So…  I lost my job yesterday.  Hmmm.  I probably should be a lot more freaked out.  I’m surprisingly not disturbed.  I got a pretty decent severance package.  My bills are paid up.  *shrugs*  I kinda don’t know what else to say.  I’m not sad.  I liked working there but definitely had no aspirations to be a Workers’ Comp  legal assistant for the rest of my life so I guess that’s why I’m not devastated or anything.  It was just a job that paid my bills and let me dick around on the internet all day.  I know the economy is still shit so that should be worrying me but I guess I’m optimistic that something will come along.

I kept saying to myself that I felt a big change coming.  There were too many big events happening in my life for something drastic not to happen.  Roomate moving out etc.  I guess I didn’t think it would be my job though, I felt it would be something more on the mental outlook front.

I don’t have any hard feelings about it.  There weren’t that many new cases coming in.  I was the last one hired so I had to be the first to go.  I am going to miss listening to Bassdrive all day though. 😉

I’m going to Minneapolis today.  I guess I’ll have more of a handle on things when I get back on Monday.

No posts Friday or Monday.  We’ll chat more Tuesday.

I cleaned out my car yesterday. Well attempted to. What a bloody nightmare! My car isn’t really messy to be honest, it’s just overridden with scratched cd after scratched cd. I decided it was time to get rid of the ones I can’t play so they aren’t just rattling around in my car. Unfortunately I’m still attached to a lot of the cds so I can’t really say that my mission was that successful.

I can’t believe it has taken me this long to put this track in my oldies section. This is seriously one of my most favourite tracks ever. I know that I love to exaggerate but I’m pretty serious when I say this. I coveted this tune for a year before it actually got released. No matter what I always get excited to hear it. I think it’s really pretty and still makes me want to dance when it comes on and I still have constant repeat sessions with it. I think it’s just a very “me” tune and that’s probably why I love it so much.

It’s Dr. Dre’s bday today. So what you say? LOL. My best friend and his friends used to do this graffiti magazine called Life Sucks Die. They would frequently have random articles, crossword puzzles etc. that discussed the awesomeness that is Dr. Dre. It was pretty funny. Seven years ago they decide they would have a party on his bday. The idea itself is pretty dope. They had The Chronic cut outs that you could put your face in and take pics, they had 40s for everyone to drink  and also did a $20 sack pyramid game show. The party became such a hit that they started doing it every year. Last year Dre actually knew about the party cuz Arabian Prince played the 2008 installment and told him about it. Now Burlesque Design decided to branch out and have Dre Day parties all over. This year they are doing one in Chicago too. I think that if you aren’t familiar with these Minneapolis dudes the idea itself seems pretty nutso but it’s awesome. I don’t mean to be a skeptic but I don’t know if the Chicago one can live up to the caliber that is the Minneapolis legacy. I’m going anyways just for the hell of it. Should be fun. Happy Bday Dr. Dre. 🙂

I’m having a pretty great morning so that makes it even more exciting that it’s friday.  It’s stopped being freezing and it’s kinda warm outside, which is also lovely… You know you’re a Midwesterner when you think its warm when it’s still only 30 degrees.

I’m feeling awfully scatterbrained this morning and for some reason the word scatterbrained brings Worzel Gummidge to mind… Don’t ask me why, it just does.

It’s the weekend. Another day of being busy at work. I’m listening to Spinn but too busy to actually talk in the chat room. Boo.

I can’t find my list of tracks that I was gonna talk about which is weird because it’s always next to my computer which also probably means I probably accidentally threw it away yesterday. See what I mean, scatterbrained.

Today’s Oldie: Dj Trace – Mutant Revisited – Emotif Records 1996 Woh! This track is so sick. I used to be part of a dj crew in Minneapolis called JVC. Minneapolis is mostly a techno and house city but for a little while in the late 90’s JVC helped bring jungle/drum n bass to the peeps. It was a pretty cool time. We had this ridiculously amazing rave called Murderapolis. The whole Formation crew was on tour and they headlined the rave. It was so fucking fun. Seriously. To have all those people show up for a dnb rave and have it be such a success was really great. Dj SS opened up his set with this track and seriously everyone just lost their minds. Big up Trace. Good times.

Hopefully my awesome oldie makes up for me not having any tracks to talk about.

I Want That New New Ish!

I won’t lie, I get very disgruntled when I don’t have a decent amount of new records to play when I mix out. Between being busy and not being rich and there not being a ton of records that have been released (of course all my favourites are unreleased dubs) that I felt like I needed to own, I find myself salty that I don’t have a satisfactory amount of new records that I can play at my gig on wednesday. Lame.

On the mix forefront though, I have some really awesome ones that I am still listening to. That Brother one is fucking awesome. So many amazing tracks. Shouts to Moonbay, I too am still listening to the Methodus. 🙂 That Paul Reset is on heavy rotation and the Numeral is just lovely. Basically I raved out in my house to dnb the entire weekend. Laundry and cleaning a messy room are a pleasure when you have a good mix to listen to.

I was so busy the last couple of days that I didn’t post an oldie. I reckon today’s one has to be dope to make up for it. 😉

I’m a wee bit crabby today. Boo. 😦

Too much annoying work and I sure as hell don’t feel like doing it, which is just pathetic since it’s only tuesday. Boo squared.

I am really looking forward to this weekend though. It’s my friend Jessica’s 30th bday and a bunch of our friends from Minneapolis are coming for the weekend. Jessica is one of my oldest and dearest friends. She was my old roomate when I lived in Minneapolis and she moved to Chicago the year after I did. I think it was a bonus for me because I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t have settled in as easily to my Chicago lifestyle if I hadn’t had someone that was a good friend that knew me really well to kick it with while I went on my quest to meet new people.

I’m quite fond of my friends. Five of them from Minneapolis are coming up for the weekend and they are both mine and Jessica’s mutual really good friends. I know it sounds dumb and corny to talk about how much you appreciate your friends, but as you get older it’s a lot harder to make new friends. I’ve had the same tight knit group of friends for 11 to 12 years. They aren’t acquaintances who I just see out. They are genuine people who have been a part of my life consistently and actually care about what happens to me. I thought that everyone had those go to people that they rely on no matter what but I’m discovering that that isn’t really always the case and therefore I am very grateful for my friends. The key test to friendship is when you have significantly big changes in your life, whether or not those people continue to be your friends. Be it having a child, moving to a different state or getting married. All three of these things have happened to our group of friends and our friendships are still in tact and still as strong. I’m quite fortunate that I met some really great people once I moved to Chicago too and have added them to my little group. I hope others have the same luck I do cuz honestly, there’s nothing better than having great friends. 🙂

I heard some new Hospital Records stuff that wasn’t really my cup of tea. Bah, I think I might just not be that into the direction they are heading these days. No harm done. Not every sound is gonna please everyone. it’s still a pretty good label regardless.

Part one of Redeyes’ LP is out on promo. I really like the Conart track. I can’t say I’m really into that Deeizm track. I think she’s a really great emcee but I kinda get annoyed when the vocals tend to dominate a whole track unless your Diane Charlemagne or something. Yeah I’m a picky bitch. Whatever.

Is that the plural of tracheotomy?  Well whatever it is I need one.  My throat is totally wack right now.  I never get sick and I feel like I’ve been poorly on and off for the past month or so.  Extremely lame.

I’m totally swamped at work and have been looking for things to do to procrastinate cuz I’m feeling too whiny to work but I can’t even get into the Bassdrive chat room which sucks cuz Overfiend is totally killing it right now and I would love to add my 2cents and waste the day away bantering with Ju Ju. 😦 (wow.  awesome run on sentence.)

I guess I’ll just be a good worker and complain about my throat to myself.
