I’m feeling awfully scatterbrained this morning and for some reason the word scatterbrained brings Worzel Gummidge to mind… Don’t ask me why, it just does.
It’s the weekend. Another day of being busy at work. I’m listening to Spinn but too busy to actually talk in the chat room. Boo.
I can’t find my list of tracks that I was gonna talk about which is weird because it’s always next to my computer which also probably means I probably accidentally threw it away yesterday. See what I mean, scatterbrained.
Today’s Oldie: Dj Trace – Mutant Revisited – Emotif Records 1996 Woh! This track is so sick. I used to be part of a dj crew in Minneapolis called JVC. Minneapolis is mostly a techno and house city but for a little while in the late 90’s JVC helped bring jungle/drum n bass to the peeps. It was a pretty cool time. We had this ridiculously amazing rave called Murderapolis. The whole Formation crew was on tour and they headlined the rave. It was so fucking fun. Seriously. To have all those people show up for a dnb rave and have it be such a success was really great. Dj SS opened up his set with this track and seriously everyone just lost their minds. Big up Trace. Good times.
Hopefully my awesome oldie makes up for me not having any tracks to talk about.
I’ve been in a funk all week. Boo. No one’s happy all the time I guess so I’m trying not to let it stress me out.
Tunes:
Druid – The Blue Yonder Oh the wonders of the Bassdrive chat room. I heard this track on Bassdrive last month. I listen all day at work. I have a sheet of paper that I scrawl down tracks I like on the right side of my desk and if I want to write about them I stick a post it note on the monitor. I couldn’t find Druid’s myspace page so I’ve basically kept scratching out this track and throwing away post it notes for the past month. LOL. I saw a Druid in the chatroom and lo and behold it was in fact the one and only and now I can share the track with you. I just like that it has a symphonious ring to it. I’m not trying to be pretentious with that word, it was the only one that came to mind. I actually had to look it up on dictionary.com to make sure it wasn’t a synonym I had made up. I just imagine the London Symphony Orchestra playing this tune and everyone just nodding their heads. The track is in the player.
Poise&Hybrid J – Captured Moment (track is in both of their players) I’m not actually familiar with these two producers but I’m definitely digging the track.
Calibre – Don’t Mind EPI like this EP but I can’t tell if it’s cuz I’m kinda emo this week and therefore am digging the hauntingly melancholy eerie sound to the tracks. It’s Calibre so the production is always good, I just don’t know if I would actually play them out.
Today’s Oldie: Ellis Dee – Lockdown – Collusion Records 1995 Man, I don’t know what to say about this record. I loved it! It came out during this time period where I just wanted to hear random rap samples and rolling basslines. Do it well enough and I thought you were God. I would just stand in front of the speaker at raves and dance to this track like a maniac. This for sure was a party tune.
It’s wednesday. My mum is coming this weekend. There’s kind of a lotta things going on around me that are pretty major. We’ll see how they pan out.
Love these tunes:
Ed Oberon – Kid Rio This track is out of control. I love it. I heard it in the mix on Tyler’s show and it was fire. Check it out, it’s in the player.
Kjell – Healing ProcessLovin this one. Really great bassline. I feel like Kjell’s tracks have a distinct style, not quite sure how to describe it but whatever it is I like it.
Tyler Straub – Waiting For You I had actually meant to write about this track when I heard it on Bassdrive about a month ago but I really wanted to wait til I had a sample to share with you. It has this really serene melodic vibe that is just awesome. Not only do I have a sample but it’s actually available as a free download from the Santorin site. Now that is pretty cool. 🙂
Today’s Oldie – Roni Size – Watching Windows (Ed Rush & Optical Remix) – Talking Loud 1998 All my oldie favourites seem to be by the same artists. LOL. Seriously though, I do remember from about ’95 to about ’00 I could always rely on the same labels and the same artists for my tracks. They were the ones doing the best stuff and others couldn’t even really come close. This remix is ridiculously wonderful. I love the idea of a remix. I’m always curious to see what someone else would do with a track. The Ed Rush and Optical spin is just lovely. Classic track.
Got a lot of stuff to do at work today so I’m getting an early start to my entry.
I’ve been feeling a bit blah lately. I need to get my ass in gear and be productive. Instead I find myself being quite lazy which is so not cool. Bah. Sometimes you just go through slumps so I’ll just chalk it up to that and hope I snap out of it soon.
Metrik – Zero Gravity It’s a little rowdy but sometimes I get in the mood for that. Rowdy by my standards anyways. LOL.
Today’s Oldie: Peshay – Miles From Home – Mo Wax 1998 Totally missed out on this record. Boo. I remember not really being that into Peshay stuff at the time and when this track came out I didn’t even bother to listen to it. Then one of the boys in my dj crew played it out at one of his gigs and I wanted it so bad but when I went to get it there were no more. Love it. I’m sure if I tried hard enough I could get a bunch of the tracks that i missed out on but unfortunately since my record addiction is a hobby I’ll have to wait til i win the lottery to devote funds to getting them.
I’ve been talking a lot about the new shows I’ve been listening to on Bassdrive. Komatic’s is one of them that I am newly excited about. Here’s his October studio mix. You can check him out for yourself.
D Kay – How Much Does It Take? (brigand)
Logistics – Cosmonaut (hospital)
Komatic – Distance Resolved (dub)
Spectrasoul – Penninsula (shogun)
Nu Tone – Balaclava (hospital)
Random Movement – Lessons & Aftermath (cia deep kutz)
Mr DIstance – Let It Rain (dub)
Brother – Make A Life (influence)
The Funktion – Passing Through (dub)
Ill Logic & Raf – Complex Identities (bingo)
Komatic – Human Kinetic (dub)

Komatic – Night Drive (dub)
D Kay – On The Way Shapeshifter – One (brand new x)
Had a pretty nice weekend. Friday I bar hopped like a mad woman which is so unlike me these days but it was really fun. I think I need to leave my house more. It’s been almost 2 months since I stopped working weekends and I’m still way too into lying around my house watching tv. GET OFF THE COUCH KIKI!
I noticed that it got really dark super early yesterday. Daylight savings end is still two weeks away but the darkness is just creeping upon us. Boo.
I don’t really have anything exciting planned for this week. We’ll see what happens as the days go on.
Heard this one the other day and was quite digging it:
Today’s Oldie: Dom & Roland – Homicide – Moving Shadow 1999 For a while I was really just into the sing along aspect of dnb. I wanted just to dance to it and know the words if they were any. I stayed away from the organic sounding tracks cuz I really didn’t understand the production aspect. Once I really started to take the tracks apart I of course learned to love way more producers. Dom & Roland was one of them. His back catalogue is so ridiculously awesome. Homicide is one of my favourites. Unfortunately my record is really badly scratched and skips so I can only play like 2 minutes of it. Boo.
Toodles
I like posting the Hospital Records podcast because it’s short and sweet and good and a nice way to start your week.
I don’t really feel like I did anything productive all week. Whateves, I will get myself back on track this weekend hopefully. First and foremost, laundry. I have no clothes to wear.
Last night Daniela took me out for a nice fancy pants meal. I really need to do that with my friends more often. It was just nice to catch up and eat some good food.
I don’t have any outrageous plans for the weekend. LTJ is tonight. I’m not going though, I’m just not in the mood for Smart Bar and I also don’t want to pay $15. Should be a good show. He doesn’t disappoint.
I’ve started listening to a bunch of new shows on Bassdrive. I usually just tune in to my regulars (listening to Spinn right now) but I just discovered Notion’s show and am loving it. God bless you Bassdrive. 😉
Today’s Oldie: Krome & Time – Ganja Man(Dj Hype Remix) – Tearin Vinyl 1995 I know I’m picking another Dj Hype track but this one is just a great great remix. Classic. I loved the whole ragga jungle era.
Man I need to get out of this lazy mode I’m in. Boo.
Daniela is taking me out for a bday dinner today night since she couldn’t make it out to the party last week. I’m always excited about hanging out with Daniela and a nice meal is a bonus too.
Hot tracks:
Kjell – The Dynamic Heard this on Methodus’s show last week. The tune is just fire. Watch out for it. I don’t have a sample but definitely check out the other stuff in his player.
Command Strange – Time I like a lot of Command Strange’s tracks. He just keeps pumping them out. Big up Kazakhstan! Again no sample but I really do recommend checking out the other tracks in his player.
Seeing as I forgot to post an oldie yesterday, I will be delighting you with not one, but two blasts from the past today! I know you can barely handle the excitement.
Oldie #1: Alex Reece feat. Deborah Anderson – Feel The Sunshine – Blunted Vinyl 1995 Jazz step, what what!! I can guarantee you that I had many a makeout session to this track. Deborah Anderson’s voice is so sultry. Alex Reece tracks are sick.
This video is awesome. It could just as well be Diddy up there instead of Skibba. LOL. All dnb party jams should have videos in my opinion. To me this track is a total banger and it’s a bonus that it’s really fun to mix too.
There’s a ton of good downloads around at the moment. I can’t believe I’m actually having problems deciding what to post. I guess Seba wins. Seba is dope so he’ll always win.
01. seba & paradox feat robert manos – stone cold – paradox music
02. seba – special ops – combination records
03. commix – painted smile – ?
04. seba & krazy – inkasso – secret operations

07. seba & paradox – as if – secret operations dub
08. alix perez – crooklyn – soul:r
I have numerous things to do but I’m just not doing any of them. I’m defiant as fuck… It’s nice to pretend your a bad ass for a minute. I of course will eventually do the things I’m supposed to do but for now I will procrastinate away.
It’s probably the weather that’s making me feel so blah.
Whatever, I’m in a weird mood. I’ve been tuned into Bassdrive since like 8am so I definitely have gone a little drum n bass crazy. Overfiend’s show has been awesome. You should tune in if you’re around.
I don’t feel like writing today. Boo. Yeh I’m lame but I’m sure you can do without my endless chatter for one day.
I have one piece of exciting news… Not only is BBS Bookings celebrating 1 year of their podcast but Edward Oberon did the mix. Woot woot.
It’s tuesday. I wish I had something exciting to report but I don’t. I guess since my weekend was busy enough I have to keep the rowdiness at a minimum for now.
Hot tunes:
Dan Marshall – Smoke & Mirrors Remember when I was on that whole Dan Marshall kick? I Still love him, I just haven’t been keeping up on his newer stuff that’s all. Loving this Smoke & Mirrors. Sorry no sample as it’s a dub but as always go check out his other tunes on his site. I believe there’s a Random Movement remix too. Dope.
Komatic – Hidden Light Love this one. We all know I’m a sucker for a pretty melody and pretty voice. I just recently started listening to Komatic’s show on Bassdrive and I must say I’m quite a fan.
As an obsessive dnb lover I’m surprised that I managed to even live my life without Bassdrive up til now. My number one problem with being a dnb fan living in America was I didn’t have enough contact with the music. I never became a dj because I like mixing. I like it enough, I’m just not that obsessed with the turntables. I became a dj because that was the only way for me to hear these tracks I was obsessed with out loud on a ridiculous sound system in the order that I wanted to hear them. Then the whole raver community thing happened and I was like wow this is cool, not only do i get to hear these tracks at a ridiculously loud decibel but I also get to meet others who love this music as much as I do and we can be corny and talk about how much we love tracks. LOL. Obviously this is no different from any other music scene but the drawback is electronic music isn’t on the same mainstream level that other genres are. I always dreamed of being able to listen to drum n bass whenever I felt like it. That’s why I became so adept at finding mixes online. I just wanted to make sure that whenever I wanted to listen to it I would have something new, new to me anyways, to listen to. I always loved going home to London because the second I would step into my dad’s house I would just turn on the radio and voila, tunes galore. I guess I’m lucky that I have an office job where I’m allowed to listen to music because Bassdrive has made me a pretty happy person. I tune in and I hear all the new jams and it’s awesome.
My, I’m awfully chatty today. 😉
Today’s Oldie: Dj Hype feat. Mc Fats – Peace, Love & Unity – True Playaz 1996 Doing these oldies every day brings back so many memories. It sounds so cheesy to say but from the second I heard dnb I felt like I’d found something that made sense to me and lets be honest, when you’re a teenager that’s a total blessing. From jump I’ve always been overly enthusiastic about dnb. I just love it. I was so excited about the True Playaz label. I was obsessed with Dj Hype and obsessed with the whole jump up era and had just discovered Dj Zinc and hearing that they were starting a new label sounded like the coolest thing ever at that time. The basslines killed me. I loved that these tracks had become songs I could identify. This was my first time hearing Mc Fats and I loved him. I guess you could say that this record was definitely a very significant one in my dnb life.
Granted I’m always excited to listen to Stunna mixes but this tracklist looks especially tasty.
I decided that I complained about my stupid eye so much you at least deserve a pic. I figured out that if I smile you can’t really see it so I’m just gonna cheese constantly until it goes away.
My bday party was so fun! I love it when you have something in mind and it turns out exactly how you want it to be. Here’s some pics.
I have a ton of mixes in my posession at the moment and will have loads of new tracks to chat about… but not today. I spent the whole weekend recuperating from the copious amounts of alcohol I consumed so I didn’t get much listening done.
Did just hear this one on Komatic’s show which I happening to be listening to right now. Tune in if you’re so inclined.
Today’s Oldie: Technical Itch – Reborn – Moving Shadow 1999 I went through this really weird phase where I wanted all my tracks that I played to have this weird electro computer grimey bass sound. Tech Itch satisfied that need. This tracks is awesome.
How exciting is this! I’m glad that all these people are starting podcasts.
O.A.B. you ask? Colloquial term that translates as Old Ass Bitch. 🙂
I’m excited for my party today. I can think of nothing more fun than hanging out at my house and spending time with my friends. That’s the ultimate bday for me. Also Ju Ju is making me cupcakes… What else do you need on your bday besides cupcakes? Exactly.
On a sadder note, I’ve got really bad allergies. I’m not quite sure what I could possibly be allergic to in October as I’m a new allergy haver (I’m aware that sentence is gramatically incorrect but just don’t care) and don’t really know what I’m allergic to but it’s not that severe and I took some medicine so I’m fine.
What’s not fine is my black eye. Ok fine it’s not a black eye but there is a black and blue bruise under my eye by my cheek bone that doesn’t really look like a black eye, more like a huge dark circle which in turn makes me look like I’m super tired. LOL. We’ll see how this ends up looking in pics. 😉
Some new ish I heard that I’m digging. New to me anyways:
Today’s Oldie: SKC & Bratwa – Prophecy – Soul:R Recordings 2004 This record is fresh. I remember 2004 quite well cuz there was this ridiculous stint where every Soul:R record was fire. This is just a good track. I really like SKC he has a bunch of awesome tracks. I can’t really say I know that much about Bratwa though and boo to him not having a myspace page I can find.
