Manic Monday

“It’s just another Manic Monday o oo o”

I loved that Bangles song. What girl in the 80s didn’t? Susanna Hoffs was the shit. Don’t get me started on Eternal Flame. LOL.

I actually had a really great weekend. A lot of hanging out went on.

Saturday I had to go to Chuck E. Cheese for my Jessica’s kid’s bday. What a nightmare that place is. My child will NEVER have a party there. The other parents kept saying to me, “this is probably making you decide you don’t want kids” but actually I wasn’t thinking that at all. The place itself was horrible not necessarily the children. Bad kids are bad because of bad parents that has nothing to do with not wanting kids. Chuck E. Cheese’s atmosphere is just chaotic on it’s own, that’s why I thought it was insane. I needed a nap after only being there for an hour and a half!

Hung out with Dan and Jay. Dan’s heading home to Romania for the holidays and I haven’t seen Jay in ages so it was nice to spend some time with them.

Hung out with Reisha, mixed a pretty nice old skool set and played with her baby.

Spent all day hanging out with Stunna yesterday after I picked him up from the airport drank and talked about dnb. I talk about Stunna a lot because he’s one of the few people that doesn’t mind rambling incessantly about dnb with me. Submorphics come in at a close second as he has become quite tolerant of my aim convos and doesn’t seem to mind keeping me company at work. LOL.

Told you a lot of hanging out went on.

Tunes:
Beatkonexion feat. Mike Romeo – Soldiers (track is in the Mike Romeo player)

Lynx & Atlantic Connection – Danger Zone (Submorphics Remix) (track is in the AC player) I didn’t really like the original of this. It was ok. The remix is dope though. Very sexy.

Today’s Oldie:
Mental PowerPurple (Barcode Remix) – Formation 1997
I had Formation Records nostalgia and mixed a little Colour Series/Country Series/VIP box set in my old skool set on saturday and was like ooh I gotta put the Purple Remix as my oldie for monday. This one goes out to my buddy Rob from my JVC crew. We were both big fans of this track.

Influenza Media keeps cranking out these mixes! I have no problem with that at all. 😉

Oh What Up Friday…

Normally, I anxiously await Friday’s arrival. Not that I’m not happy to see you Friday, I’m just surprised that you showed up so quickly. I can’t believe how fast this week went by.

It’s fucking cold. I know I live in the midwest but still, whenever winter finally makes an appearance it’s a surprise to me.

There’s an mp3 of Gerard’s show feat. Lenzman here if anyone’s interested.

Tunes:
Amaning – High Life (track is in the player)

Sinistarr – Recovery (track is in the player) I must say I personally am not usually that into Sinistarr’s stuff, but I am really digging his latest tracks. This one, and the other one I posted the other day, Detroit Diesel, are just fire.

Today’s Oldie:
The TerroristChopper (Shy FX Remix) – Dread Recordings 1996 Dancefloor stormers! Holla! There’s no way you can play this track and not have everyone go nuts. Banger indeed. Awesome.

I really don’t have any plans for this weekend. Whenever the cold hits my immediate reaction is to figure out how to stay cozy all day every day. I’ll be working on that for the next couple of days I guess. 😉

Spinn is on in at 9am cst. Tune in. I will be.

Have a nice weekend.

Kiki The Time Bandit

Oh the Time Bandits.  I loved this movie when I was younger!  🙂

Time is escaping me today.  I can’t believe it’s already 1pm.

This will have to be a quick post as I’ve kinda got a lot of crap.

Tunes:

BCee – Consumed (track is in the player)  Really loving this one.  So pretty.

Today’s Oldie:

Dj SSRollidgeFormation Records 1994 This tune is heavy.  Seriously amazing.  I remember listening to this record a lot and just being in awe of jungle.  We’ve already talked about my need for therapy because of my obsessions, in the early to mid ’90s Dj SS was a serious one.  I was all about him.  When I finally started mixing I bought every Formation record I could get my hands on.  This is a classic must have tune.

Haven’t listened to this yet.  Tracklist looks good.

Kiki On A Roll

I feel determined and productive and ready.  That’s a nice feeling.  It means that I will actually get things done.  I’m on a mission people.

Tunes:

Lenzman feat. Jo-SEmeralds (track is in the Lenzman player)  Everyone’s kinda been geeking about this track and I so wasn’t on the bandwagon… at first.  LOL.  The more I hear it, the more it grows on me and now I kinda love it.

Paul SG & Eros – Cape South (you can hear Cape South on Eros’s page)  Heard this one on Overfiend’s show.  Nice easy going pretty Brazilian type vibe to this tune.  I’m definitely digging it.

Today’s Oldie:

L DoubleSaturday Night Flex (Rollers Revival Remix) Labello Blanco Recordings 1997 I keep making it harder for myself every morning that I forget to look at my records and pick out an oldie.  It becomes a process and a half.  Stunna had an awesome one for me today but I couldn’t find a good sample and I at least like to have a nice mp3 to showcase these great oldies.  I finally remembered this one.  Oh I loved loved loved this tune.  Me saying I love a tune is so lame these days but I can’t help it.  I really do love dnb therefore I love all tunes obsessively until I get sick of them.  *shrugs*  Saturday Night Flex was so organically rowdy how could you not help but love it?  I remember when we had L Double come to Minneapolis and he was the coolest dude ever.  The rave was called Hijack and we had it in an airplane hanger.  I love thinking of old rave times in Mpls.  Warm memories.

I guess I’m having a Lenzman day today. 🙂  Submorphics turned me on to this mix Lenzman did for Gerard’s Drive By show on Kiss 100.  You know I enjoyed it since it has Theives In The Night on it.  I don’t have an mp3 but you can listen to the archive on the Kiss Kube for the rest of this week.

Hated It!

WordPress gives you a stats breakdown of the details of how many people read your blog, incoming links, what search terms they used etc. There’s the usual dnb artists and what not that people enter as search terms but the one that I find crazy is the amount of people that seem to find my blog by searching for Blaine Edwards and Antoine Merriweather. There’s one post from ages ago where I commented on my overuse of the term “Loves It” and said that it reminded me of Blaine and Antoine. It’s mindboggling and awesome at the same time how many people read that post. Damon Wayans’s outfits were always off the chain! I along with your average Joe love Men On Film and figure they deserve another shout out today. 😉

I can’t believe we’re in December. I’m quite looking forward to Christmas this year. I just want to hang out with my family. I love it when I get to see all my brothers and sisters. This year is the 5 year anniversary of my stepfather’s death and in my mother’s culture we celebrate the life of someone who has passed every 5 years. There’s a big ceremony and a party so everyone will be coming home this year.

My family was supposed to make their wish lists and I couldn’t think of anything I really wanted. Ever since I came back from Africa at the beginning of this year I just found myself getting rid of the desire to want unnecessary items. I saw that my family over there basically survives with no extravagant items and are quite content. I racked my brain for like half an hour trying to think of things to put on my list and could only come up with 3 things??!! What happened to my greedy child status? LOL. The three things were bedsheets, “Extras” dvd box set and 10lb dumbells so I can do my weights workout routine at home. *sigh* Yes I have officially become a grown up.

Tunes:

LogisticsDaylight Creeps In (I just heard this for the first time on the mix I posted below. I guess it’s only on the Japanese Import of Reality Checkpoint. Good track nonetheless.)

J-Cut – The Beginning (track is in the player)

Sinistarr – Detroit Diesel (track is in the player) Heard this one on that Mace & Clart mix I posted yesterday. Dope.

Today’s Oldie:

Undercover AgentFive TonesJuice Records 1997 Oh man. This is one of the first records that I actually figured out how to use the phono/line button while mixing with. God help anyone who was listening to my sets in 1997 cuz I’m sure you got really sick of this record. LOL. It’s nothing fancy, just a nice simple rolling bassline track. Good stuff. I would still play it today if my copy wasn’t so scratched up and clackalacking like nobody’s business.

Came across this mix today. The tracklist peeked my curiousity so I decided to give it a listen. I enjoyed it. It’s an interesting contrast of tracks.

Snow

Snow. Boo. I’m not ready for it yet but unfortunately it’s here and it’s not pretty like I want it to be, it’s just murky and grey.

My Thanksgiving holiday was really awesome. I just hung out with my mum and ate food. Got back early yesterday and just hung out with Reisha and her adorable baby.

Back at work. Back to the grind. It’s really hard to be serious when you’ve done nothing for 4 days.

Tunes:

Benny Page & VisionaryDon’t Worry/Youths Today Sometimes you just love cheesy tracks. This is one of those times. Don’t worry has my favourite dancehall vocal ever “Say Wooee” so I can’t help but love it. A majority of the time if you just put a mainstream song that I like to dnb and the bassline isn’t shit, I’m bound to love it. LOL. I could do without the vocal on Youths Today though.

Tha Substitutes – Roxy (track is in the player)

Today’s Oldie:
Ryme TymePaybackDSCI4 Records 1999 I went through this phase during jungle/hip hop era where I would constantly throw hip hop acappellas over my mixes. I got pretty good at it for a while but I’m not good at doing things in moderation.  I am quite the extremist.  I did the acappella thing so much that I got sick of it and haven’t really ever done it since. This track was one of my favourites. I had a JT Money acappella of Alright and it went so well with Payback. It was a really fun mix to do. I have a lot of DSCI4 records but this one was definitely one of my tops.

So I’m in Wisconsin with my mum.  Eating food, watching tv, lounging around etc.  Isn’t that what you’re supposed to do when you go to your parents house? 🙂

Tunes:

Q Project – Holy War (track is in the player)  I’m actually really digging this one, I heard it yesterday when I was listening to the Hospital Podcast.  I went on a super Q Project kick from about ’05 to ’07 and then I got over it and haven’t bought anything him by him this whole year.  I am loving this one though.

Today’s Oldie:

I have no idea why I’ve found it necessary to devote two posts in a row to Q Project but whatever.  I’ll just round it all out by making today’s oldie something of his as well.  LOL.

Gobble Gobble

I just pulled up to my mum’s house aka Little Africa/Little Bangladesh. As I’ve said before my mum is Sierra Leonean. My mum and my stepdad lived in Bangladesh for a while and when my mum moved back to America she redesigned the house and it totally looks like Little Africa/Little Bangladesh. I love the little things that make your home home.

My drive was awesome. I didn’t want to leave yesterday because of traffic and I really wanted to go to Lava. This morning I sailed through. No traffic, just me raving out in my car to Stunna, Random Movement and the likes. There’s nothing like raving out in your car to dnb at 5a.m.

Lava was awesome. Good music, good people, good times.

Happy Turkey Day U.S. folks. 🙂

Today’s Oldie: Dj Sappo Ding Dong Bass RemixRinse Out 1997 Ooh. Tune and a half! I loved those dancefloor bangers. I told you I was a speaker girl. I just would go stand by myself and feel the bass and dance my ass off. During that period tracks like this were ideal. I just wanted to dance for hours and hours… now I feel exactly opposite. LOL. I just want to be able to stand in a corner and hear good music and hang out with my friends. Dang I’m old. 😉

Productive Kiki

I’m on a roll people. It’s only 8:37 and I’ve already gotten a lot of shit done. That might have something to do with the fact that I’ve been up since 4:45 a.m. but still it feels good. I stayed late at work yesterday to get my work done so now I get to leave early and that has definitely put a magnificent start to my day. Yay. I’m also just really excited at the thought of not having to work for the next four days.

If you’re in Chicago tonight definitely stop by Lava! It’s gonna be a fun Seminar with Stunna, Submorphics, Radiata & Timid. D&B and Dubstep and all my friends? You don’t have to ask me twice. Black wednesday is definitely one of my favourite nights out in Chicago.

Bizzy Bee

Remember Bizzy B? Remember Joker? I do have one Joker record that I actually refuse to part with. Something about Money Hoes and Clothes. LOL. I don’t remember the exact title but I know that the sleeve is grey.

This post will have to be short and sweet.  I’m super busy. My boss isn’t going to be here tomorrow and he says if I get all the work he left me done, I can leave early tomorrow, which would be dope.  Right now the amount of work I have to do will not be allowing any leaving early to be happening, so I’m trudging away.

All About Kiki

It was snowing this morning. It didn’t look like the pic above but it would have been nice if it had.

This weekend was lovely. It was all about me, me, me time. I listened to a ton of music. Cleaned my place. Made an attempt to organize my records. (a rubbish attempt at that) Wrote for a while. I’m not one of those people that doesn’t like to be alone. I definitely relish in it. I love having time to focus on what’s going on in my life and reflect on how to make myself a better person. Woh, we’re getting too deep here, lets talk about music. 😛

I had 3 mixes on heavy, heavy rotation this weekend. Really good listening. Zero T D&B TV Mix, Stunna Rubiks Podcast and the SpectraSoul Kongkast #55. On the SpectraSoul mix there is this really awesome track towards the end that’s one of their dubs called In Profile.

Tunes:

Redeyes & LenzmanThieves In The Night
This is probably my favourite track right now. I heard it a while ago and have been waiting to find some kind of sample to share with you but unfortunately there is none or I should just say I couldn’t find one. I pretty much stay tuned to Bassdrive hoping someone will play it. LOL. Old school style. I was totally that kid that used to do that. Just keep the radio on hoping I would hear them play the songs that I liked. (i don’t even listen to regular radio anymore so I guess I’m showing my age since radio today only rotates about 10 songs total) I’ve heard it on Dj Presha’s show and Random Movement played it last week. Sexy tune. Just sultry and melodic. I love it. Keep your ears peeled people.

Random Movement & Mixmaster DocRattled System
Loving this one. What’s not to love? There’s a Bjork sample in it! (track is in the Random Movement player)

Today’s Oldie: Pieter KRapportOffshore Recordings 2003
When I first started listening to Offshore, I was fortunate enough to be given the first 6 or so releases all at once. This Pieter K was the one I listened to non stop. Awesome track. I’ve been having a hard time tracking down mp3s today. Finally found one on Chemical. It’s track c.

Yay for a 3 day work week this week.
