My current life back in the US seems to entail me doing numerous things I don’t feel like doing. Unpacking my stuff from Japan… nope.  Going to the DMV… nope.  Going through my entire life’s belongings that I moved from Chicago to my Mum’s house, before I left to go to Indonesia 3 years ago… nope.  Mowing the lawn… nope.  

You get the gist.  

I did mow the lawn though, and Hybrid Minds made me hate the whole grass clippings process a little less. 💕💕💕

8 days left.

8 days of doing nothing but cleaning. Straight up janitor Kiki here.  

Cancelling everything, going to city hall to say I’m no longer going to be a resident of Togane, blah blah, blah, blah.  Thank god for Mika, my ALT supervisor.  So much paperwork, so much Japanese.  

One thing that has been very interesting about living in Japan is the rule oriented lifestyle. That was a strange change for someone who lived in Chicago for 12 years and had learned the art of fighting with Comcast, ComEd, Peoples Energy and the like, whenever they did something I wasn’t down with.  I had become accustomed to being salty af, arguing my point til I’m blue in the face and then eventually ending up with 3 months free HBO or whatever.  That does not seem to happen here.  The rule is the rule and there’s really no negotiating.  

Yesterday though, a little miracle happened.  Everything was just taking soooooooooo long and I’m definitely not that patient of a person.  The paperwork gets really annoying after while.  Can we just have a website please?  Trust…  this shit would go so much quicker.  Everything takes forever. 

Anyway,  I was getting uber restless and super annoyed and so when my internet wanted to charge me a cancellation fee for being 5 days short of my 2 year contract, the Chicago Kiki came out.  I argued my point, came up with several other ways to combat this fee, asked for some official explanation behind paying the fee.  The fee wasn’t exorbitant but it wasn’t cheap either, when you added it to the total of also paying my last bill.  Anyway, they agreed and waived the cancellation fee.  

When I chose my internet service, I purposely chose one where they had English speakers so that I could handle stuff on my own if I had any problems.  Internet is life yo.  

Would they have listened to my gripes if it was a Japanese speaker translating back and forth between me and Mika?  Who knows?  All I know is I just wanted one mini victory for my day of annoyance and I got it.  😛

Currently listening to Spectrasoul and going through all my lesson folders and worksheets as I try and figure out what to throw away and what to keep for Neda.

So that’s all she wrote!  

Exams are over.  Nothing more to grade.  I’m still not really sure what exactly the kids do til next Wednesday when school officially finishes.  All  I know is it has nothing to do with me.  I’ll just be sitting in my aforementioned hot ass office, waiting for August 3rd when I blow this popsicle stand.  

I said goodbye to my students and it was waterworks central.  smh.  I’m such a crybaby.  LOL.  I still have a farewell English department dinner and have to give a speech at the closing ceremony next week.  I’ll be too busy memorising my Japanese to actually cry then. 

Currently listening to all the drum n bass.  😂  I’m just going through my Itunes  having a solo dnb party as I clean out my desk and throw away all the rubbish I’ve accumulated over the past two years.

Exam Inferno

I just have to make it through this week of grading exams and then it’ll be just me sitting in a hot ass office for the 4 weeks until I leave.  I don’t have any nenkyu left so there’s no last minute summer holiday and I’m okay with that.   The remaining days I had left, I’m using to come home a little bit earlier.  

I think i’m going to have to make friends with some of the teachers in the air conditioned offices.  “I know it’s been 2 years and I haven’t spoken a word to you, but can I sit in here and watch Netflix so I don’t  collapse from the heat?”  😛

My supervisor was laughing at me yesterday because my fan is pretty much touching my face.  It’s hot af in my office.

I have 200 exams to grade today, so I’m making an epic playlist to zone out to.  It’s the first years, so there’s no essay, and they will be easy to grade, but I might die from the repetition.

6 weeks?  Dang, wasn’t I just telling you there was 10 weeks like yesterday?  I guess not.

I’ve been pretty diligent about devoting time to packing up, cleaning and throwing shit out every weekend, so I’m on track and don’t think they’ll be any stressing out when the time actually comes.  We’ll see…

Hawaiian Tropics

When I lived in Minneapolis, there was this girl I used to rave with sometimes that we called Hawaiian Tropics.  It wasn’t a diss, she was actually trying her damnedest to become Miss Hawaiian Tropics.  I had never heard of this competition until I met her. She was always really orange.

Currently, I’m pretending I’m on a beach listening to dnb and drinking margaritas.  Really it’s 8 am, it’s rainy season and muggy as hell and I’m sitting in my office with a fan blowing in my face.

There is a bright spot though, I just transferred some old mixes from an external hard drive that I forgot I had brought with me to Japan, to my laptop and have been listening to some oldies but goodies.  Of course I find the hard drive while I’m going through my things to pack up shit to move back.

Lets be honest though, this is not really that different from every other day where I spend a majority of my time listening to dnb from 15 odd years ago.  This time around though, I have an even bigger library of mixes to choose from. 😉

This track is 14 years old.  Am I really that old?  LOL

Sardines

I have eaten a lot of sardines this year.  I live next to Kujukuri, which is famous for its sardines, and have eaten them fresh many times. おいしいですね。

The only reason I’m talking about sardines is because I’m currently listening to the Ed Rush & Optical track.

I only teach one lesson on Wednesdays, so I spend the rest of the day lesson planning.  Currently got a pretty awesome Ed Rush & Optical soundtrack going. ❤
