Been listening to some good hip hop mixes lately a la Dj Scend.  Check them out if you are so inclined.

I turned in my final paper for one of my classes on tuesday and I just have a final in my other class next week and my first semester of grad school will officially be over.  Holla. 🙂

I’m getting excited to mix at the Klute show next week.  I totally need a good dnb show to blow off the overworked semester steam.

Had a lovely time at home with my mum and Nima.  I think it’s funny that every time I go home my mum has me do some chore.  I don’t really complain cuz she lives in that huge house by herself and can’t do everything.  The humour is just in the fact that I live a regular adult life when I’m not by my mum and then the second I get home it’s… “Can you help me rake the leaves today?”  LOL

My car stereo is broken.  This is not ok.  I hate the radio.  All the radio stations are rubbish.  I need to find someone to fix it for me.

Before I post my regular dnb stuff, I just want to give Eyedea a shout out.  I lived in Minneapolis for 8 years.  I was very much a part of the music scene there.  At that time that I was there everyone was friends with everyone and collaborated to throw events and what not.  I participated in and frequented many Rhymesayers events.  I wasn’t really good friends with him or anything like that but we had many encounters and he was a really lovely person.  He was extremely talented and will definitely be missed.

I have 2 distinct group of friends.  My drum n bass posse and then my non-electronic music peeps which mostly consists of hip hop/rap folks.  It’s nice having 2 different types of events to go to all the time.

Last night I went to a Rude 1 show at Lava.  They are always fun.  People always come out and they have a good vibe.  I don’t really listen to rap/hip hop.  I listen to so much dnb that I don’t really have time to and I definitely don’t listen to mainstream stuff cuz I don’t listen to the radio so I’m usually out of the loop.  I like going to these shows cuz they play all the good ish that I know nothing about.  Good times last night.

It’s Dr. Dre’s bday today. So what you say? LOL. My best friend and his friends used to do this graffiti magazine called Life Sucks Die. They would frequently have random articles, crossword puzzles etc. that discussed the awesomeness that is Dr. Dre. It was pretty funny. Seven years ago they decide they would have a party on his bday. The idea itself is pretty dope. They had The Chronic cut outs that you could put your face in and take pics, they had 40s for everyone to drink  and also did a $20 sack pyramid game show. The party became such a hit that they started doing it every year. Last year Dre actually knew about the party cuz Arabian Prince played the 2008 installment and told him about it. Now Burlesque Design decided to branch out and have Dre Day parties all over. This year they are doing one in Chicago too. I think that if you aren’t familiar with these Minneapolis dudes the idea itself seems pretty nutso but it’s awesome. I don’t mean to be a skeptic but I don’t know if the Chicago one can live up to the caliber that is the Minneapolis legacy. I’m going anyways just for the hell of it. Should be fun. Happy Bday Dr. Dre. 🙂
