Nostalgic Kiki

I’m totally one of those people that’s stuck in the past when it comes to DnB.  I do listen to new stuff.  I like it just fine, and I do buy the odd track every now and again.  But, I still get so much satisfaction from my old stuff.  Those tunes makes me so happy.  I can mix them for days.

I remember when I was younger, I felt like I had to have the new stuff straightaway.  I’m sure that had a lot to do with not wanting to mix old records out all the time.  There’s only so many times people wanna hear you play an “old skool” set.  😜  Now, I’m 40, I don’t mix out anymore and I am more than content to just have my 20 year old collection.  There are so many awesome records in it, that bring back so many amazing memories.

DnB is the only thing that will convince me to run on the treadmill.  Got a little Soul:R mix in the rotation at the mo.

M.I.S.T – Outerspace – Soul:R (2003)

I love bringing this record into the mix.  That slow creep tho… 😊

Snow Shmow

You would think I didn’t spend the past 20+ years living in the Midwest, but dang, I’m so over this snow.  Can it just be done already?  After almost 4 years abroad, I think I just forgot how long it lasts. 😒

If you need me, I’ll be sulking to this beautiful Satl tune.

Here’s the Drake and Jhené Aiko tune the sample came from. 😍

#TBT

My friend Brandon just reminded me of this record.  It’s amazing that I managed to forget about it, considering the amount of times I played it in my set that year.  I didn’t have a lot of records around that time, and I was also full on obsessed with Monica, so in my eyes it was win/win.  I don’t know how much of a win it was for the people who had to hear me playing the same 20 or so records over and over though.  😁  Thanks for the dope memory Brandon!

Mixtape Kiki

tape

I used to have so many rave mixtapes.  I gave most of them to my friend to add to his amazing Rave Archive website, but I still have about 20 of my own personal mixes that I have been meaning to convert to mp3, and just never got around to it.

I came across them again when I was cleaning out some boxes, and have been having a field day just listening to them while cleaning, lesson planning, avoiding going outside in 5° weather, etc. So many good memories and so many good tracks.

I expected the sound quality to be super shitty but I guess they kept well and they still sound surprisingly decent.  I also expected the mixing from Code Blue circa late 90’s to be cringe-worthy, but they weren’t half bad…  even if I do say so myself.  😝

Here are some oldies that I heard that I’m definitely digging out when I go have a mix session after I finish writing this post.  😻

Technical Kiki

It’s Thanksgiving tomorrow.  I’m gonna eat everything.

I was cleaning out a box and found some of my old mixtapes — stress on the tapes part.

My friend owned a record store in Minneapolis back in the late 90s, early ’00s.  I didn’t have my own turntables yet, so he would let me come and hang out and mix records for hours upon end at the store.  I would record all my mix sessions and then go home and listen to the tapes all over again.  Acting like I hadn’t just spent 6 hours recording them.  😁

This one tape I’m listening to right now is all Technical Itch.  I was so Tech Itch crazy back then.  😍

Drake & Kiki

I thought I’d gotten Drake out of my system for the remainder of 2016.

No dice I guess, cuz I can’t get enough of this Bass Controlla.

It gets so dark so early, and I wish it was sunny and warm again, so I guess I’ll recreate this past summer and let Drake hijack my music player once more.

Sunny Days Kiki

I’m missing the Mexico sun.

In my old age, I’m totes ready for those days where I retreat to my “winter home” in some sunny paradise.

I don’t mind autumn, it’s actually my favourite season, but sometimes the grey skies creep up on you and will def have you in your feelings a little bit.

Instead of being a mopey cow for no sensible reason, I’m mixing old tunes and feeling quite content.  What else is new?  I don’t own any new records.  LOL.

I do actually listen to new stuff every once in a while.  I just happen to really, really, really enjoy my old records. 😍😍😍

This tune always makes me think of Dj Kali.  I loved our Code Blue & Kali tagteam duo liquid funk era.
