I had a pretty fun weekend.  Went to see Kode 9 on friday and he killed it.  Flying Lotus… meh.  I left during his set cuz it sounded really bad.  Maybe they didn’t do a sound check for him or something cuz it was muddy and horrible sounding.  Kode 9 was so awesome though and I’m glad I got to see his whole set. The place was insanely packed.  I hadn’t been to a show at the Double Door in ages.  It was a glimpse into how summertime is in the Chi and I love it.  That’s the thing about living in the midwest, the winters are annoyingly depressing and the summers are amazing, so everyone pretty much spends their time just waiting for summer to show face.

Saturday was the Pendulum show.  Hmmm.  I am extremely too old to party with 18 year olds.  I knew that already.  LOL.  The show itself was good in terms of turn out and everyone was having fun.  I just have a hard time partying with young people.  I’ve accepted my geriatric status and I’m happy with it.  I like hanging out with people my own age. 🙂

Still Grey is still one of my favourite dnb tracks but the rest of the stuff Pendulum was playing is just not my alley. The kiddies love it though so I’m not going to hate.  To each his own right?

Sunday I just kicked it at home and it was so nice to relish in the quiet since the capoeira folks decided to take the weekend off with their incessant drumming.  Best Easter I’ve had yet!

All in all fun times.

I used to really love McDonald’s annual patty’s shamrock shakes but last year I had a really gross one and it ruined it for me.

Happy St. Patty’s day.  I wrote this yesterday so I could just publish the draft from my phone and not have to boot up my geriatric laptop.

Burlesque Kiki

When I think burlesque, I think Dita Von Teese.  Yesterday for Stunna’s bday we all went to Debonair.  They had gone to a Cubs game prior, but I couldn’t afford to partake in that part of the bday celebration.  While we were there there was a burlesque show.  This bony girl got up there and did her thing.  It was ick.  I know she wasn’t taking off her clothes for me but eww do people really like skin and bones?  I’m pretty sure there was an eating disorder hiding up in there somewhere.  Regardless, it was good times.  It’s nice when we do different things.

I went to take some tests today so I can start temping.  I aced the word and excel tests but dang, I guess I am not as well versed in powerpoint as I thought I was.  No biggie.  This will get me out of the house and maybe find me some other admin job until my magnificent script is done. 😉

I had downloaded a set the other day and was really excited to listen to it, then once I started I heard some emcee babbling away and it ruined everything. I was quite bummed because the tracklist of the set looked pretty good and it was one of my fave djs. When I used to go to raves I was really into the emcee, that’s if they were good anyway. There was a whole different element to hyping up the party. Now, I’m sure it’s cuz I’m older, but I just have no desire to hear someone who can’t emcee properly mumbling over tracks. It doesn’t hype up the party and it’s just annoying. My dnb life today is very different from the one in the late 90’s. Now I just go to cute little intimate bars and hear my friends mix and have a drink… definitely not prime environment for someone yelling loudly with bad rhymes. I used to like a ton of emcees and now I like about 3. LOL. I just want someone who chats little but when they do say something it’s awesome and actually complements the dj’s set. That may seem like not that much to ask but the way emcees are today you’re lucky if you get it.

I will end this rant now. I just was super annoyed at the emcee i heard ruining the mix.

Today’s Oldie: Pendulum – Still Grey – Timeless Recordings 2004 I was gonna put Another Planet as today’s oldie but both me and Submorphics agreed it was too obvious. Still Grey is an awesome track. Remember when everyone was Pendulum obsessed? Rightfully so. You gotta give props where props is due and they gave a new energy to dnb for a minute. Good track.
