You Suck

I’m sure you are anxiously awaiting to hear how the rescue mission of my car went yesterday. Trust me it wasn’t pretty. 35 Minutes of digging and begging my car to just jump over the ice mounds surrounding it. I was covered in snow and freezing but I did it… and then it snowed last night and is still snowing right now and temperatures dropped. Nice. As I walked by my car this morning on the way to the train and saw it covered once again in mounds of snow, all I could say is “You Suck!” to the snowflakes and go on my merry way. Boo.

I am promising that this will be my last post about the snow… for now. LOL.

I’m still impatient as far as waiting for tracks to come out, but thank god they take a lot less time than they used to. I waited for this record for 2 years. Bryan G played in Minneapolis this one time and played the most amazing set. I couldnt rememember most of it but I remember when he played this track I knew I wouldn’t forget it. If you know me, you know that I am a horrible track identifier. I always get names wrong, I can’t mimic the sounds for shit. They usually only sound normal to me if I sing them. You get the picture. I asked Bryan about it and fortunately he knew what I was talking about cuz he said that LK was such a big tune that everyone always asked about it. And then I just basically waited for it to come out, and waited, and waited, and waited. A year later I came across a Hospital mix that had it on there and I just played that mix over and over and over. Finally when it came out on vinyl I was just happy to own it but of course barely played it cuz I was sick of hearing it by then. 😉 Summer anthem for sure. Loves it.

Phooey

I had a pretty low key weekend. All this snow is really getting on my fucking nerves. As I was walking to the train this morning, I looked back at my car and saw that it was surrounded by a fortress of snow. Great. It’s gonna take me like 30 minutes to shovel all that shit. Boo.

Cheap Like The Budgie

Uggg.  I got on the train this morning and completely forgot about the 50 cent fare hike.  Boo.  Is it possible for me to become more of a miser than I already am?  The city is getting expensive on the sneak tip.  10.25% tax is fucking ridiculous and $2.25 to get on the train?  Yikes.  Thank god my rent and my utilities are still on the low end.  Nothing like a monday morning gripe right?  😉

Toodloo ’08

So I made my top 25 of 2008. I feel like it’s a bit nonsense to do this because a) I cheated and just did it from May onwards cuz that’s when I started my blog and have detailed documentation of all the tracks I liked and b) I obsess over tracks so much there’s no way I like a track that I heard in May as much as I do one I like today cuz of the whole “playing on repeat constantly” factor. So this dodgy mash up top 25 will just have to do. 😉

I was going to try and pick a favourite for the number one spot but that is just utterly impossible for me. So here they are in no particular order whatsoever. Some I couldn’t track down mp3s for because they haven’t been released yet or whatever so I apologise for the lack of samples.

I hope everyone has a good New Year’s Eve. I’m just having people over my place and chillaxing. I don’t like dealing with the NYE crowd. I’m noticing that I really am slowly slipping into senior citizen status as a majority of the time I would much prefer to stay at my house and have people visit me than go out. LOL. I guess I’m just getting ready for when I get put in a nursing home.

It’s NOT Your Birthday…

I moved to Chicago 6 years ago. I was 25 and ready to party. Compared to what my life was like back then, I’m prolly the most boring person ever now. I went to school from 8 to 4. Worked at this restaurant from 5 to 1230 or 1. Partied from 130 til 330. EVERY NIGHT. This is no joke. I barely sleep as it is now but back then I don’t know how I survived cuz I really never slept. This went on for like 3 years. I met Reisha and CC at that time and we partied non stop.

One year on Reisha’s bday we went to Sonotheque. She drank a gazillion drinks and passed out in the bar, like full on sleep on one of the couches style. They kicked her out and were like tell your friend she can’t sleep in here. LOL.

Mine and Reisha’s bdays are exactly two weeks apart. We went to Sonotheque on my bday too (this was when Sonotheque was the shit and I used to go there like every week) and the bouncer looked at Reisha and was like “Remember, it’s NOT your birthday, behave yourself.” It was hilarious.

The reason that I’m telling you this story is because yesterday you would have thought it was my birthday and not Bass By The Pound’s. LOL. I had so much fun. I didn’t even get out of control drunk or anything. I just had a really good time. Everyone was in a good mood. Submorphics had a really great set. Total Science killed it. I danced a bunch. Submorphic’s buddy Sinistarr came in to town for the show and hung out. Stunna joined in the festivities too. Juju fell asleep but then woke up and showed up at Lava and I was happy she came and kicked it. Really good turn out for BBP’s anniversary. It was just an all round good night. It’s nice to drink a bunch, hang out with your friends, listen to good music, have fun and not be hungover the next day. 😉

Manic Monday

“It’s just another Manic Monday o oo o”

I loved that Bangles song. What girl in the 80s didn’t? Susanna Hoffs was the shit. Don’t get me started on Eternal Flame. LOL.

I actually had a really great weekend. A lot of hanging out went on.

Saturday I had to go to Chuck E. Cheese for my Jessica’s kid’s bday. What a nightmare that place is. My child will NEVER have a party there. The other parents kept saying to me, “this is probably making you decide you don’t want kids” but actually I wasn’t thinking that at all. The place itself was horrible not necessarily the children. Bad kids are bad because of bad parents that has nothing to do with not wanting kids. Chuck E. Cheese’s atmosphere is just chaotic on it’s own, that’s why I thought it was insane. I needed a nap after only being there for an hour and a half!

Hung out with Dan and Jay. Dan’s heading home to Romania for the holidays and I haven’t seen Jay in ages so it was nice to spend some time with them.

Hung out with Reisha, mixed a pretty nice old skool set and played with her baby.

Spent all day hanging out with Stunna yesterday after I picked him up from the airport drank and talked about dnb. I talk about Stunna a lot because he’s one of the few people that doesn’t mind rambling incessantly about dnb with me. Submorphics come in at a close second as he has become quite tolerant of my aim convos and doesn’t seem to mind keeping me company at work. LOL.

Told you a lot of hanging out went on.

Tunes:
Beatkonexion feat. Mike Romeo – Soldiers (track is in the Mike Romeo player)

Lynx & Atlantic Connection – Danger Zone (Submorphics Remix) (track is in the AC player) I didn’t really like the original of this. It was ok. The remix is dope though. Very sexy.

Today’s Oldie:
Mental PowerPurple (Barcode Remix) – Formation 1997
I had Formation Records nostalgia and mixed a little Colour Series/Country Series/VIP box set in my old skool set on saturday and was like ooh I gotta put the Purple Remix as my oldie for monday. This one goes out to my buddy Rob from my JVC crew. We were both big fans of this track.

Influenza Media keeps cranking out these mixes! I have no problem with that at all. 😉

Kiki On A Roll

I feel determined and productive and ready.  That’s a nice feeling.  It means that I will actually get things done.  I’m on a mission people.

Tunes:

Lenzman feat. Jo-SEmeralds (track is in the Lenzman player)  Everyone’s kinda been geeking about this track and I so wasn’t on the bandwagon… at first.  LOL.  The more I hear it, the more it grows on me and now I kinda love it.

Paul SG & Eros – Cape South (you can hear Cape South on Eros’s page)  Heard this one on Overfiend’s show.  Nice easy going pretty Brazilian type vibe to this tune.  I’m definitely digging it.

Today’s Oldie:

L DoubleSaturday Night Flex (Rollers Revival Remix) Labello Blanco Recordings 1997 I keep making it harder for myself every morning that I forget to look at my records and pick out an oldie.  It becomes a process and a half.  Stunna had an awesome one for me today but I couldn’t find a good sample and I at least like to have a nice mp3 to showcase these great oldies.  I finally remembered this one.  Oh I loved loved loved this tune.  Me saying I love a tune is so lame these days but I can’t help it.  I really do love dnb therefore I love all tunes obsessively until I get sick of them.  *shrugs*  Saturday Night Flex was so organically rowdy how could you not help but love it?  I remember when we had L Double come to Minneapolis and he was the coolest dude ever.  The rave was called Hijack and we had it in an airplane hanger.  I love thinking of old rave times in Mpls.  Warm memories.

I guess I’m having a Lenzman day today. 🙂  Submorphics turned me on to this mix Lenzman did for Gerard’s Drive By show on Kiss 100.  You know I enjoyed it since it has Theives In The Night on it.  I don’t have an mp3 but you can listen to the archive on the Kiss Kube for the rest of this week.

Productive Kiki

I’m on a roll people. It’s only 8:37 and I’ve already gotten a lot of shit done. That might have something to do with the fact that I’ve been up since 4:45 a.m. but still it feels good. I stayed late at work yesterday to get my work done so now I get to leave early and that has definitely put a magnificent start to my day. Yay. I’m also just really excited at the thought of not having to work for the next four days.

If you’re in Chicago tonight definitely stop by Lava! It’s gonna be a fun Seminar with Stunna, Submorphics, Radiata & Timid. D&B and Dubstep and all my friends? You don’t have to ask me twice. Black wednesday is definitely one of my favourite nights out in Chicago.

I was telling Stunna yesterday that I’ve totally been in a lazy funk. At first I was annoyed and stressed for a couple of weeks and now I’m just lazy. I decided to snap out of it yesterday and I’m in full form again. I went crazy listening to dnb and am back to full on post it note scrawled pieces of paper form. I have tracks to talk about and I actually went out. Holla.
