Last night’s show was awesome.  I can honestly say that the one of things I miss about Minneapolis is how small the music scene was.  Everyone pretty much knew everyone.  There wasn’t that many of us so we all dabbled in everything and you got to know everyone personally and found ways to coordinate events etc.  I djed in between many an indie band set.  I did mash up gigs with live bands.  You just kinda did whatever.  Here the city is huge and I tend to just mingle with my dnb peeps.  I don’t really know many bands and I don’t even really know any other djs that aren’t really dnb djs.  I’m sure some of it is cuz I definitely don’t go out as much as I did in Minneapolis but at the same time i also know that it would be physically impossible to get to know every dj and every band here in Chicago. 😉  Anyways it was just fun to go see Andy’s band.  The Bottom Lounge was packed and that was actually my first time going to the new location.  Good times.

It’s my birthday week.  I’m not doing a party this year as I have the past 3 years so instead I’m just milking the whole week and going out of my way to do fun things.  My friend Andy just called and said one of the bands he plays with Why? is coming into town and playing Bottom Lounge tonight so now my week is starting out awesome and goes all the way through to my bday on saturday.  Woot.

I had a pretty lowkey weekend.  Lots of lounging and hanging out action.  I did finish organising my records though which is awesome.  I just have some last minute divider/labeling stuff to do and then I’ll be one happy camper.

When I think burlesque, I think Dita Von Teese.  Yesterday for Stunna’s bday we all went to Debonair.  They had gone to a Cubs game prior, but I couldn’t afford to partake in that part of the bday celebration.  While we were there there was a burlesque show.  This bony girl got up there and did her thing.  It was ick.  I know she wasn’t taking off her clothes for me but eww do people really like skin and bones?  I’m pretty sure there was an eating disorder hiding up in there somewhere.  Regardless, it was good times.  It’s nice when we do different things.

I went to take some tests today so I can start temping.  I aced the word and excel tests but dang, I guess I am not as well versed in powerpoint as I thought I was.  No biggie.  This will get me out of the house and maybe find me some other admin job until my magnificent script is done. 😉

I actually had a really lovely weekend.  Friday I just went out with Jessica and enjoyed some good girls night out company.  Saturday me and Daniela went to Gianna’s rooftop party for her non-profit, For The Mamas.  It’s an organization to help women battling cancer.  I had a really good time.  You can’t really beat loud music and drinks outside also it’s nice to help contribute to good causes.  My weekend was mostly awesome because of the company I kept and you can’t really ask for more than that.

Last night was awesome.  I went to go see Caspa at Smart Bar.  I can’t believe how many times I’ve been to Smart Bar this month.  It’s usually a place I don’t go to too often cuz I hate driving there and I’m not really on the electronic club tip that much these days .  I’ve seen some great shows there the past month though.  Caspa was def. my favourite one.  It’s so lovely when the room is just filled with enthusiastic people who are just as excited about the music as you are.  Last night was really packed.  Whoa-B and Timid had awesome sets.  Caspa murdered it.  The crowd just ate him up.  They knew all his tracks,  freaked out at the right times, danced a ton and even sang back lyrics really loudly?  I know.  I was in awe too.  LOL.  Made for a really great night.  I didn’t even feel like I was in Chicago cuz it seemed like there was, dare I say, a healthy scene that wasn’t just house music.  I had a blast. 🙂

The record organising continues.  Thankfully I can say that I do actually see an end in sight soon.  Yay.

I am still amazed by how busy I am for being an unemployed person.  I guess I always imagined unemployment to be a period of time where you didn’t do anything but sit on the couch and watch telly.  I guess it really is what you make of it.  Today is chockablock full for me.  If you are in Chi go see Klute at Lava tonight.  Lots of buddies playing, Lamebrane, Stunna, Submorphics and Subverb.  Should be a good night.  Also listen to that Zero T Fabric Live Promo mix, it’s dope. 🙂

Hot Vinyl Mess Kiki

Lately it doesn’t seem that strange that I’m up and at ’em at the crack of dawn cuz I just wake up and get ready to go to  the gym.  Today I have to take Joia to school to help Jessica out so instead I am lying in bed typing this post as Joia watches Sponge Bob.  Hanging out with a kid at 630 in the morning is actually right up my alley cuz I can never seem to find anyone who actually wants to have conversations with me this early in the morning but Joia definitely has a lot to say.  LOL.

I’ve been listening to a lot of mixes lately.  There’s some really good ones floating around.  I’m really digging the Faironne, the new Random Movement Podcast and I’m still listening to the Quantrek.  There’s a bunch of others too but it’s just silly to list them all.

In other news, I’m in vinyl hell.  One way I’ve been combating the unemployment blues is I’ve developed a sort of schedule.  I just make sure I incorporate a bunch of stuff in my day to help time go by faster.  I don’t want to be a lazy loser just lying on the couch watching telly.  It’s not really a time schedule, it’s more of a “at some point during the day do this” schedule.  One of those things is mix for an hour or however long I decide.  This task has become harder and harder as my records are in complete disarray.  My records used to be organised.  I took an extended amount of time many years ago and came up with a pretty awesome system.  Back then I had an abundance of crates and just sorted them out that way.  Then I got this lovely record shelf from one of my friends and I was so excited the day I got it that I just started pulling shit randomly from crates and putting them on the shelf.  Now the shelf just serves as a purpose to “put records away.”  They are in no particular order and it sucks.  I can’t find a bloody thing.  I started organising them yesterday. *sigh*  It is going to take forever.  Boo. 😦

Brown Leaves Kiki

Wait… there’s no brown leaves on my street.  LOL.  Fall is here.  I kinda miss having a back garden sometimes.  It’s nice to witness that part of the change of the seasons.  I definitely don’t miss having to rake them up though.

This weekend was definitely the rowdiest I’ve gotten in a while… and when I say rowdy I don’t mean I got wasted and out of control cuz i don’t do that anymore.  I just stayed out real late and danced.  Geez, I’m obviously a geriatric when staying out late and dancing equals rowdiness.  😉  The Skream show was really fun.  Murderbot’s set was ridiculously awesome.  I really enjoyed it.

Klute is this week.  I always look forward to a Klute set.  He is just a really good dj.  Can’t ask for more than that.
