Sardines

I have eaten a lot of sardines this year.  I live next to Kujukuri, which is famous for its sardines, and have eaten them fresh many times. おいしいですね。

The only reason I’m talking about sardines is because I’m currently listening to the Ed Rush & Optical track.

I only teach one lesson on Wednesdays, so I spend the rest of the day lesson planning.  Currently got a pretty awesome Ed Rush & Optical soundtrack going. ❤

Friction

It’s a holiday week here, but I didn’t go anywhere.  Is there such thing as being travelled out?  Totally don’t mean to sound bratty.  I’m very grateful for all the opportunities I’ve had and all the places I’ve been.  I’ve kinda just reached a point where I’m not trying to constantly gallivant everywhere and explore everything.  I have about 6 places on my bucket list that I definitely want to go to at some point, but right now, I’m kind of over the travelling for travelling sake.  I’m really excited about going home this summer to see my family and friends and for the rest of the time, I’m content just being the most boring person in Togane.

I did have a lovely day outing in Narita with the Johnson sisters on Saturday and I also went to Kate’s taiko performance.  So it’s not like I was a complete shut-in.

This school term is crackers.  There’s so much stuff to be done.  I’ve spent the other half of my holiday studying Japanese and getting ahead on our lesson planning.  I started out listening to a Logan Sama grime mix and didn’t really get much done, cuz I was too amped and taking notes on tracks I “must have.” LOL.  Enter Friction with this goodie goodie gumdrop. A little more lesson planning friendly for Kenyeh Sensei. 🙂

The Kanji Sessions

I’m sitting here practicing my Kanji.  Not like the whole Japanese language, more like just my bloody address.  I had to get Kate to come to the post office with me just so I could send some money home because the form requires that I write my address in Kanji in one of the spaces.  Kate is nice and does these things willingly, but I wouldn’t be surprised if one day she just wilded out and was like “No bitch!”  LOL.

Anyway, it’s actually coming along nicely.  There’s one character that looks extra janky but this S.P.Y. mix is giving me the motivation to keep doing it over and over, and over, and over again, until it looks like it’s supposed to.

Bee tee dubs, this mix is not new.  I know you’re not surprised.  The homie Seb has been telling me to listen to it for ages and I only got round to doing it now and it didn’t disappoint.  I had kinda gone off S.P.Y. for a bit but this mix is def. the S.P.Y. that I like. 🙂

DnB in Tokyo

I don’t feel like an old lady and I also don’t have issues with aging but it is quite interesting to think about my greatest dnb memories and realise that some of them happened like 20 odd years ago.

I do entertain the idea of venturing to Tokyo to go and bob my head to some of the dnb nights there, but as I was saying to my buddy Submorphics yesterday, I kinda have just reached the point where I would like to do that with just my friends.  I really don’t have the desire anymore to make new friends and go rave with them. I want to rave with the ones I already have.  Does that make me a horrible person?  LOL.

I’m sitting here grading really bad grammar and listening to a dope Eastside Sessions.  Japanese students aren’t really taught to express their feelings that much during classes, especially in their writing.  A lot of their curriculum caters to the tests they will need to take to get into university.  Kate and I try to incorporate this in our lessons a lot.  We have seen amazing results and I get so excited about it, but the beginning stages of laying the groundwork are brutal.

Bad grammar is funny for like the first hour and then afterwards you just want to throw the papers across the room.  I do know that it’s worth it though.  I’ve seen the results.  Our seniors wrote these amazing heartfelt essays about how they felt about embarking on the next chapter of their lives and I was so proud.  We asked them not to use their electronic dictionaries, and if you teach Japanese students, you know what a big deal this is.  Nobody did.  It was lovely.  I definitely got all emo as I was reading them.

So back to my current situation.  We had the first years write a 10 entry winter journal over winter break.  It’s one of the first assignments on this journey to free-writing and it’s ridden with horrible sentences filled with dictionary words that I know the kids don’t understand.  I’m spending most of my time trying to decipher what the hell they are talking about and it’s doing my head in.

Fortunately this Eastside Sessions is helping keep me sane.  I wish I knew that A-Sides was in Tokyo cuz that’s a friend I definitely would risk being tired the next day while teaching class and trek out to see.  🙂 I’m sure it was a good night too!  I didn’t make a big announcement when I moved to Japan so a lot of people think I’m still in Chicago.  Oh well, I told him he def has to let me know next time!  In the mean time I hope you enjoy this 2 hour sesh as much as I did.

Summer Jams

Summer is coming to an end.  School has started.  I’m sitting in the office grading summer vacation journals.  The weather is gorge today.  The window is open and there is a  lovely breeze coming through the window.  I’m listening to this sick Sinistarr remix of Random Movement’s “Dancing Feat” and reading the students’ hilarious journals.

Dude.  This track is everything today.  LOL.   I love when you are in the mood for a song and you just feel like pressing repeat a bunch of times cuz you are vibin’ so hard.

Hearts to the max.

Back In The World of Internets

I just got internet at my apartment this weekend.  I have it at school but dang, a month without internet in your home is rough yo.

Glee1

That was me every night.

Anyways, school officially starts tomorrow.  Gotta get introduced to the school as the new ALT and all that jazz.  In the meantime I’m not actually listening to anything new, just cleaning, making worksheets and listening to old faves.  It’s not hard to be productive when you’ve got Matrix playing in the background. 🙂

Japan

Oh hi!  🙂

I don’t have internet at my house yet.  For some reason it takes a month or so to get it set up.  Totally dying in the meantime.  LOL.  I soak up as much internet at school as I can.

So I’m here.  Japan life begins now.  Hoping to maybe make it to go see LTJ in Tokyo on the 22rd, we’ll see if that actually happens though since I’m still trying to get settled.

In the office right now sweating my ass off listening to Stunna.

Enjoy.

Student Life

I didn’t disappear.  I’ve been tucked away studying Japanese.  I’ve actually been quite disciplined.  I wake up, work out and then put myself in school for about 5 hours.  I was never a good student and still am not, but one thing I definitely know is the benefit of understanding the structure of the language of the students I’m teaching.  It helps immensely in the classroom because you can predict their errors, so I’m grinning and bearing it.

Summer is coming along nicely, it’s going by so fast though!  3 more weeks and then I’m off to Japan.  I’m beside myself trying to figure out how one packs to go away for one year.  I feel like I had become quite good at the short stays.  6 months is nothing.  You know you’ll be back soon enough so you just make sure you have enough clothes and little trinkets that will help you create a home away from home.  1 year though, you try and make sure you bring your home with you.  They recommend that I don’t bring too much stuff with me and buy stuff there and then get my family to ship stuff to me…   um that won’t work for me.  I’m not rich.  It’s so expensive to ship stuff to other countries.  I sent a small box of clothes to my cousin in London which had like 5 things I got for her kiddos at Target and it cost $50.  I’d rather pay for the extra suitcase now instead.

Anyways, enough whinging.  I was just letting you know what I’ve been up to.  I haven’t really been finding any mixes that I felt like I would die if I didn’t share with you, hence the lack of posts.  I’ve just been listening to old stuff.  I love the feeling of reintroducing old tunes to the rotation.  So many fond memories.

I’m going to Chicago today to visit the homies.  Came across this Soultec mix.  I haven’t listened to it yet but the tracklist looks decent and I usually like Soultec mixes so hopefully this adds some joy to my roadtrip. 🙂
