I heart vinyl. The digital age is so in charge though and I’m finding that I keep missing out on awesome tracks that were on released on the cd only. So sad. I was listening to this mix and I heard a Logistics tune that is just so pretty. I asked Stunna (my dnb encyclopedia) and he said it only came out on the cd. The same thing happened with Amaning’s Tranquility. Another really awesome track that’s actually kinda old that I totally slept on cuz I was too busy trying to get the vinyl. 😦

Oh well. It’s taken me a while, (everything takes me a while cuz I’m a late larry) but I guess I’ll have to start checking out cds too. I don’t think I’ve actually bought a cd in at least 6 years.

I really don’t pay attention to what’s going on around me. I’m pretty sure that’s what aids my clumsiness but with the help of my ipod I tend to find it really easy to ignore everything. Everday life is pretty distracting! I was just noticing that this morning as I walked to the train without my ipod. 😦

It’s very strange that reading a book doesn’t seem to deter people from talking to you. Only one person bothered me this morning so it wasn’t that bad. 🙂

I don’t understand how the days go by so quickly. I swear it was just yesterday I was bitching about how long I had to wait for it to be friday and now friday is tomorrow already.

I’m kinda sleepy and I think I had one too many martinis yesterday. Who in their right mind drinks martinis on a wednesday??  Me I guess.  I was just kinda bored with my vodka tonics and decided to spice it up.

I heard a bunch of jams on bassdrive yesterday but I was kinda busy as I was listening and didn’t write any of them down and therefore cannot report on them. Lame.

Sorry this post is so boring. I’m using all my energy to try and keep awake.

So I lost my ipod yesterday. I’m pretty bummed. I’m actually surprised that I had it for 2 years without breaking it or losing it. You will be missed my little friend. The shuffle is pretty cheap so I guess I will invest in a new one. Like I’ve said before, I’m not really that into gadgets and what not so I don’t need a fancy pants 32GB Ipod Touch. I just need to have it to make sure people don’t talk to me on public transportation and to work out with. *sigh*

Three people talked to me on the train this morning already… “What’s that you’re reading there?” “Heading to work?” “I see you on the train all the time, do you work downtown?” My ipod’s hasn’t even been gone for 24 hours yet and already people are harassing me. People think I’m joking when I say there’s something about me that makes people find it necessary to strike up mindless banter with me but my friend got to witness it in the flesh the other day and was like “Do you know that person?” and I was like of course not. As long as I don’t have my headphones on people will talk to me. Guaranteed.

I don’t get paid til next week and I’m one of those annoying people that sticks to a budget plan. I will not spend willy nilly to ameliorate this problem. I’ll buy my new ipod next week. So, sorry to say that you will probably have to hear stories of annoying people talking to me on the train up until next friday.  I’ll try to keep the whinging to a minimum.

*sigh* END OF RANT (As you can tell from this endless chatter this is something that is the bane of my existence)

Moving on… I know I wrote about this the other day but seriously if you haven’t listened to that Patife mix you’re a fool I tell you, a fool (said in a voice like those overly dramatic actresses from those black and white movies from the early 1940s). It’s seriously just 2 hours of summery bliss. Dope. I’m listening to it right now, again, on my computer of course, since my ipod is gone… (pause for a moment to remember the good times with my old friend)

If someone told me I couldn’t be overly dramatic I would probably die. 🙂

Yikes! Did you see this? Congo Natty Presents – Most Wanted Vol. 1LP

The track Code Red is on there. Awesome. That’s where I got my dj name from. Code Red was actually the first jungle record I ever bought. At the time I was super club girl raver. I was never a candy raver. No fat pants, glowsticks or candy necklace/bracelets for me but I did wear knee high socks and pigtails on the regular and I was obsessed, with the colour navy blue. I had these patent leather navy blue vans that I wore all the time and I painted my nails this deep glitter navy blue. I had blue baubles like I used to wear when I was 3 in my pigtailed braids and I had a navy blue technics record bag. Think of Rainbow Brite (sort of) but in all navy blue instead of an array of colours from the rainbow. Dang… yes that vision requires a “dang.” Anyways when I was attempting to come up with a dj name I just figured my first record was significant enough so I got rid of the red and added blue. Voila.

Some dope classics on that LP. Definitely a must have if your Congo Natty selection is thin.

So I’m a bad dnb girl.  I didn’t exactly make it out to the last Dynamite.  Word on the street is Klute rocked the house.  I had some family stuff so it was a no go.  I’m not gonna sweat it.  Definite signs of becoming a senior citizen are not really feeling like  I missed out when I don’t go to a show.  When I was younger I used to feel like my life was “totally over” if I missed an event.  I of course chalk that up to being an utterly dramatic teenager.  Now I’m just like if I was supposed to be there I would have been.  End of story.  Am I a hater if I say I’m not really too sad about Dynamite?  Probably.  I just have way way more fun at Seminar usually.  As long as they don’t get rid of that I’ll be fine.  *shudder*  If they get rid of Seminar then my life really would be over…  I told you it was fun to be overly dramatic every once in a while. 🙂

I’ve been listening to that Patife mix I posted the other day.  Talk about lovely summer vibes indeed.  If you haven’t listened to it yet you totally should give it a listen.  Lots of outdoor jams on there.  What’s an outdoor jam you ask?  Well any track that makes you wanna lay in the sand and drink colourful drinks with umbrellas in it.  The pic to the right is where I would be drinking these drinks.

I was talking with Stunna this morning and we were talking about our summer anthems.  I don’t feel like there’s any significant major release so far like there usually is every summer but for me I would definitely say mine was Stunna & Tyler Straub’s Weak.  I feel horrible that I don’t have a sample for you but if you do manage to track it down you won’t be disappointed.  SWV dammit!  You can’t go wrong there.  I also really like Tyler Straub’s Easy Does It (the track is in his music player) and a new addition is Skyform’s Hanging (the track is also in the music player).  They just give me the exact vibe that I like to have when it’s nice and sunny out.

Well it’s monday.  I should at least pretend that I’m starting out the week with the mindset of being the perfect employee. 🙂  We’ll see how long that lasts.  I’m already eagerly awaiting the weekend cuz I’m going to see my mum and I haven’t seen her in ages so I’m excited to go kick it with her.  My mum is actually really fun to hang out with so that’s always something to look forward to.

I’ve mentioned before that I work six days a week.  I’m quitting my second job in September and to be honest I can’t wait.  It seems like I look so forward to the weekends as it is that anxiously awaiting my free day on Sundays just isn’t cutting it anymore.  Anyways it’s Friday.  Yay.  Thank god.

I’ve surprisingly been listening to a lot of non dnb the past couple of days.  I’ve been hearing really good tracks on 1xtra and I’ve got $50 in itunes gift cards leftover from my side hustle, so I just keep downloading track after track.  Some of my current faves?

Nas feat. Keri Hilson – Hero – I really like the beat.  I’m not much of a word smith.  I appreciate people who rhyme and what not but I definitely will pay more attention to what your saying if there’s a good beat behind it.  Nas is pretty dope too so it’s a win win.

Common feat. Pharrell – Universal Mind Control – Everyone’s hating on this track but I like it.   I never was really a huge Common fan, but I’ve started to love the stuff he’s put out within the last year.

The Clipse – 20k Money Making Brothers – I just love the Clipse point blank period.  Like I said before, I don’t really pay much attention to many rappers but these dudes are fucking awesome.  This song is older but I just decided to download it the other day cuz I felt like listening to it.  They have a new one out called Fast Life that is cool but I like this 20k better.

Paleface feat. Kyla – Do You Mind (Crazy Cousinz Remix) – The Paleface original is a bit too ravey for me but this Crazy Cousinz remix is so sultry. The beat is just sexy as hell and the vocal is too.

There’s more.  I just don’t feel like listing them all.  I want to go home cuz I’m bored and tired and it’s only 12:55.  Boo. 😦

I am excited to listen to this Patife mix though.

They claim it’s going to be 90 degrees tomorrow. We’ll see. Usually, the thing I love about Chicago summers is that it’s so ridiculously hot that everyone is like yeah I’ll meet you there, yeah I’ll go to that, cuz it’s so fucking hot you can’t stand to be in your house. Well here we are in July and that still hasn’t happened yet. Lame.

I have become a full on senior citizen. I feel like all I do is talk about the weather, (see paragraph above and numerous entries before this one for examples) try and go to bed by 10, complain about younger kids playing ding dong ditch with my buzzer (there’s a school down the street), and reminisce about when I was younger. 🙂 Doesn’ t that mean I should get to ride public transportation for cheaper??

Been having a dance party, by myself of course, ever since I played that 2step/Garage set on July 4. I’ve been listening to Shanks & Bigfoot on repeat also. *sigh* The good old days… (old lady phrase alert!)

Lets switch it up and listen to some dubstep. Rinse FM is great for that. 🙂

Remember that skit on In Living Colour where the  Jamaican family was alwaysWanda complaining about how their kids didn’t have enough jobs?  Then Damon Wayans would yell “You lazy lima bean!?”  Today, I’m definitely the lazy lima bean.  I have a ton of boring shit that needs to be done and I’m sure as hell not doing it. 😉  Here’s a gratuitous pic of Wanda just cuz she was one of my fave characters on that show… “You aint got to go nowhere!!  I got you!  I got you!”

My friend CC is going away for the next couple of months.  She has to go train people at the new location of her job out in Tahoe.  It would be kinda awesome to pick up from your life and just go do shit for a couple of months and get paid for it.

I had a pretty nice weekend. I mixed at a bbq. Did a 2 hour 2step/garage set which was super fun. I haven’t played those records in ages.

Why is it July l already? Where is this summer going?

Klute is playing at the last Dynamite this weekend. He is always a treat. He’s an awesome dj.

Picked up my Zero T album the other day. Get yours! – I think I’ve talked about Zero T more than any other person in my blog since I started writing it… He should make me his p.r. person! 😉
