Today’s Oldie: Everything But The Girl – Blame (J Majik Remix) – Virgin 1999 I can tell you where I lost every record I’ve ever lost. LOL. The whole losing of the record is always so traumatic for me (god I love to exaggerate) that I remember the moment like it was yesterday. I love this remix. Like love love love it. It just evoked such a happy warm feeling that I always got excited when it came on. I loved the Everything But The Girl original and I just think that J Majik did a lovely job with the remix. I mixed at this huge new years eve party that year. It was about to be ’00 and the party was just insane.  I had a blast but there was seriously like 12 of us mixing from around 9pm to about 6am and all our records got mixed together due to the debauchery that was taking place. I’m usually pretty anal about watching over my records but these were all my really close friends so I was kinda lax about putting them away. When i got home the next evening, yes next evening, LOL, I was putting my records away and that record was nowhere to be found. It was part of a remix LP and I only had the other record with the other remixes that I didn’t like on it. Boo. I remember hounding Jimmy about whether or not he’d seen it and was so gutted. Lame. I know one of my friends probably has it but their record collections were all ridiculously huge and there wasn’t really any intense hunting going on to find it. I couldn’t find another copy of it around that time and just was so bummed. I had actually forgotten about it until today. I just found a copy online and bought it. Yay. This oldies section is doing wonders for replenishing my record collection. 😉

Cabin Pressure

Dang.  I was desperately in need of a vacay, if you couldn’t already tell by my endless posts. 🙂  I’m back at work and I feel so relaxed and refreshed.  I’m not wound up and crabby which is how I feel I’ve been for the past month.  The wedding was at this lovely cabin resort in Two Harbors, MN.  Lake Superior never looked so beautiful, lovely sunny weather, partying pretty much all day and good company.  Probably one of the best weddings I’ve ever been to.  Honestly though, when all your best friends are there how can you not have fun???

Back in the real world.  I’m mixing at Lava September 24.  I’ve definitely been slacking on the record buying.  I guess this is one of those times where if I was better at Serato, I wouldn’t have to worry about having new records and could just get mp3s and what not.

I downloaded a ton of mixes to listen to en route to the cabin and at the airport but actually never got around to them cuz I was too busy being one with nature or partying or sleeping.

I actually kinda like this London Elektricity LP.  Some nice tracks on there.  I especially like Maybe I Was Wrong.

I had a really good night last night. As I slowly make a name for myself in the geriatric community, I don’t really need much, just good music and good company. Yesterday I had exactly that. The pic is hopefully how I’m starting to look as I enter my senior citizen stages. Dashing old black lady. Dope.

Submorphics and Stunna came over and we did a little preparty and then headed to Lava. I was surprised by Lava, there were people there actually dancing and they weren’t crazy weirdos, it was just people having fun. Really nice vibe and awesome music. I danced a whole bunch. Both Whoa-B and Stunna really threw down. Stunna played a hot number from good old Will Miles that was just banging. I guess it’s a Talkbox Remix that he did. Don’t really have any other info on but just know it’s a hot one! 😉

Heard some jammers yesterday. No samples. 😦

Yesterday Stunna started his Bassdrive show with Commix’s Hung Up. Man, what a great tune. It made me think of this Commix mix from when they were on Fabio’s show last year. It’s a mini mix of some of the tunes they chose not to put on the album and it’s seriously amazing. Just beautiful drum n bass. There’s no tracklist cuz they didn’t even really say the names of the tracks.

Oi! F Ur Bike

I have quite the affinity towards grime. There’s something about it that is so much like my secondary school days in London that I just love it. Me and Brandon were talking about More Fire Crew’s Oi! the other day and it totally made me think of the Sway and $tush video of F Ur X that I’d been meaning to post for a while. I just kinda spaced it but I was listening to the song this morning and decided it was a proper way to start my day. 🙂

I completely fucked my leg up on my bike yesterday. I have old school pedals and it was one of the things I need to change out but haven’t gotten around to it.  Yesterday was my warning cuz I scraped the fuck out of my calf.  It went pretty deep and all the way up my leg and there was blood everywhere. It hurt pretty bad but I figured it wasn’t that big of a deal and I could moan about it for a minute but when I woke up this morning my leg is really badly bruised and very swollen and I can barely walk on it. Lame.

Overfiend is in Chicago this week. He’s playing at Seminar tonight alongside my bff Pipeline, so if you’re around you should come hang out at Lava, should be good times. 🙂

Busy work day. Hopefully I can get into the Spirit of actually being productive… yeah yeah, pun intended, sometimes it’s necesary to be silly and unfunny, you can’t be perfect all the time. 😉

Calling All Patients…

I absolutely promise that today is the last day I write about being sick. I’m even sick of writing about it so Im sure you’re sick of hearing about it. I know I’m feeling better but I’m really not well. I justTonsilitis don’t feel like I’m dying anymore which is a definite step up. My throat is still really swollen though and I’ve got a really horrible headache. I haven’t eaten any real food for like seven days. I’ve been surviving on a soup and Jamba Juice diet because my taste buds are shot and my throat is too swollen for me to actually swallow anything. I like soup and Jamba Juice as much as the next person but for seven days in a row it’s not really that appetizing. I’ve finally decided that if I’m not fully better by thursday I’ll go to the doctor. It’s hard for me to consider actually going to the doctor because I never get sick and it’s not something I do that frequently. Usually I just wait for whatever I’ve got to go away on it’s own and it usually does but this, whatever it is, is staying put. I’m also pretty sure that my throat looks like the pic to the right, which is not cute. Sorry for the gross pic but we’re family now and I think you too should share in my misery. 😉

Moving on, I went to the bike shop with CC yesterday. I’ve been trying to figure out what would be the best bike for me. I’m not trying to become a professional bike messenger type person. I just wanna ride my bike to work and around my neighbourhood. I’m willing to spend some money on it so I don’t necessarily think I should have to buy a bike from Target. I also have steep stairs so the bike has to be light enough that I can carry it without dying. I’ve decided to get a used one and fix it up. CC’s completely obsessed with her bike and she spent quite a pretty penny on it so she kinda knows what she’s doing and has been giving me some pointers. She also practically lives at the bike shop so at least I know the people won’t be a dick to me. We discussed all my needs and what I would have to get done and it seems like it’s all gonna go pretty well so I’m excited for next week’s prospects.

I guess I should make an official post about tomorrow. If you live in the Chi Town area, I’m playing at Lava. Random Movement is the Headliner. I’ll be playing from 10 til Midnight. I think it’s a pretty fun night but I’m biased because that’s where all my friends are. If you like dnb it’s definitely good local fun. Come hang out.

Seminar Flier

I heard this new Chase & Status tune the other day that I’m kinda digging Take Me Away. It’s weird how Chase & Status is so hit and miss for me. I really like the first tune and then you listen to the other one and I’m like ugh. There’s also a pretty cool Zero T remix of Leave Me Alone.

Back In Business

Miserable ToddlerI’ve felt like that crabby baby to the right for the past seven days. Fortunately I no longer feel that way. I’m not 100% but I at least don’t feel like I’m about to keel over and die.

All in all I had a pretty good weekend. I got all hopped up on meds and went to Bass Goes Boom on friday. Man, if you live in Chicago and you love dubstep and don’t go to this night, you’re crazy. Chef absolutely killed it. That night is really fun. It was nice to see Mike too both him and Tim threw down as well.

I finally went to the apple store and invested in a new ipod dock. Yay. I managed to get to work today with not a single person saying a word to me… just how I like it. I definitely have missed my ipod. Welcome back buddy.

Since I’ve been sick my equilibrium is all off and my hearing was all fucked up and I’ve had a really hard time mixing but I’m happy to say that my hearing has returned slightly. Not fully, but enough that I at least don’t feel like I’m sitting in a tin can. I’m playing at Lava on wednesday for the Random Movement show and it should be an interesting set to say the least.  The night will include 3 of my favourite things so it really can’t end up being that horrid, 1) My friends 2) Drum n Bass 3) Lava. 😉

Found this Doc Scott Mix. Everyone on Breaksblog seems to be raving about it so hopefully it’s enjoyable.
