I’m making an executive decision and doing my end of year top tracks today.Β I’m going to Philly today and then I’m not taking my laptop with me to NY tomorrow so that really leaves me no time to write.
Here is my repeat of end of year disclaimers…
My list is always going to be kinda bogus.Β LOL.Β The tunes I blogged about towards the end of the year are still fresh in my mind and therefore get more attention than the ones I blogged about back in the beginning of the year cuz I’m not sick of hearing them yet.Β The list is in no particular order.Β I have been told that I have strange taste in some dnb track so my list means absolutely nothing.Β It’s just a compilation of songs that I personally liked over 2009.Β We also must take into account that the latter half of the year I wasn’t as diligent about writing tracks down due to the loss of my job so I’m not as up on new tunes as I used to be.Β This list is just of tracks that I would have been happy to keep on my ipod for the past 365 days.
End of disclaimer. π
I mulled over my list for ages.Β I started out with 70 tracks and could only cut it down to 30 this year.Β LOL.Β I really tried to narrow it to at least 20 but I really like all the tracks on the list, so 30 it is.Β Eek.Β This will be a long post. π
I used to be part of this 2step/UK Garage crew called Steppers Alliance when I lived in Minneapolis.Β It was pretty awesome.Β It was at the height of UK Garage’s introduction into the U.S.Β On Halloween this year in Minneapolis there is a party and they are going to have a 2step/Garage stage.Β They have asked Steppers Alliance to reunite and play.Β They are flying me back to play which is great.Β I’m pretty excited.Β I think that any day where you get to hear old skool 2step/Garage out loud is dope.Β π
4/4 (Mike) comes today.Β Let the countdown to Matt Martin wedding extravaganza begin.Β Woot.
Tunes: Kjell – Lincoln Place (track is in player) Stunna played this on his Bassdrive show yesterday.Β I always love Kjell.Β This track is so pretty. β€
Today’s Oldie: Ed Rush & Optical feat. Fierce – Alien Girl – Prototype Recordings 1998
I really miss dancefloor bangers.Β I should rephrase that.Β I really miss these type of dancefloor bangers.Β I know that there are tracks today that people consider bangers but they just aren’t up my alley.Β The type that made everyone want to dance not just a chosen few.Β Classic track.Β Love it.

I don’t really have much to babble about these days.
I feel like maybe I’m way to scatterbrained about getting ready to jet outta town.
I’m running around like Taz, that’s his name right? I’m prone to accidentally deciding things are a certain way so I wouldn’t be surprised if I’m wrong and I’m also too lazy to look it up. Basically I keep whirring from place to place and spouting random nonsense. LOL.
I can’t believe how excited I am to see my family. They are dope.
Tunes:
There’s a couple of tracks I’ve really wanted to write about but I don’t have samples and I know that’s annoying but today I’m going to write about them anyways.
Random Movement – RM is killing it these days. Seriously. My fave song right now is Used Illusions. I’ve been coveting it for a couple of weeks and I hear it all the time on Bassdrive. So so so good. Tune in, I’m sure someone will play it or better yet check out his show, wednesdays 5 – 7pm cst. Also Smooth Transitions is fresh and I’m loving Revealed.
Today’s Oldie: Remarc – R.I.P. – Suburban Base Records 1995
I figured this would be a fitting oldie. I can’t remember if I wrote about this already, I’m sure I did, but whatever, anyways, in my mother’s Sierra Leone culture we celebrate every 5 years after someone dies. My stepfather died around xmas 5 years ago so there’s a huge ceremony this year. I’m kinda into this idea of remembering a loved one cuz it’s not morbid at all. We have a ceremony where everyone tells their favourite stories about the person that has past and then there’s a huge party. It’s pretty fun. Classic dnb tune. Going out to my stepdad.
Already listened to this mix from Offshore’s Dj Clever. Good ish.
It’s wednesday. My mum is coming this weekend. There’s kind of a lotta things going on around me that are pretty major. We’ll see how they pan out.
Love these tunes:
Ed Oberon – Kid Rio This track is out of control. I love it. I heard it in the mix on Tyler’s show and it was fire. Check it out, it’s in the player.
Kjell – Healing ProcessLovin this one. Really great bassline. I feel like Kjell’s tracks have a distinct style, not quite sure how to describe it but whatever it is I like it.
Tyler Straub – Waiting For You I had actually meant to write about this track when I heard it on Bassdrive about a month ago but I really wanted to wait til I had a sample to share with you. It has this really serene melodic vibe that is just awesome. Not only do I have a sample but it’s actually available as a free download from the Santorin site. Now that is pretty cool. π
Today’s Oldie – Roni Size – Watching Windows (Ed Rush & Optical Remix) – Talking Loud 1998 All my oldie favourites seem to be by the same artists. LOL. Seriously though, I do remember from about ’95 to about ’00 I could always rely on the same labels and the same artists for my tracks. They were the ones doing the best stuff and others couldn’t even really come close. This remix is ridiculously wonderful. I love the idea of a remix. I’m always curious to see what someone else would do with a track. The Ed Rush and Optical spin is just lovely. Classic track.
Man I need to get out of this lazy mode I’m in. Boo.
Daniela is taking me out for a bday dinner today night since she couldn’t make it out to the party last week. I’m always excited about hanging out with Daniela and a nice meal is a bonus too.
Hot tracks:
Kjell – The Dynamic Heard this on Methodus’s show last week. The tune is just fire. Watch out for it. I don’t have a sample but definitely check out the other stuff in his player.
Command Strange – Time I like a lot of Command Strange’s tracks. He just keeps pumping them out. Big up Kazakhstan! Again no sample but I really do recommend checking out the other tracks in his player.
Seeing as I forgot to post an oldie yesterday, I will be delighting you with not one, but two blasts from the past today! I know you can barely handle the excitement.
Oldie #1: Alex Reece feat. Deborah Anderson – Feel The Sunshine – Blunted Vinyl 1995 Jazz step, what what!! I can guarantee you that I had many a makeout session to this track. Deborah Anderson’s voice is so sultry. Alex Reece tracks are sick.
This video is awesome. It could just as well be Diddy up there instead of Skibba. LOL. All dnb party jams should have videos in my opinion. To me this track is a total banger and it’s a bonus that it’s really fun to mix too.
There’s a ton of good downloads around at the moment. I can’t believe I’m actually having problems deciding what to post. I guess Seba wins. Seba is dope so he’ll always win.
01. seba & paradox feat robert manos – stone cold – paradox music
02. seba – special ops – combination records
03. commix – painted smile – ?
04. seba & krazy – inkasso – secret operations
05. seba feat Krister Linder – Blaze and fade out – combination records
06. seba & krazy – Imperial moment – Metalheadz
07. seba & paradox – as if – secret operations dub
08. alix perez – crooklyn – soul:r
Not feeling too well.Β I really think my bouts with sickness might have something to do with my office. Before I started working here I really was one of those people that never got sick and all of a sudden I find myself being poorly quite frequently.
I had a good weekend.Β It was nice to see my friends.Β Jess’s party was cool.
I’m having a pretty blah day.Β I’m sure it has to do with the rain and the feeling sick etc.
I was listening to Decem’s “Don’t Sleep” (track is in the player) this morning.Β Still really digging that track.Β It gets stuck in my head on the regular.
I was pretty excited when I saw this Randall mix.Β Someone on the Breaksblog board made a comment about not hearing a mix of Randall’s without an MC.Β It’s so true!Β I think the last time I heard a mix of his with no MC was back in the late ’90s. LOL.
Well the three day weekend starts for me as soon as I get out from behind this desk. I’m pretty swamped so I kinda don’t really have time to write. Pipeline played this Lynx tune Distance Zero yesterday that I’m loving and I also heard this Kjell tune on Will Miles show this morning called Promise to Lose that was quite the banger. (sorry no sample)
