Junglist Kiki

This is really good.  Nice one S.P.Y.!  I  get worried when I see remixes of such epic classics. The Dj Zinc one is so iconic, I wouldn’t want anyone spoiling it.  I still can’t believe that track came out in 1996.  I’m such an old raver.  LOL.  But man S.P.Y.  killed this remix.  Love it.  😍😍😍

Pencil Me In Kiki

Many people have told me that the key to grad school is really just time management.  I would have to agree.  I’m getting better at it.  When I do what I’m supposed to do in the allotted times I schedule myself for, it definitely makes my day a whole lot easier.

I know I posted this mix at the beginning of this month but if you haven’t listened to it you really should check it out.  I’ve been working out to it for the past couple of weeks.  Really good tracks and nice mix. Data – Jan 2011 Mix.

Girls Rock Kiki

I’m actually pretty excited today.  I’ll be teaching a workshop to some young girls at this camp.  The program is called Girls Rock! Chicago.  I think this is so cool.  I would have been so ecstatic if this was available when I was younger.  This is the first year that they are adding a Dj workshop to the music camp.  I’m extremely grateful that I get to be part of it.

I’ve been loving this tune for a minute.  I’m not as crazy about the dnb version but this version is definitely fire.  Nice club/party banger. ❤

Summer Kiki

Yay, summer has returned.  It’s absolutely gorgeous outside.  I already went for a nice bike ride.

Last night was really good.  I feel like I was fortunate enough to spend the whole of wednesday listening to really awesome dnb.  Will and Stunna on Bassdrive was a really great show and then at Lava everyone just had really good sets.  It’s days like those that I know why I love dnb so much.

Early A.M. Kiki

It’s  really early.  I’ve been an early riser for as long as I can remember but still it never stops being strange that I’m awake kicking it when everyone else is completely passed out.  My gym is open 24 hours so I think I’m gonna head over there once I finish this post.

I don’t really have anything exciting to talk about this week.  It’s a pretty slow week.  I’m definitely feeling the unemployment factor right now because I’ve been working with my friend for the past couple of weeks so my idle time has been pretty much non-existent.  This week he’s out of town though and I’ve had to keep myself busy.  There are activities to do but they are activities of my own creation, so that makes the “I really have nothing to do factor” quite high.

It’s NOT Your Birthday…

I moved to Chicago 6 years ago. I was 25 and ready to party. Compared to what my life was like back then, I’m prolly the most boring person ever now. I went to school from 8 to 4. Worked at this restaurant from 5 to 1230 or 1. Partied from 130 til 330. EVERY NIGHT. This is no joke. I barely sleep as it is now but back then I don’t know how I survived cuz I really never slept. This went on for like 3 years. I met Reisha and CC at that time and we partied non stop.

One year on Reisha’s bday we went to Sonotheque. She drank a gazillion drinks and passed out in the bar, like full on sleep on one of the couches style. They kicked her out and were like tell your friend she can’t sleep in here. LOL.

Mine and Reisha’s bdays are exactly two weeks apart. We went to Sonotheque on my bday too (this was when Sonotheque was the shit and I used to go there like every week) and the bouncer looked at Reisha and was like “Remember, it’s NOT your birthday, behave yourself.” It was hilarious.

The reason that I’m telling you this story is because yesterday you would have thought it was my birthday and not Bass By The Pound’s. LOL. I had so much fun. I didn’t even get out of control drunk or anything. I just had a really good time. Everyone was in a good mood. Submorphics had a really great set. Total Science killed it. I danced a bunch. Submorphic’s buddy Sinistarr came in to town for the show and hung out. Stunna joined in the festivities too. Juju fell asleep but then woke up and showed up at Lava and I was happy she came and kicked it. Really good turn out for BBP’s anniversary. It was just an all round good night. It’s nice to drink a bunch, hang out with your friends, listen to good music, have fun and not be hungover the next day. 😉

Love this one. The Marky & Bungle remix is great too but the original was really good to begin with. I’m a Zinc fan. He has good tracks. I don’t really like a lot of his newer stuff but I do own a lot of his records.

No tracklist. Just 3 hours of good tunes. He had a guest mix from Aaron Bond on there too which I was totally digging.

DnB & Kiki

It’s tuesday. I wish I had something exciting to report but I don’t. I guess since my weekend was busy enough I have to keep the rowdiness at a minimum for now.

Hot tunes:

Dan Marshall – Smoke & Mirrors Remember when I was on that whole Dan Marshall kick? I Still love him, I just haven’t been keeping up on his newer stuff that’s all. Loving this Smoke & Mirrors. Sorry no sample as it’s a dub but as always go check out his other tunes on his site. I believe there’s a Random Movement remix too. Dope.

KomaticHidden Light Love this one. We all know I’m a sucker for a pretty melody and pretty voice. I just recently started listening to Komatic’s show on Bassdrive and I must say I’m quite a fan.

As an obsessive dnb lover I’m surprised that I managed to even live my life without Bassdrive up til now. My number one problem with being a dnb fan living in America was I didn’t have enough contact with the music. I never became a dj because I like mixing. I like it enough, I’m just not that obsessed with the turntables. I became a dj because that was the only way for me to hear these tracks I was obsessed with out loud on a ridiculous sound system in the order that I wanted to hear them. Then the whole raver community thing happened and I was like wow this is cool, not only do i get to hear these tracks at a ridiculously loud decibel but I also get to meet others who love this music as much as I do and we can be corny and talk about how much we love tracks. LOL. Obviously this is no different from any other music scene but the drawback is electronic music isn’t on the same mainstream level that other genres are. I always dreamed of being able to listen to drum n bass whenever I felt like it. That’s why I became so adept at finding mixes online. I just wanted to make sure that whenever I wanted to listen to it I would have something new, new to me anyways, to listen to. I always loved going home to London because the second I would step into my dad’s house I would just turn on the radio and voila, tunes galore. I guess I’m lucky that I have an office job where I’m allowed to listen to music because Bassdrive has made me a pretty happy person. I tune in and I hear all the new jams and it’s awesome.

My, I’m awfully chatty today. 😉

Today’s Oldie: Dj Hype feat. Mc FatsPeace, Love & UnityTrue Playaz 1996 Doing these oldies every day brings back so many memories. It sounds so cheesy to say but from the second I heard dnb I felt like I’d found something that made sense to me and lets be honest, when you’re a teenager that’s a total blessing. From jump I’ve always been overly enthusiastic about dnb. I just love it. I was so excited about the True Playaz label. I was obsessed with Dj Hype and obsessed with the whole jump up era and had just discovered Dj Zinc and hearing that they were starting a new label sounded like the coolest thing ever at that time. The basslines killed me. I loved that these tracks had become songs I could identify. This was my first time hearing Mc Fats and I loved him. I guess you could say that this record was definitely a very significant one in my dnb life.

Granted I’m always excited to listen to Stunna mixes but this tracklist looks especially tasty.

Now I Understand….

Don’t act like this isn’t the cutest thing ever.  I have this weird obsession with koala bears.  I’m aware that they are not necessarily as cute and cuddly as they look but I still love them.  Is this cheesy?  Of course, but it’s still cute!Booty Bear

My myspace got hacked.  The myspace administrator kept telling me to change my password and i would change it and then it would say I didn’t do it.  I did it three times until it said error and I was like fuck this.  I deleted my account and what a fucking relief.  I have hated my page for a good 3 years.  I joined myspace quite a while ago so I had managed to accumulate a bunch of friends that were people I totally didn’t know and that shit was ultra wack.  Stupid invites to things I would never go to, people asking me to be friends that were like 16 years old etc.  Needless to say I was happy to start over.  I don’t really go on there anyway except to link dnb peeps but at least now I’ll know all the people that are my friends.  Anyways, the reason for this rant is to lead up to the fact that I only have one pic on there and I figured I could stand to put one more.  I was looking at my photobucket and found this gem….

Those were the days when I used to almost strangle Pipeline in every pic.  He looks so young!  That was his hipster do that he sported for a while, you can’t see the back but there most certainly was a tail back there.   Look how short Ju Ju’s hair is, now it’s totally rapunzel and shit.  I try not to look at this pic too much because I’m wearing this jacket that Stunna decided to just give away to someone and then couldn’t remember who after I had left it in his car.  (pause for a moment of silence in memory of my cheap ten dollar H&M prize)  Anyways I’m not putting it on my myspace but I figured it was a good enough pic to share. 🙂

I’m kinda digging this new Dj Zinc – Take Me With You.  I find that quite surprising because most of Zinc’s stuff lately….  well I don’t really have the words to describe how I feel about it.  We’ll just say I wasn’t necessarily feeling it, kinda like the other track on this record.  Not for me unfortunately.  As I’m writing about Dj Zinc, I have been thinking what my favourite track by him was.  That’s a tough one.  After a long think I’ve decided to go with Junglist Remix.  It’s just too classic for me not to pick it.  It represents such a great time in my jungle raving days and it’s still a great banger. *sigh*

Enough about Zinc.  I’m loving this Spectrasoul too.  Nice and moody. 🙂

Spectrasoul – Dark Hour

I feel a procrastination day coming on.  I’ve been at work since 7am (i’m a nerdy early riser and if I get restless at home I just come into work early) and I’ve really done fuck all. *shakes head*  Does procrastination ever stop??  I’ll be 32 this year and I don’t really see it subsiding any time soon. 😛
