunna were killing it.  I definitely admit that I’m quite spoiled when it comes to dnb.  My really good friends are part of the dnb game so I pretty much get to hear exactly what I want when they are around.  Stunna played this Lenzman banger that I still can’t get out of my head.  Sorry I forgot the name.  (I’m absolutely horrible with track names)  I’ll definitely be waiting for that one.

I’m a little bit out of it this morning.  I’m really tired.  I barely slept.  I did manage to find time to spend too much money buying records this morning though.  Always gotta make time for that right? One of the treats I picked up was a copy of this Mutt record that I’ve wanted that’s finally back in stock – Nice As Me/Strangers.  I was pretty excited about that.

I’m yawning alot which obviously means that my brain is need of a LOT of oxygen.  I’m not going to waste time babbling about nonsense.  I just found this Flight w/ Deeizm mix which I hope will keep me awake.
