It’s my birthday week.  I’m not doing a party this year as I have the past 3 years so instead I’m just milking the whole week and going out of my way to do fun things.  My friend Andy just called and said one of the bands he plays with Why? is coming into town and playing Bottom Lounge tonight so now my week is starting out awesome and goes all the way through to my bday on saturday.  Woot.

I had a pretty lowkey weekend.  Lots of lounging and hanging out action.  I did finish organising my records though which is awesome.  I just have some last minute divider/labeling stuff to do and then I’ll be one happy camper.

Old Lady Kiki

I keep trying to come up with more ways to say that I’m geriatric.  There’s not really that many ways!  My weekend was filled with good food, good friends and lot of napping/lazing around the apartment.

Friday I went to lunch with Jesus and Shannon at this really cute place in Lincoln Square.  Really good food.  Friday night… I really did have good intentions.   I was going to gallivant across town and once my eyes started closing I admitted defeat and told my friends I would be staying home.  I think my disappointment is not actually with becoming geriatric, it’s the lack of disappointment with the transformation.  LOL.  I don’t mind staying home!  If you told me all I could do for the rest of my life starting today was to be surrounded by the company of my friends and eat amazing meals I wouldn’t even care.  I guess I didn’t think I would be hanging up my hat at 33.  And yes I’m aware that my bday is still 4 weeks away but I’m already 33 as far as I’m concerned.

I could continue with the rest of the weekend but it’s kind of the same deal so I’ll just do a quick summary.  Saturday, brunch with Ron and Rocko, loads of yummy breakfast items, good company, Small Bar with my dnb peeps, good beer, kicking it with Melissa.  Sunday, I stuffed my face at Daniela’s parents’ house to the point of feeling sick.  I couldn’t help it.  It was just too yummy.

Anyways, here we are, it’s Monday and surprisingly it seemed like everyone did most of their bbqing over the weekend.  The highlight of my Monday is Pipeline coming to fix my laptop keyboard so I don’t have to use the external one anymore.  Woot.  Hopefully all you people that actually work will enjoy your day off. 😉

Hello.  Yes I’m rubbish.  I didn’t mean to neglect you.  I honestly didn’t realise that the main reason I was able to write in my blog everyday was because I spent all day sitting at the computer.  I’m seriously not home long enough to come up with the time to write posts these days.  I’m going to make an attempt to do them first thing when I wake up now.

My 4th was pretty cool.  Beatchemist and some of our Bassdrive buddies were here through the 4th so I kicked it with them at Juju’s and drank ate and watched the fireworks on Juju’s street… yes I did say street.  True Chicago style people just having firework wars from block to block.  Woot.

I’m still not to stressed out about not having a job.  I’m still optimistic that the situation will sort itself out.  I think that stressing about money is really annoying so I’ve just chosen not to do it.  The thing that is making me a wee bit depressed though is not having anything to do.  I’ve become quite adept at filling up my days with activities but when you wake up at the crack of dawn like I do, it makes for a pretty long day.  I guess it’s just nice to feel useful sometimes. *shrugs*

Anyways back to dnb land.  I’ve actually been listening to a lot of stuff but just haven’t written about it.  Lets get back on track Kiki!

It’s not really a secret if you know me pretty well but I do happen to have a mini obsession with r&b…  okay let’s be real, none of my obsessions are mini LOL.  I actually listen to a lot of it.  It’s my go to music if I’m not listening to electronic music, which isn’t that often, but I still keep track of most of the songs.  I am not ashamed to admit that I’ll totally listen to a bunch of bad r&b.  What can I say?  I’m a sucka for anything that’s slightly melodic.  I know I’m way more lenient if the vocal or the beat is good in r&b but I’m pretty harsh when it comes to dnb as it’s the music I listen to a majority of the time.

Anyways the tune I’m digging right now is The Dream’s – Rocking That Thang.  Love it.  I actually I’m not too obsessed with the vocal but I do like the beat a lot.  I feel like it’s begging for a dnb remix.  I can already hear it in my head.  I’ve got a little repeat action going with it right now.

I think I live in my own music world so much that I’ve got no clue if something is bad or good anymore and I also just don’t care as I’m not really forcing people to listen to what I’m listening to.  I’m pretty aware of the fact that most people think I listen to horrid music but as long as I like it that’s all that matters right?  🙂  I’m digging the video too.  Sexy.

On a completely unrelated dnb note, can I just say how much I love True Blood? Definitely my favourite show this tv season. It’s about vampires and it’s crazy and weird and all the actors on it are awesome. They call the people that like to associate with vampires fangbangers and I think that is hilarious. Good show.

Today’s Oldie: Armand Van Helden – Ain’t Armand – AV8 Records 1997 I owe Brandon for this magnificent oldie, he was the one that reminded me of it. This was one of the first records I added to my collection. It came out around the r&b dnb era. I know that there are a lot of r&b dnb tracks now but I remember back then it was like every r&b song known to man had a remix. I was super into Monica during that time and thought this track was amazing! LOL. A classic nonetheless.

I have quite the affinity towards grime. There’s something about it that is so much like my secondary school days in London that I just love it. Me and Brandon were talking about More Fire Crew’s Oi! the other day and it totally made me think of the Sway and $tush video of F Ur X that I’d been meaning to post for a while. I just kinda spaced it but I was listening to the song this morning and decided it was a proper way to start my day. 🙂

I completely fucked my leg up on my bike yesterday. I have old school pedals and it was one of the things I need to change out but haven’t gotten around to it.  Yesterday was my warning cuz I scraped the fuck out of my calf.  It went pretty deep and all the way up my leg and there was blood everywhere. It hurt pretty bad but I figured it wasn’t that big of a deal and I could moan about it for a minute but when I woke up this morning my leg is really badly bruised and very swollen and I can barely walk on it. Lame.

Overfiend is in Chicago this week. He’s playing at Seminar tonight alongside my bff Pipeline, so if you’re around you should come hang out at Lava, should be good times. 🙂

Busy work day. Hopefully I can get into the Spirit of actually being productive… yeah yeah, pun intended, sometimes it’s necesary to be silly and unfunny, you can’t be perfect all the time. 😉
