2026 & Kiki

Happy New Year! 🍾🍾🍾

The holiday season was good to me.
– Stuffed my face over Thanksgiving and spent some quality time with my family,
– Jaunted over to Sierra Leone with my mum for Christmas.
– Visited my dad (him being buried in Sierra Leone is bittersweet, as I don’t get to visit as often as I’d like.)
– Finished up the year in Wisconsin with my sister and brother-in-law.

January is trudging along. I’m just here listening to Emma G. This month’s episode has her all vinyl demo mix from 2006 and it’s so good! So many amazing tracks came out during that era.

I used to love it when it would snow on your WordPress blog. What happened to that? Is it only with certain themes. 🤔

Headed to Wisconsin on Thursday for Christmas. Gonna hang out with my gorgeous mum and get my dose of cold weather, winter coats and scarves. Very much looking forward to it. 🥰

Monty’s Hit the Lights album came out and I’m happy to see all the tracks that I’ve been hearing on mixes and couldn’t ID.

Listening to Lenzman and Submorphics as I get some admin tasks for work out of the way, so I can spend this dreary rainy LA day lying in bed watching copious amounts of telly.

Summer Session Kiki

Been in Chicago and Wisconsin for the last 3 weeks. It was a really great trip. Got to spend some quality time with my besties and my family and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Had a fab 4th and I’m back in LA now. Summer session begins today. No rest for the wicked and all that. 😉

Listening to some tunes and lesson planning. It’s my first time hearing this Cyantific tune. Def a vibe. 😍

Surprise surprise. I’m leaving tomorrow at crack ass o’clock and haven’t packed a lick of anything. I have to teach my evening classes in 30 minutes, but fortunately it’s quiz day so I guess I’ll just pack while they are doing that? My procrastination is so expected at this point. Par for the course, innit?

Excited to see my Chicago lovelies and then on to hang with the fam after that.

I’m finishing up my quizzes and listening to some Nu:Tone.

Winter Kiki

I really enjoy living in LA, but as a person who grew up in areas with cold winters and snow, I don’t enjoy 70 degree Christmases. I love bundling up, fires, hot chocolate, trees lightly dusted with white powder, hot apple cider… the whole gamut! For this reason, I love coming back to my mum’s during that time. I get my snow fix in and then head back to sunny LA. 😊

You would think I didn’t spend the past 20+ years living in the Midwest, but dang, I’m so over this snow.  Can it just be done already?  After almost 4 years abroad, I think I just forgot how long it lasts. 😒

So I’m back in Wisco.

For the longest time I really disliked Madison.  Growing up in  London made it really hard to embrace this 250,000+ city.  I still find it too small but at the same time I’ve learned to appreciate it.  It’s so beautiful and it’s not everyday you get to be surrounded by lakes and trees.  After being in Indonesia I adopted this new found love for the outdoors and Wisconsin offers all those pleasures.

I remember when I first moved here from Chicago I kept mistaking the bunny rabbits that you see constantly for rats.  LOL.  They are everywhere and I wasn’t used to seeing so many of them at night.  Just the other day there was a gigantic turkey just kicking it on our street.  It’s even more beautiful in the summer.  I’m going to enjoy my 8 weeks home. :

I’m particularly enjoying running outdoors with my ipod blasting and listening to these gems. 😉
