90’s R&B is where it’s at yo. So many good tunes. I remember being soooo obsessed with Jodeci. Really though, who wasn’t back then? I woke up this a.m. wanting to listen to Jodeci, but it’s too slow to make me run on the treadmill, so Alix Perez and Specific’s “Love Bug” was just as satisfying. 😆

Too Much Alix Is Never Enough
I remember when I first became obsessed with Alix Perez. It was this collab that he did with Specific called Lovebug back in like 2004 or 2005 I think. I was starting to ween away from my angry noisy dnb phase and full on becoming obsessed with liquidy, melodic goodness, also anyone who is gonna sample Jodeci is #1 in my book. 😉
I still appreciate all the other dnb genres but I think that liquid funk is the soundtrack to my soul… dramatic much? LOL. Really though, it never ceases to brighten up my day. Hearts all around.
Really loving this bassline to Playing Games.
Fantastic Kiki

This was one of my favourite books as a kid. I guess they are making a movie about it. Since I was a child a very… very long time ago and have not really heard anything about the book since, it does seem a bit odd that they would make a movie, but what do I know.
I play word association when I try and think of titles for my posts. I feel fantastic and that made me think of Fantastic Mr. Fox… just in case you were wondering, which I’m sure you weren’t.
Why do I feel fantastic? Well, I had a pretty awesome weekend. All the things you would like your weekend to be is exactly what mine was: New people, check… Good music, check… Numerous activities, check… the list goes on. Do Division was fun. There were so many people there. Good times had all round. I am hoping that my summer will be filled with weekends like this one.

Guess Who?
Yes I’m here. I was so swamped at work yesterday I couldn’t even write in my blog and you know how that messes with my OCD mind. Argggh. My boss has a lot of cases up this month so I’m surprisingly busy. It doesn’t bother me cuz I don’t mind the work but it definitely is a switch up cuz I usually have a pretty leisurely day balancing my work and playing online. 😉
Tunes:
B-complex – Raindrops (track is in player)
I just love B-complex tunes.

Definitely not that old but I was thinking about Jodeci this morning for some unknown reason and it made me think of this tune since the sample is in it. God I used to love Jodeci! R&B baby making music at its best! LOL. Anyways, I like Alix Perez and Specific together.

Toodloo ’08
So I made my top 25 of 2008. I feel like it’s a bit nonsense to do this because a) I cheated and just did it from May onwards cuz that’s when I started my blog and have detailed documentation of all the tracks I liked and b) I obsess over tracks so much there’s no way I like a track that I heard in May as much as I do one I like today cuz of the whole “playing on repeat constantly” factor. So this dodgy mash up top 25 will just have to do. 😉
I was going to try and pick a favourite for the number one spot but that is just utterly impossible for me. So here they are in no particular order whatsoever. Some I couldn’t track down mp3s for because they haven’t been released yet or whatever so I apologise for the lack of samples.
Top 25
01. Calibre – Alone In A Crowd
02. Blame – Stay Forever
03. Q Project – Tears – Marky & Bungle Remix
04. Dan Marshall – Words Can’t Explain (no sample)

25. S.P.Y. – Seeing Through Shadows
I hope everyone has a good New Year’s Eve. I’m just having people over my place and chillaxing. I don’t like dealing with the NYE crowd. I’m noticing that I really am slowly slipping into senior citizen status as a majority of the time I would much prefer to stay at my house and have people visit me than go out. LOL. I guess I’m just getting ready for when I get put in a nursing home.
Blame – ESP Mix December 2008
(no tracklist)
Rowdy Kiki
I’m starting to feel a bit cooped up. I feel like I haven’t been to a good dnb show in a hot minute. I’m probably just exaggerating but it really does feels like I haven’t been to a really fun show in a long time. We’ll have to fix that.
Hot Choons:
Radiohead v. Unknown Artist – Idiohead Remix
Specific – Out Of Reach (Track is in the player)
Today’s Oldie: Shy FX feat. Gunsmoke – Gangsta Kid – S.O.U.R 1993 Oh man. Amazing. The skit in the beginning of this is priceless. I remember listening to this on the regular. This is even before I started mixing. My jungle collection basically consisted of Kool FM tapes and these random jungle CD compilations. This track was on every compilation. It was so representative of the jungle rudebwoy culture and I love that ragga jungle vibe. I can still see all the boys in the club with their gun dance shuffle. Awesome. Shy FX is wicked.

I spent 3 hours cleaning my place yesterday to prepare for my bday extravaganza. It’s not really an extravaganza, I just like using that word. Anyways I think I inhaled too many cleaning product fumes. My nose is all stuffed up and I swear I smell Lysol Bathroom Cleaner yet I’m at work so that’s impossible. LOL
If you get a chance you should totally listen to that Operon Mix I posted yesterday. It was the soundtrack to my cleaning and was so good!
Here’s a couple hot hot hits, as my cousin in Sierra Leone calls them:
Stereotype – Torn (Track is in the player – you should listen to the other tracks too they are all good.)
BCee & Lomax – Help You (I slept on this one. I really like Intrinsic Records. They have some great releases.)
Specific – Down To You (This track is wicked. I just love the vibe.)
Lm1 – Ambient Traveller (Track is in the player. I’ve been hearing a lot of his stuff lately and I love it.)
Today’s Oldie: Roni Size – It’s Jazzy – V Recordings 1997 This was one of the first records I learned to match beats with. I love the rolling bassline. V Recordings FTW. The V Recordings back catalogue is just ridiculous. I loved everything Roni Size back then. 🙂

My Adidas
Ugggggh. All of us at the Adidas Originals store hate that Run DMC track now. LOL. We have djs every weekend at the store and all of them think it’s cool to play that track, which it kinda is, but after hearing it every weeknd for numerous years we all hate it. They all seem to do the same beat juggle sequence with it, so the second any of us hear “MY Aaaa,” we immediately groan.
l am happy to report that I officially do not work at Adidas Originals anymore. My last day was saturday and it was quite bittersweet. I actually quit there last year but couldn’t find a job and really didn’t want to go back there full time so my manager was nice enough to let me stay on one day a week so I at least was making some money and still left me open to go on interviews and what not. Once I actually did get a job I didn’t mind the whole working six days a week thing so I just stayed on. I’m glad to officially be done with retail though. It’s a good feeling to know that I won’t ever being running around trying to find sizes of clothes or shoes for anyone again… unless they are my child I guess. Yay.
I would love to tell you that I spent the weekend listening to all those mixes that I told you I had downloaded the other day and that I have a bunch of new fave tracks to tell you about, but that would be a lie as I actually spent the whole weekend listening to the Specific spotlight mix on repeat. Soooo goood.
Been hearing a lot of Apex stuff that I like lately.
I’m really looking forward to my friend Sam’s wedding this weekend. I’ve been itching to get out of town. I just want to go away and hang out and be silly and not worry about anything which is exactly what I plan on doing this weekend. Oh and also I found a dress which is a huge annoying weight off my shoulders. 😉

Don’t Hang Up The Phone!!
I can’t remember if I wrote about this already or not but my phone has been fucked for like the past week. At first I was really into the silence but now it’s kinda lonely. I can make calls but not receive them or receive texts BUT if I’m on the phone then it works. How ridiculous is that? I can’t just stay on the phone forever.
Going to the Distance show tonight. Woot woot. I’m excited to hear good music. Should be fun.
Hunting for a dress for this wedding I’m going to next week is getting on my nerves. I know exactly what I want but I can’t seem to find it. That’s why it would be cool to be a designer cuz you would just make what you want and not have to worry about endless annoying shopping trips searching for something that resembles what you would like.
Man, that spotlight mix of Specific on Bassdrive yesterday was awesome. Definitely into that dude’s tunes. I’m the worst trainspotter ever. I always miss track ids and constantly ask for them to be repeated and usually still end up getting them wrong. My favourite track on the mix yesterday was called Something New. I’m pretty sure it was by Specific and I’m pretty sure that was the title, but like I just said, I’m not the best at paying attention so I could be wholeheartedly wrong.
The Arbitrators are on holiday this week so I guess there’s not much going on in the Workers’ Compensation Law world which means I’m doing menial mundane tasks around the office. It always seems like fun to have nothing to do but it’s really only fun for a couple of hours and then you just get bored of being bored.

Apparently someone likes L.A.O.S as much as I do. 😉 Really nice mix from Dj Lixx.

Don’t Tell Kiki The Babysitter’s Dead
My brother always makes fun of me for my issues about being left out. I’m convinced it’s a drawback of being the middle child. I have no qualms admitting that I suffer from middle child syndrome. You’ve witnessed it many times on here already… “Why don’t I know who Paul SG is?” “Why don’t I own that Zero T and Icicle track?” “Why didn’t anyone tell me I had a high voice?” and the latest “Am I the only one that doesn’t really know anything about beatport?” I act like people purposely exclude me from stuff. 😉
I posted that top 10 of Stunna’s yesterday. I didn’t know you could get the tracks. I’ve actually never used Beatport. Pipeline was telling me how he bought a bunch of tracks off of there the other day. Is it mostly for electronic music? Is it like an itunes store? I feel like I always ask stupid questions so sometimes I just keep shit to myself and live in a bliss of ignorance but then when everyone starts talking about shit I don’t know, I’m all like “How come no one told me?”
I don’t know what I’d do with the mp3s anyways. I guess I could listen to the individual songs on my ipod. I don’t own serato so that’s a no go. I definitely wouldn’t burn them to mix on cdjs because I’m absolutely rubbish on those things. I think it is a combination of being too heavy handed and impatient and therefore not really being able to master them. I’m sure if I didn’t have the attention span of a 3 year old it’s something I could learn to do properly but since I don’t mix out regularly enough to warrant getting the hot new tunes on mp3 I think I’ll just stay in my bliss of ignorance that I talked about a couple of sentences ago.
* Does everyone speak in long run on sentences like I do?? *
Moving on, I can’t remember the name of it but there was this Specific tune that I was nutters about, something about “breaking my heart.” Stunna turned me on to it and I’m pretty sure I even myspaced Specific to tell him how much I loved it. I swear I really don’t think I’m that much of a nerd in real life, crazy, yes, but nerdy, not necessarily all the time. Unfortunately when it comes to dnb I start to do super geeky things. I can’t help it some tunes just make me too excited.
The #3 Vandal Records podcast is by Specific. I’m excited to listen to it. I didn’t listen to the last Vandal podcast but the two before that by Redeyes and Peyo were my favourites for a while. It’s become quite silly to talk about what are my favourites. Basically i like dnb. I have a lot of favourites. The only things I will really say I dislike are clownstep and really noisy angry white boy dnb.
I have a bunch of tracks that I keep wanting to write about but time keeps escaping me. When I get all caught up at work I’ll have to do a list of my top ten or something.
