Is That You Biffy?

With the workload so heavy this week I’ve been coming in to work at 7 am. I know that sounds insane but I’m already up so I just leave the house instead of mucking about and watching tivo. It’s nice to get out at 4 pm too. The only drawback is that I’m going to bed super early cuz I’m so tired by the time it gets dark.

Seminar was really good last night. Sable Gray was dope and we all know how I feel about my buddy Stunna. 😉 I was just so tired though and I could barely keep my eyes open so I left early. I’m pretty sure I’m also just exhausted from the overhaul of exercise I’ve been getting the past couple of days. I got my bike this week and have been riding it to work. It’s a bit of a shock to my lazy ass when the majority of exercise I usually get is the 1 minute walk to the train station from my house! Anyway I’m digging the bike. It’s nice riding all over the city.

I feel like a naughty blogger because I haven’t really been able to tell you all the tracks I’ve been loving lately. This week at work is just hectic so hopefully I’ll be back in full chatterbox form soon.

In the meantime here’s this Chris Inperspective mix. Stunna was telling me how his new stuff is awesome and I just hadn’t really taken the time to listen to any of it, that was until I heard Biffy’s Not Here. Stunna played it before and it totally caught my ear. Sick tune. It’s hauntingly deep. Definitely loving it. There was this mix from the beginning of May that I had actually already downloaded but never listened to and Biffy’s on there so I guess I’ll be raving out to this one while I try to get through my ridiculous pile of work.

Don’t Tell Kiki The Babysitter’s Dead

My brother always makes fun of me for my issues about being left out. I’m convinced it’s a drawback of being the middle child. I have no qualms admitting that I suffer from middle child syndrome. You’ve witnessed it many times on here already… “Why don’t I know who Paul SG is?” “Why don’t I own that Zero T and Icicle track?” “Why didn’t anyone tell me I had a high voice?” and the latest “Am I the only one that doesn’t really know anything about beatport?” I act like people purposely exclude me from stuff. 😉

I posted that top 10 of Stunna’s yesterday. I didn’t know you could get the tracks. I’ve actually never used Beatport. Pipeline was telling me how he bought a bunch of tracks off of there the other day. Is it mostly for electronic music? Is it like an itunes store? I feel like I always ask stupid questions so sometimes I just keep shit to myself and live in a bliss of ignorance but then when everyone starts talking about shit I don’t know, I’m all like “How come no one told me?”

I don’t know what I’d do with the mp3s anyways. I guess I could listen to the individual songs on my ipod. I don’t own serato so that’s a no go. I definitely wouldn’t burn them to mix on cdjs because I’m absolutely rubbish on those things. I think it is a combination of being too heavy handed and impatient and therefore not really being able to master them. I’m sure if I didn’t have the attention span of a 3 year old it’s something I could learn to do properly but since I don’t mix out regularly enough to warrant getting the hot new tunes on mp3 I think I’ll just stay in my bliss of ignorance that I talked about a couple of sentences ago.

* Does everyone speak in long run on sentences like I do?? *

Moving on, I can’t remember the name of it but there was this Specific tune that I was nutters about, something about “breaking my heart.” Stunna turned me on to it and I’m pretty sure I even myspaced Specific to tell him how much I loved it. I swear I really don’t think I’m that much of a nerd in real life, crazy, yes, but nerdy, not necessarily all the time. Unfortunately when it comes to dnb I start to do super geeky things. I can’t help it some tunes just make me too excited.

The #3 Vandal Records podcast is by Specific. I’m excited to listen to it. I didn’t listen to the last Vandal podcast but the two before that by Redeyes and Peyo were my favourites for a while. It’s become quite silly to talk about what are my favourites. Basically i like dnb. I have a lot of favourites. The only things I will really say I dislike are clownstep and really noisy angry white boy dnb.

I have a bunch of tracks that I keep wanting to write about but time keeps escaping me. When I get all caught up at work I’ll have to do a list of my top ten or something.

Choon

Went to the Teebee show on saturday after all. Who was I kidding. I didn’t really have anything else to do. He played that Chase & Status “Take Me Away” tune that I told you I liked the other day. Pipeline liked it too. A lot. 🙂  I’ve actually already listened to the Format mix I posted below. I quite enjoyed it. There’s some cuts on there from Zero T’s upcoming album. So far the few tunes I’ve heard have been awesome.

I have a bunch of weddings and shit coming up this year so I feel like I’ve had to penny pinch which is kinda sad cuz there’s actually loads of records I want.

The day has actually passed me by. I’ve been semi busy at work. I actually had a lot of stuff I wanted to post about but that’ll have to wait til tomorrow. In the meantime check out the Format mix and peep Stunna’s top 10 which I’m sure I’ll hear him play and own next year sometime. 😉

I Got Tracks and Tracks and Tracks and Tracks…

I was thinking the other day about how many awesome tracks have been coming out lately.  There is just a really great group of producers out there right now making amazing stuff and it’s nice that it’s not just the usual suspects.  One person I’m really digging is Naibu from France.  I already picked up that Nami Island and I’m loving that Back Engineering.  Another group I’ve been turned on to is L.A.O.S. out of Finland.  I had a release that I picked up on one of those days that I was just itching to spend money and couldn’t find anything to buy and I quite liked it but never got anything else by them.  Right now though I’m totally into that Helsinki track of theirs.

I was listening to Brandy the other day and was thinking about how she is totally the dnb sample favourite.  LOL.  There are shitload of dnb tracks that sample her vocals.  TeeBee has two tracks that I love that use snippets of her tracks and there’s also a song on this Calculon mix below that samples “I Wanna Be Down.”  The vocal rifts on that song are very dnb compatible….. “And if I don’t let you know then I won’t be for real.”

I’ve been digging this Calculon mix.  It’s Rubik Records‘ Podcast number 10 and it’s just an all round good mix.  Rubik Records have a good podcast.  Stunna was on number 8.  You can download his installment at www.rubikpodcast.com.

I’m pretty content today, nice weather, good music, can’t really complain.

Nod Your Head

There was definitely a lot of head nodding going on last night.  I really had a good time at Seminar.  Great music.  Pipeline and Stunna were killing it.  I definitely admit that I’m quite spoiled when it comes to dnb.  My really good friends are part of the dnb game so I pretty much get to hear exactly what I want when they are around.  Stunna played this Lenzman banger that I still can’t get out of my head.  Sorry I forgot the name.  (I’m absolutely horrible with track names)  I’ll definitely be waiting for that one.

I’m a little bit out of it this morning.  I’m really tired.  I barely slept.  I did manage to find time to spend too much money buying records this morning though.  Always gotta make time for that right? One of the treats I picked up was a copy of this Mutt record that I’ve wanted that’s finally back in stock – Nice As Me/Strangers.  I was pretty excited about that.

I’m yawning alot which obviously means that my brain is need of a LOT of oxygen.  I’m not going to waste time babbling about nonsense.  I just found this Flight w/ Deeizm mix which I hope will keep me awake.

Sappy McSapperson

I’ve been listening to that Blame on Charge Recordings that I posted about recently, Stay Forever. I feel like it’s a good way to start your morning.

Speaking of Charge, can we talk about how much I used to love “Feel Good?” Those were the good old days. I don’t really listen to much of Mampi’s stuff anymore though. You’ll have to get me to tell you the story one time of driving back from a crazy outdoor rave with him and R Notorious J and Skibba with Mampi driving my roomates car… Priceless.

Anyways, moving on. I was thinking about how most pretty vocal dnb tracks have super sappy lyrics. High Contrast’s – Eternal Optimist is one of my personal faves. I think that song is so pretty. I think the girly pretty nature of most liquid funk tracks is why some people tend to hate on it so much. *shrugs*

If you were to look at my music history, the back catalogue definitely shows that I would invest in sappy dnb songs in the future. I used to listen to a lot of sappy R&B songs. I probably still would if I actually listened to the radio or watched videos but since dnb and dubstep take up most of my time I don’t know any new mainstream R&B artists. Word on the street is that they’re rubbish anyways. Bummer.

I remember being twelve and getting ready to move to America and having to leave this boy who i had just started making out with. Of course being twelve, I was convinced my life was over since I didn’t want to move to America in the first place. I listened to Karyn White’s Superwoman over and over and over (see this caning tracks to death thing isn’t new to me) to assuage my discontent with the move. Pretty dnb does the same thing for me now. Not necessarily in assuaging making out with boys but appeasing my occasional discontent with life in general. 😉

Stunna’s my main man when it comes to pretty dnb mixes. He switches it up every now and again but I’ve got a ton of old mixes to keep me happy. For those of you that live in Chicago he’ll being playing with Pipeline at Seminar tonight so you should stop by.

Here’s a little old jam loveliness to keep you busy.

I Get So Weak….

I’m beat down. I’ve had this horrific cough along with numerous other annoying symptoms for like five days. I’m pretty sure I’m dying. Web MD says I might have walking pneumonia or hypersomnia. Of course I can guarantee you that I really have neither. Web MD is good for turning people into hypochondriacs.

I was running around a lot this weekend so I don’t really have much dnb to write about… Well actually let me be honest, Stunna sent me this track that him and Tyler Straub did and I’m way too into it and have just been listening to it on repeat all weekend.  That’s why I have no other dnb to write about.   It’s called So Weak and it’s dope. I don’t remember being able to go anywhere in 1993 without hearing that SWV song so I’ve become a wee bit obsessed. Sorry but I don’t have a sample to give you right now.

I did get my D-Bridge : Gemini Principle LP so at least I accomplished something.

I’m still ailing and feeling a bit lazy so I’m just gonna listen to this SabreShogun Audio Mix on Pyro Radio and dream about not having hypersomnia and walking pneumonia.

DnB Overload! Pt. 1

I woke up this morning and just knew it was gonna be a good day. It’s rare when that happens. It’s almost like all the planets have to be aligned or something just to make sure that it does. I actually slept really well. I went running. I had a good breakfast. I watched some tivo. I replaced all the mixes on my ipod cuz it was about that time and I checked all the new releases to see if there was anything I wanted to buy. All this before I left for work at 8:05a.m. Not bad huh?

The only annoying thing that happened this morning was it was one of those times where people won’t stop staring at you. I know you’ve all had those days. I spent my train ride staring at the floor and pretending to focus on the mix I was listening to cuz there were like 4 people that were being totally relentless about it. It’s weird cuz I’m like, I see you staring… You’re looking right at me so how do you think I’m not going to see you??? At least I have the decency to master the art of secretly staring at someone. It would be nice if others learned to do the same! 😉 It makes you think that something is wrong with you and it’s totally bothersome so please stop doing it. I double checked the mirror when I got to work and there wasn’t anything wrong with me. No hair out of place, no food on my shirt, no random unidentifiable objects on my face. Maybe I was giving off the aura of being in a good mood and they could sense it and were annoyed. Everyone knows that a majority of people that are on their way to work at 8 a.m. are probably not happy about it. *end of rant*

Back to dnb… 🙂 It was like Christmas for me this morning cuz I managed to find a bunch of mixes that I actually was excited to listen to. I hadn’t checked out the new Marcus Intalex yet. My buddy Stunna said it was a must download and once I realised D-Bridge was on it too, it was a no-brainer. Right now I’m really digging that D-Bridge remix of “Dream World.” It’s on that Aaron Jay Mix I posted before.
