Dirty Diana is one of my favourite Michael Jackson tunes.  Lovesit.  I mean when we’re talking Michael Jackson there are loads of tunes but I love me some Dirty Diana.  I remember making up some weirdo gymnastics routine for it when I was a kid cuz I hated using the music that was usually supplied for my floor routines, so I would just create routines out of the instrumentals of tunes I liked.  I guarantee you the only people that were entertained by me rolling around on the floor and doing leap jumps to Dirty Diana were my parents.

Why are we talking about Michael?  This super cute store, Kokorokoko, just opened up like 4 doors down from my place (I live on a busy main street) and I got this red leather jacket that reminds me of Michael Jackson in Beat It.  I said reminds me, so don’t go thinking I’m gonna be rocking some white glove a la some MJ fan circa 1983.  Anyways it’s just too cute so I felt compelled to write about it. 😉

Still sick.  Boo.  My best friend is coming this weekend so this ish needs to be gone asap.

I’m tired as fuck. I had a really fun weekend but I’m totally paying the price now. Too much liquor and too much party but tons and tons of fun. I tried to recuperate all day sunday but it obviously didn’t work cuz I still feel groggy and crappy today.

These girls tried to battle me and Shannon at Rodan. Hmmm. You heard correctly. It was all really strange and hilarious. You can guarantee that the looks on our faces were priceless as we were trying to figure out what the hell was going on while they did all these really horrid dance moves in front of us. Everytime I think of the word “battle” it reminds me of that Wookie track. Dope. I love the Remix by MJ Cole too.

No more wildin out… EVER. Remember that night that I stayed out til 5:30 a.m.? Well I got a fucking red light violation. Lame. I wish that shit didn’t take so long to process. My car is registered in my mum’s name and she kindly called to inform me of my $100 ticket that she received in the post yesterday. I guess that’s what happens when you’re rushing home cuz you have be at work in a couple of hours. Boo squared.

Last night was fun. I actually enjoyed Amit’s set. I got the news yesterday that Seminar is finishing. No more wednesday dnb night. I’m really bummed out about it. It’s been awesome to have, a local bar that I love, all my friends go to, and is a 5 minute walk from my house, be host to my weekly dnb outing. I’m just too fucking old to be traipsing around the city to go to dnb nights. I like to support my friends so I know I’ll still go out to dnb nights at other places but I can guarantee you it won’t be every week if it’s not within walking distance from my house. Sad. Sad that I’m a boring old cow and sad that my dnb weekly outings are finito.

I think it would be really funny if I always used the terms that I write in my everyday speech. Most of them are made up mish mashes of terms I think are funny. Other times I just know they sound funny when I say them so I purposely use them. If you know me and you ever hear me use the term Fresh to Def please slap me.

I’m having a pretty good morning. I love those days where you wake up refreshed and ready to attack whatever’s coming at ya. Amit tonight at Seminar. Stop at Lava if you’re in the Chi. I don’t know how I feel about Amit these days. I actually don’t even know any of his new stuff. I just like going out to hear dnb so I’m sure it’ll be a fun night nonetheless.

4 Turntables & A Microphone

My friends always used to make fun of me when I mixed out cuz I always looked so pissed while in the mix.  I’ve definitely gotten better about the scowling.  Now since I don’t mix out that much, I savour the few times that I do and it’s straight up party time cuz I’m happy to see all my friends out.

I think when I used to mix out regularly I just got really involved in what I was doing so I didn’t really find it necessary to get involved with what the crowd was doing… Obviously, not the best tactic if you’re supposed to be playing for others so I guess that’s why I kinda stopped doing it on the regular.

I’m really not into people paying attention to me so I guess that’s why djing out wasn’t my most favourite thing back then, but I liked hearing my records on a loud sound system so I tolerated it.

This weekend I mixed a house set with Caleb and I had so much fun. We got some serious 4 turntable action going and I was super into it. Just 2 hours of old house music classics. It’s so engaging and you have to be constantly on the ball. I think if I had some kinda tagteam partner like that back in the day I would probably have been way more into mixing out.

I also made an old skool dnb mix and an old skool 2step/garage mix. My saturday consisted of about 6 hours of mixing which is seriously entertaining once you get into that zone. We’ll see if I actually let anyone listen to those mixes. I’m notorious for making mixes and then playing them for an audience of one… me. LOL.

I also recorded some soundbytes for Caleb’s mixtape. Boo. I really hate doing that shit. To make matters worse he cut my voice with my most hated vocal of that stupid girl saying something about being absolutely on whoever’s jock or whatever. I know you know it. Anyways, why anyone would want to hear my annoying voice is beyond me but I figured since I monopolized his studio for 6 hours it’s the least I can do and the mixtape is a hip hop one so I’m pretty sure I’ll never hear it and so I’m content to pretend that it never happened. LOL.

It’s Dr. Dre’s bday today. So what you say? LOL. My best friend and his friends used to do this graffiti magazine called Life Sucks Die. They would frequently have random articles, crossword puzzles etc. that discussed the awesomeness that is Dr. Dre. It was pretty funny. Seven years ago they decide they would have a party on his bday. The idea itself is pretty dope. They had The Chronic cut outs that you could put your face in and take pics, they had 40s for everyone to drink  and also did a $20 sack pyramid game show. The party became such a hit that they started doing it every year. Last year Dre actually knew about the party cuz Arabian Prince played the 2008 installment and told him about it. Now Burlesque Design decided to branch out and have Dre Day parties all over. This year they are doing one in Chicago too. I think that if you aren’t familiar with these Minneapolis dudes the idea itself seems pretty nutso but it’s awesome. I don’t mean to be a skeptic but I don’t know if the Chicago one can live up to the caliber that is the Minneapolis legacy. I’m going anyways just for the hell of it. Should be fun. Happy Bday Dr. Dre. 🙂
