My friends Ron & Rocko are having a Halloween party and everyone’s dressing up so I guess I will have to also. Being a British kid there really wasn’t any trick or treating and dressing up going on so adopting this habit so late in life seems so silly but whatever. I will find the cheapest accessories possible and be dressed up. No one likes to be the only one not dressed up do they?
I used to have a ridiculous obsession with all types of sweets. I would eat them constantly instead of real food but now that I’m health conscious and whatever I pretty much don’t indulge in them too much. The only sweet I really can’t give up is ice cream and even that I have given in and buy the low fat no sugar kind… yep I’m boring. Today though, in honour of all trick or treaters everywhere I will be stuffing my face with copious amounts of sugar.
Magical Gravity feat. Adam Noid – Singular Joy (track is in the player) Heard this one on Stunna’s show the other day.
Today’s Oldie: Marcus Intalex & ST Files – How You Make Me Feel – 31 Records 1999 This track is so lovely. I still play it quite frequently. Great vocal. Lovely flow to the bassline. One of my Marcus Intalex faves for sure.
I post these Format mixes a lot cuz they are really good to listen to. Nice track selection and all in all just good dnb.

I had downloaded a set the other day and was really excited to listen to it, then once I started I heard some emcee babbling away and it ruined everything. I was quite bummed because the tracklist of the set looked pretty good and it was one of my fave djs. When I used to go to raves I was really into the emcee, that’s if they were good anyway. There was a whole different element to hyping up the party. Now, I’m sure it’s cuz I’m older, but I just have no desire to hear someone who can’t emcee properly mumbling over tracks. It doesn’t hype up the party and it’s just annoying. My dnb life today is very different from the one in the late 90′s. Now I just go to cute little intimate bars and hear my friends mix and have a drink… definitely not prime environment for someone yelling loudly with bad rhymes. I used to like a ton of emcees and now I like about 3. LOL. I just want someone who chats little but when they do say something it’s awesome and actually complements the dj’s set. That may seem like not that much to ask but the way emcees are today you’re lucky if you get it.
I will end this rant now. I just was super annoyed at the emcee i heard ruining the mix.
L.A.O.S – Star Soul All L.A.O.S tracks kinda sound similar to me but I still love em. (track is in the player)
ATP – September (track is in the player)
Today’s Oldie: Pendulum – Still Grey – Timeless Recordings 2004 I was gonna put Another Planet as today’s oldie but both me and Submorphics agreed it was too obvious. Still Grey is an awesome track. Remember when everyone was Pendulum obsessed? Rightfully so. You gotta give props where props is due and they gave a new energy to dnb for a minute. Good track.
Found this mix when I was linking Paul Saint Jack’s page yesterday. Loved it.

Yes! I finally feel like myself again. I’ve had a really crappy two weeks. I’ve just been a stroppy cow and felt pretty miserable and had family issues and money issues… Life basically has not been going my way. You know how it goes, you wallow in it for a bit and then you realise that there isn’t really anything you can do so you snap out of it and continue trudging along.
I have a new dnb crush. I always have dnb crushes for like a week or so. Let me clarify, THIS DOES NOT MEAN I WANT TO MAKE OUT WITH THIS PERSON … I don’t want this getting back to the person I name my dnb crush and have them thinking I’m some crazy internet stalker. It just means that I’m am so excited about their production skills or their mixing skills or their overall enthusiasm for dnb that I have developed quite the affinity for them. This week it’s Komatic. Komatic, I heart you. His show on Bassdrive is awesome. I was in such a horrid mood yesterday and listening to him for 3 hours was so lovely. He has great track selection, he’s a good dj and his desire to share drum n bass with the masses is really endearing and I like his own tracks too. He played a new one yesterday that I was digging, Those Around Me, no sample but there’s other stuff in his player. Check out his show every Monday from 10am – 12pm U.S time. If you live anywhere else I’m sure you can figure out what time that is your time and he also puts his archives up for a week on his myspace page.
Enough gushing. Here’s some tracks I’m loving.
Icicle feat. Nymfo – Green Goblin
Schema – Demensions (track is in the player)
Paul Saint Jack – Eclipse (track is in the player)
It’s my best friend’s birthday today. Happy birthday fool.
Today’s Oldie: Dj Red – Uprise - Trouble On Vinyl 1997 (The youtube identifier is labeled wrong but the video is right) Trouble On Vinyl was a force to be reckoned with back in the day. I have a lot of tracks from that label. This track is amazing. Everything about it is awesome. I love the way the bassline creeps in and rises when you’re in the mix. I love the way the bassline rolls and swallows you whole when you’re just listening to it. Such a classic. I have a tape pack from back then where everyone mixes all the same tracks like they used to and no matter who mixed it, every time the track comes on you can hear the crowd going nuts. True anthem style. I didn’t own the record and when I wanted it took me forever to find it but now I finally own it and I’m a happy camper. Loves it.

I’m feeling awfully scatterbrained this morning and for some reason the word scatterbrained brings Worzel Gummidge to mind… Don’t ask me why, it just does.
It’s the weekend. Another day of being busy at work. I’m listening to Spinn but too busy to actually talk in the chat room. Boo.
I can’t find my list of tracks that I was gonna talk about which is weird because it’s always next to my computer which also probably means I probably accidentally threw it away yesterday. See what I mean, scatterbrained.
Today’s Oldie: Dj Trace – Mutant Revisited – Emotif Records 1996 Woh! This track is so sick. I used to be part of a dj crew in Minneapolis called JVC. Minneapolis is mostly a techno and house city but for a little while in the late 90′s JVC helped bring jungle/drum n bass to the peeps. It was a pretty cool time. We had this ridiculously amazing rave called Murderapolis. The whole Formation crew was on tour and they headlined the rave. It was so fucking fun. Seriously. To have all those people show up for a dnb rave and have it be such a success was really great. Dj SS opened up his set with this track and seriously everyone just lost their minds. Big up Trace. Good times.
Hopefully my awesome oldie makes up for me not having any tracks to talk about.
Have a good weekend.

I’ve been in a funk all week. Boo. No one’s happy all the time I guess so I’m trying not to let it stress me out.
Druid – The Blue Yonder Oh the wonders of the Bassdrive chat room. I heard this track on Bassdrive last month. I listen all day at work. I have a sheet of paper that I scrawl down tracks I like on the right side of my desk and if I want to write about them I stick a post it note on the monitor. I couldn’t find Druid’s myspace page so I’ve basically kept scratching out this track and throwing away post it notes for the past month. LOL. I saw a Druid in the chatroom and lo and behold it was in fact the one and only and now I can share the track with you. I just like that it has a symphonious ring to it. I’m not trying to be pretentious with that word, it was the only one that came to mind. I actually had to look it up on dictionary.com to make sure it wasn’t a synonym I had made up. I just imagine the London Symphony Orchestra playing this tune and everyone just nodding their heads. The track is in the player.
Poise & Hybrid J – Captured Moment (track is in both of their players) I’m not actually familiar with these two producers but I’m definitely digging the track.
Calibre – Don’t Mind EP I like this EP but I can’t tell if it’s cuz I’m kinda emo this week and therefore am digging the hauntingly melancholy eerie sound to the tracks. It’s Calibre so the production is always good, I just don’t know if I would actually play them out.
Today’s Oldie: Ellis Dee – Lockdown – Collusion Records 1995 Man, I don’t know what to say about this record. I loved it! It came out during this time period where I just wanted to hear random rap samples and rolling basslines. Do it well enough and I thought you were God. I would just stand in front of the speaker at raves and dance to this track like a maniac. This for sure was a party tune.

It’s wednesday. My mum is coming this weekend. There’s kind of a lotta things going on around me that are pretty major. We’ll see how they pan out.
Love these tunes:
Ed Oberon – Kid Rio This track is out of control. I love it. I heard it in the mix on Tyler’s show and it was fire. Check it out, it’s in the player.
Kjell – Healing Process Lovin this one. Really great bassline. I feel like Kjell’s tracks have a distinct style, not quite sure how to describe it but whatever it is I like it.
Tyler Straub – Waiting For You I had actually meant to write about this track when I heard it on Bassdrive about a month ago but I really wanted to wait til I had a sample to share with you. It has this really serene melodic vibe that is just awesome. Not only do I have a sample but it’s actually available as a free download from the Santorin site. Now that is pretty cool.
Today’s Oldie – Roni Size – Watching Windows (Ed Rush & Optical Remix) – Talking Loud 1998 All my oldie favourites seem to be by the same artists. LOL. Seriously though, I do remember from about ’95 to about ’00 I could always rely on the same labels and the same artists for my tracks. They were the ones doing the best stuff and others couldn’t even really come close. This remix is ridiculously wonderful. I love the idea of a remix. I’m always curious to see what someone else would do with a track. The Ed Rush and Optical spin is just lovely. Classic track.
This mix should be fire.

Got a lot of stuff to do at work today so I’m getting an early start to my entry.
I’ve been feeling a bit blah lately. I need to get my ass in gear and be productive. Instead I find myself being quite lazy which is so not cool. Bah. Sometimes you just go through slumps so I’ll just chalk it up to that and hope I snap out of it soon.
Tracks I’m loving:
BCee & Lomax – One Year On (Random Movement Remix) Track is in the BCee player.
Metrik – Zero Gravity It’s a little rowdy but sometimes I get in the mood for that. Rowdy by my standards anyways. LOL.
Today’s Oldie: Peshay – Miles From Home - Mo Wax 1998 Totally missed out on this record. Boo. I remember not really being that into Peshay stuff at the time and when this track came out I didn’t even bother to listen to it. Then one of the boys in my dj crew played it out at one of his gigs and I wanted it so bad but when I went to get it there were no more. Love it. I’m sure if I tried hard enough I could get a bunch of the tracks that i missed out on but unfortunately since my record addiction is a hobby I’ll have to wait til i win the lottery to devote funds to getting them.
I’ve been talking a lot about the new shows I’ve been listening to on Bassdrive. Komatic’s is one of them that I am newly excited about. Here’s his October studio mix. You can check him out for yourself.

Had a pretty nice weekend. Friday I bar hopped like a mad woman which is so unlike me these days but it was really fun. I think I need to leave my house more. It’s been almost 2 months since I stopped working weekends and I’m still way too into lying around my house watching tv. GET OFF THE COUCH KIKI!
I noticed that it got really dark super early yesterday. Daylight savings end is still two weeks away but the darkness is just creeping upon us. Boo.
I don’t really have anything exciting planned for this week. We’ll see what happens as the days go on.
Heard this one the other day and was quite digging it:
ATP – Struggle (track is in the player)
Today’s Oldie: Dom & Roland – Homicide – Moving Shadow 1999 For a while I was really just into the sing along aspect of dnb. I wanted just to dance to it and know the words if they were any. I stayed away from the organic sounding tracks cuz I really didn’t understand the production aspect. Once I really started to take the tracks apart I of course learned to love way more producers. Dom & Roland was one of them. His back catalogue is so ridiculously awesome. Homicide is one of my favourites. Unfortunately my record is really badly scratched and skips so I can only play like 2 minutes of it. Boo.
I like posting the Hospital Records podcast because it’s short and sweet and good and a nice way to start your week.
