Yes I’m here.  Didja miss me?  Last week was hectic.  I ended up staying home for a full week.  I got a lot of essay stuff done for my masters apps.  I’m sorry I didn’t get a chance to write, but know it was cuz I was actually really busy and not just cuz I was being lazy. 🙂

Fall is upon us and it seems like my schedule keeps getting busier and busier.  I’m not complaining.  I am not a person that likes to be idle.

Last week was a good music week.  I saw Martyn in Millenium Park at the Sonar Festival which was awesome.  Falty DL and Marcel Dettmann performed at the Smart Bar after parties.  Mixed at a dnb rave.  Really good times.  Plastician is this week.  As an electronic music enthusiast, I really can’t complain much these days. 🙂

So the past couple days I’ve been in straight party mode.  That’s what summer is about I guess, right?  I’m the brokest person out there but I still manage to have my fun without actually having money to spend.  LOL.

Me and Daniela went to see Skream and 12th Planet on sunday at Green Dolphin and that party was awesome.  Rusko was still around from Lollapalooza so he and Skream tagteamed.  Really good time.

I had such a  fun time at the dubstep show that I’m gonna post a dubstep mix today instead of a dnb one. 🙂

Championship Kiki

So World Cup final is this weekend.  I go back to my regular life of being unemployed and just working at Smallbar once a week.  I’m kinda happy for it to be over.  I’m ready to move on to new adventures in my life.

Did I tell you I was going back to school?  I don’t remember.  I try and limit the stuff I write here cuz I know not everybody is that interested in my life.  LOL.  I used to have another blog many years ago on Livejournal and after 8 years of writing in it I decided that there was way too much information about my deep thoughts that people could care less about so I created this dnb one where I write mini paragraphs instead of pages upon pages about my inner dialogue.

Anyways I’m going back to school.  I’m applying for January semester.  I guess I need to use this time to find another job so I can afford my life while in school.  I’m okay with looking for more bar jobs cuz they are easy jobs to have while being a student.  Now that I have a new focus, the salaried/benefit job isn’t necessarily my main goal anymore, school is.   So I have no qualms about going back to service industry for 2 years until I finish my program and then take it from there.  Woot.

I just loaded new mixes on my ipod and haven’t listened to them yet so I don’t really have any new tunes for you.  Look on the bright side though, next week I’ll be back to writing every day since World Cup will be over. 🙂

I’m djing at an art show that my friend Allie is putting on with her friends.  I’ll be mixing an hour of UK Garage and an hour of dnb.  If you’re in Chi come check it out.

I had a pretty fun holiday weekend.  Me and Daniela kept each other company and it ended up being really nice even though our hood was really a ghost town.

Packed weekend  coming up.  I’m mixing at an art show on friday (will post details on that as we get closer), our friends John and Journy have their wedding reception, my niece’s baptism and of course World Cup final.  I get to see my family this weekend which is always awesome.

Mix recaps…  I love that Asides Knowledge Promo Mix.  Asides has been killing.  I know that mix was a while ago (a while in mixland anyways) but I haven’t changed the mixes on my ipod in a minute.  Awesome tunes, awesome mixing per usual.  Wouldn’t expect anything less from Mr. Cambridge. 🙂

Even though Juju tried to hate on me, I didn’t forget you.  (<3 you Juju)  I have been in World Cup mania at work.  It’s actually kind of fun but at the same time everything is a blur.  I am so excited to have today off.  I don’t get to relax or anything.  I’m basically using this day to do all the things that I haven’t gotten to do in the past week.  Did you see that Italy match yesterday?  Awesome.  Buh bye Italy!  I’m so excited to get into some more good football watching.  This weekend’s games are going to be wicked too.  Meh I sound like a nerd.  Lets move on to some dnb.

My buddy Stunna is having a show this weekend.  You can see me, Grand Marquee, Alfonz De La Mota, Midway and Place 42 play at an all dnb gig this saturday June 26.  Yes I repeat Chicago another all dnb gig.  I know these are so few and far between that we’ve forgotten what they are but I’m so excited to hang out with my friends, play some music and listen to some dnb.  I miss that so much.  If you’re in Chi please come and hang out with us.  It’s going to be lovely. 🙂

I’ve been listening to some awesome mixes at the gym and on my walks to work.  Thank god for Bassdrive.  I don’t have as much time to search for new mixes so I just download an archive and I’m good to go.  Lots of good tunes out as usual.  I’ve been hearing some pretty wicked darker/rowdier ones that I’ve been digging…  Yes you heard correctly,  Liquid Funk Kiki is digging more and more rowdy tunes. *shrugs*  What can I say, I’m not laying around my flat pondering my life as much anymore so a rowdy tune here and there while on the go definitely gets me excited.  😉

I hope I get a chance to write again soon but I can’t guarantee it.  I have a long stretch coming up with no days off again for a minute.  We’ll see.

I was hunting around for some samples for some of my tunes, and I came across this amazing Mashed in Plastic compilation /mashup with david lynch film and tv scores, dialogue from the films, and music. It’s amazing..I borrowed the intro which is in the podkast. Happy Kiki

I had a pretty fun weekend.  Went to see Kode 9 on friday and he killed it.  Flying Lotus… meh.  I left during his set cuz it sounded really bad.  Maybe they didn’t do a sound check for him or something cuz it was muddy and horrible sounding.  Kode 9 was so awesome though and I’m glad I got to see his whole set. The place was insanely packed.  I hadn’t been to a show at the Double Door in ages.  It was a glimpse into how summertime is in the Chi and I love it.  That’s the thing about living in the midwest, the winters are annoyingly depressing and the summers are amazing, so everyone pretty much spends their time just waiting for summer to show face.

Saturday was the Pendulum show.  Hmmm.  I am extremely too old to party with 18 year olds.  I knew that already.  LOL.  The show itself was good in terms of turn out and everyone was having fun.  I just have a hard time partying with young people.  I’ve accepted my geriatric status and I’m happy with it.  I like hanging out with people my own age. 🙂

Still Grey is still one of my favourite dnb tracks but the rest of the stuff Pendulum was playing is just not my alley. The kiddies love it though so I’m not going to hate.  To each his own right?

Sunday I just kicked it at home and it was so nice to relish in the quiet since the capoeira folks decided to take the weekend off with their incessant drumming.  Best Easter I’ve had yet!

All in all fun times.

So me and Daniela went to see Caspa at Smart Bar yesterday.  I like dubstep.  I don’t listen to it as much as dnb but I do enjoy the genre and all its sub categories.  Yesterday I was up for some rowdy party dubstep.  Apparently no one told me and Daniela that it was a 22 year olds only party.  LOL.  I don’t know why I keep being surprised every time I go to his shows.  He has a huge following.  He’s totally grabbed the new ravers crowd.  Me and Daniela were some of the oldest people there.  These kids love him.  Camera phones, autographs, etc.  It’s awesome.  I love watching it but at the same time it’s definitely a reminder that we are old.  It was seriously like a rave in there except we were in a club and it’s 2010.  I had fun nonetheless.  Caspa is  a good dj.  Good times.

CC has left the building, I repeat, CC has left the building.  Man, it was really awesome to have her here.  I definitely had a fun filled jam packed crazy 5 days.  Now back to my regular, boring, serious life where I have no job and have to get one ASAP.  Boo.

Shakedown is tonight with Tyler Straub.  Can you say woot?  Beatchemist is in town and Dave Owen is supposed to be coming too.  Can you say woot squared?  I have been missing in action from my drum and bass posse for almost a month.  I feel this is the perfect opportunity to make my comeback.  Woot cubed???  Ok…. definitely taking it too far.  😉

Carpal Tunnel Kiki

I have developed carpal tunnel syndrome.  Boo.  It is actually more painful and annoying than I had imagined it would be.  I could whine forever but I’ll spare you.

I actually had a pretty good weekend.   Friday was Bass Goes Boom’s second anniversary and 16 Bit were the headliners.  Party boys indeed.  Good times.

Saturday I reconnected with my old old friend as she was passing through Chicago.  I hadn’t seen her in years.  The best friendships are definitely the ones where even though you may not see each other all the time, you are still able to pick up as if you just saw each other the day before. 🙂

Sunday I spent bumming around with Reisha and Jessica.  Had some drinks, made some food, got a cute clutch at this vintage sale.  Perfectly lazy yet pleasant day.

My L.A. trip is this week.  I’m happy  to get out of Chi.  I keep having the urge to just go on holiday.  Who cares where!  I just want to travel.  I’m obviously just restless.

Today’s Oldie: Everything But The Girl – Blame (J Majik Remix) – Virgin 1999 I can tell you where I lost every record I’ve ever lost. LOL. The whole losing of the record is always so traumatic for me (god I love to exaggerate) that I remember the moment like it was yesterday. I love this remix. Like love love love it. It just evoked such a happy warm feeling that I always got excited when it came on. I loved the Everything But The Girl original and I just think that J Majik did a lovely job with the remix. I mixed at this huge new years eve party that year. It was about to be ’00 and the party was just insane.  I had a blast but there was seriously like 12 of us mixing from around 9pm to about 6am and all our records got mixed together due to the debauchery that was taking place. I’m usually pretty anal about watching over my records but these were all my really close friends so I was kinda lax about putting them away. When i got home the next evening, yes next evening, LOL, I was putting my records away and that record was nowhere to be found. It was part of a remix LP and I only had the other record with the other remixes that I didn’t like on it. Boo. I remember hounding Jimmy about whether or not he’d seen it and was so gutted. Lame. I know one of my friends probably has it but their record collections were all ridiculously huge and there wasn’t really any intense hunting going on to find it. I couldn’t find another copy of it around that time and just was so bummed. I had actually forgotten about it until today. I just found a copy online and bought it. Yay. This oldies section is doing wonders for replenishing my record collection. 😉
