Good Times

I had a really good night last night. As I slowly make a name for myself in the geriatric community, I don’t really need much, just good music and good company. Yesterday I had exactly that. The pic is hopefully how I’m starting to look as I enter my senior citizen stages. Dashing old black lady. Dope.

Submorphics and Stunna came over and we did a little preparty and then headed to Lava. I was surprised by Lava, there were people there actually dancing and they weren’t crazy weirdos, it was just people having fun. Really nice vibe and awesome music. I danced a whole bunch. Both Whoa-B and Stunna really threw down. Stunna played a hot number from good old Will Miles that was just banging. I guess it’s a Talkbox Remix that he did. Don’t really have any other info on but just know it’s a hot one! 😉

Heard some jammers yesterday. No samples. 😦

Yesterday Stunna started his Bassdrive show with Commix’s Hung Up. Man, what a great tune. It made me think of this Commix mix from when they were on Fabio’s show last year. It’s a mini mix of some of the tunes they chose not to put on the album and it’s seriously amazing. Just beautiful drum n bass. There’s no tracklist cuz they didn’t even really say the names of the tracks.

I’ve been hearing some Logistics tunes lately that have totally made me fall in love with his music again. When his album Now More Than Ever came out, I was full on obsessed. I loved every track and was so into his production. Winter Blues was my favourite. I had heard an unfinished version that Flight had played on her 1xtra show earlier in the year and totally sought it out quite regularly and it didn’t come out until way way later and I wasn’t even annoyed that it took so long, I was just happy to own it. Also his remix of The Great D&B Swindle was so awesome. Then I started to not be so into his stuff. It wasn’t that it wasn’t good, it was more that i was on a totally different page dnb wise. Now I’m all on it again. There’s something so deep about his production. I feel like I just get it. Does that make sense? I think it’s cool when you’re listening to an artist and you connect with their music cuz you can say to your self, “I know what you’re on about, I get it.”

I was listening to the latest Hospital Podcast and heard one of Logistics new tunes Intervention on there. Hot stuff. I actually enjoyed the podcast this time around. I feel like it’s very hit or miss with me. Sometimes I’m super into it and other times I can’t even get through the first couple of tracks. Blasphemy!!! I know, I know 😉

There’s a wicked Matrix remix of that Redeyes Luv & Haight tune with Deeizm that I said I didn’t like on the podcast. I still don’t really like the vocal but the remix is awesome. Matrix!! I’ve always really liked him. My copy of his Sleepwalk LP is too through! I can only play the first half of my fave track Asylum cuz it’s just too scratched up. Dang.

Like I said though, I thought this installment of the podcast was really good. I’ll post it once I see a link but you can also just go subscribe to it on itunes.

I also am currently loving that Nu:Logic (Nu:Tone & Logistics) Trademark track. (It’s in the player.) I heard it on that awesome Marcus Intalex mix from July and it’s just a banging track.

I don’t have any mixes to rate for you right now. I’m kinda in that zone I’ve talked about before where I just seem to listen to the chunk of mixes that I have right now on repeat. I’m sure I’ll move on to a new group of mixes pretty soon.

I feel like my summer has been a bit boring. I usually am so excited about Chicago summers but I think that this time around it took so long that the enthusiasm died and now it’s almost over. Boo. I do have an exciting fall coming up though so hopefully that will make up for it. I have two weddings to go to which are actually going to be really fun cuz they are two of my really good friends.

I belong to this blog for this research marketing group.  Basically there’s a group of us that they ask questions to once a week and we get paid for our opinions.  I haven’t answered the questions in like  forever so I figured it was time to get to it.  I’ve been writing for what seems like eternally too long since my answers are always super detailed and now I can’t be bothered to write anything interesting in here.  Boo.  Alas there’s always tomorrow.

Hullabaloo?

Isn’t hullabaloo a word that everyone uses?  My coworker was dying of laughter when I used it on saturday and I could swear it’s a regular word that everyone uses but maybe not.  I just don’t remember it being a strictly British term.  Now he won’t stop using it.  He doesn’t even care what it means, he just throws it into every sentence.  LOL.

I had a pretty good weekend.  Westfest was fun.  Went to the Hatcha show on Friday.  Great music.  Hatcha was just killing it.  I love dubstep.  It’s my little treat to myself cuz it’s not completely part of my being like dnb is so every little event I got to or mix I download I cherish immensely. 🙂  I’m so cheesy but I can’t help it.  I just love dirty basslines.

Worked at Adidas on saturday.  I only have two shifts left there.  Eek.  I thought it was more than that!  I have no desire to work there anymore but when discussing my final shifts with my boss, the finality of it kinda freaked me out.  I’ve worked there for 3 years.  That store is very much a part of my life.  I’m really good friends with my coworkers and hang out with them quite frequently.  Then as I stood around waiting for customers to make decisions about items, waiting to close the store, I remembered why I was quitting and the nostalgia disappeared really quickly!

I’ve just exhausted my retail life.  I have no desire to get anyone anything for an hourly wage.  Salaries are where it’s at yo!  My regular 9 to 5 pays well and is pretty much stress free.  I like the idea of getting my work done and then going home.  Standing around in a clothing store waiting to help people that come in is definitely not my cup of tea anymore.

It will be weird to have to pay for clothes though.  I’ve been getting free clothes for the past 3 years cuz it’s part of our “uniform.”  I’ll still get the discount so it’ll be ok and to be honest i’ve kinda outgrown that style.  I still like the trainers but I’m gonna be 32 in a couple of months and I’ve figured out that I can’t wear shit with writing all over it or cartoony type characters without feeling a wee bit ridiculous and all the multicoloured items I own now is where it stops, I’m not adding anymore to the collection.  I’m sure you thought I was joking when I said I had reached senior citizen status, well I wasn’t at all. 😉

I bought some records this past weekend.  Managed to buy some that were on my wish list so that made me happy.

Don’t really have any dnb news today.  I kinda lazed out this weekend and didn’t even really listen to music, just read and watched tv.

I’ve gotten really emo as far as dnb is concerned. Lately my faves are the moody yet deep tracks like Survival or the pretty yet melancholy tracks that make you wanna lay around your house and think about your life. I was talking to Submorphics the other night and we were talking about one of his tracks, I had said I loved it but he said he didn’t really like it. So I was like “I love it cuz it’s all sulky and gloomy” and he was like “Yeah… frownstep.” LOL. Perfect name for that genre of liquid. Don’t get me wrong, I love the happy go lucky tunes too but I find myself gravitating towards the broody shit as of late.

Friday. I love you. I’m glad you’re here. I’m glad you exist. I’m grateful for you being you. I worship you. 🙂

I love having the archives of Presha’s shows to post. He doesn’t disappoint. I love that there are all these great radio shows for me to listen to now. It’s nice to have easy access to my dnb. When I first moved to America, I used to have my cousin send me Kool FM tapes in the post. I would anxiously await their arrival and then cherish them so deeply because I knew it would be a while before I got another one. Thank goodness those days are gone. 😉

Went to Seminar last night. Greg had a really lovely set. Hung out with Ju Ju, chatted a lot with Stunna about dnb. I love our little chats. He really is my dnb encyclopedia. Discussed a lot about how much i’m digging Donnie Dubson’s stuff. His Anti Depressing Soul Music EP just came out on promo and it’s just dope. Goonies is definitely my favourite track on there but I really do love all four tracks. Here’s some gratuitous Chunk for no reason whatsoever. 😉

I’m having a pretty average day. Nothing too spectacular to report.

So I’ve already admitted that I have ultra nerdy tendencies when it comes to my dnb. One of the things that I do religiously is write down the name of tracks with hopes of someday owning them. I know sometimes these tracks never come out but with this day and age there’s hope that I could track down and mp3 or something eventually.

I have this folder in my email where I just email myself track names and just kinda glance over them every once in a while to update it and keep track if I have managed to acquire any of the tunes. One tune that’s been on there for years is a track I identified as a “Brother” Calibre Remix on Defunked. I didn’t just make this title and label up on my own. I copied it from numerous tracklists of mixes that I had heard that track on since 2003. Well lo and behold that is not the name of the track and that’s why I’ve never been able to find it. My dnb encyclopedia Stunna enlightened me today. I should feel some sense of relief cuz this is one of the main tracks on the list that has puzzled me as I have never been able to find it. Alas I’m so over it now that I don’t even care and can’t be bothered to even tell you what the track was. I just bought the cd off amazon so I guess I can move on with my life. LOL.

I saw a promo for the Marcus Intalex – Astro Dance EP and got confused cuz I could have sworn The Sentry has been making the rounds forever. I’m already sick of hearing that track. Funnily though after a quick chat with Submorphics we concluded that I listen to too many mixes so here I am thinking that tracks have already come out because I’ve been listening to them for months but in fact they haven’t been released. *shrugs* I haven’t bought a Soul:R record in two years at least. They just don’t seem to hit it with me like they used to. I love Marcus Intalex but I feel like the releases aren’t as amazing as lets say an Outerspace. I liked The Sentry when I first heard it and I do like Cabin Fever. I guess it’s a decent release, I just don’t know if I’ll buy it though.

I’ve been really busy at work today typing this brief for my boss. I can think of nothing more boring. It’s 20 pages so far. *sigh* I’m just listening to music and trying to stay awake.

I’ve got no idea who this Maxtekk is but I really liked the mix. There’s a few technical glitches here and there but I loved the selection. His page is in Russian so if you can read it lemme know the details about him cuz I am unfortunately am not fluent in Russian. 😉

The last of my friends left today. 😦 It’s easy to get used to having your friends around. It just becomes normal having them be part of your everyday activities.

Erin mixes house and wanted to go to Gramaphone yesterday. We totally got trapped in the storm over there. It was crazy. While she shopped, I perused the dnb section and came across a copy of Dillinja’s – Fluid/Hard Noize on Test Recordings. Who sold that?? Are you crazy? It was obviously someone who decide they totally hate dnb now cuz no dnb loving person would part with that record. LOL. I own it and mine is so scratched up from overuse yet I refused to part with it. I gladly paid my $4.99 for this lovely gem and went on my merry way. What a great gem to come across! That record is sick. I remember when that record came out it was such the buzz. “Did you get your Test 2?” “Have you heard Test 2?” “Test 2 is wicked!” and so forth. It’s really all about Fluid. That’s what was causing all the ruckus. The way that track sounded on a loud sound system just drove the ravers wild. I was very happy with my lucky find. Now I can get rid of my scratched up copy since it wasn’t playable anyways.

Saburuko has some top notch stuff. I have been loving everything I’ve been hearing.

Not feeling too well.  I really think my bouts with sickness might have something to do with my office. Before I started working here I really was one of those people that never got sick and all of a sudden I find myself being poorly quite frequently.

I had a good weekend.  It was nice to see my friends.  Jess’s party was cool.

I’m having a pretty blah day.  I’m sure it has to do with the rain and the feeling sick etc.

I was listening to Decem’s “Don’t Sleep” (track is in the player) this morning.  Still really digging that track.  It gets stuck in my head on the regular.

I was pretty excited when I saw this Randall mix.  Someone on the Breaksblog board made a comment about not hearing a mix of Randall’s without an MC.  It’s so true!  I think the last time I heard a mix of his with no MC was back in the late ’90s. LOL.

Ugh. I’ve become one of those people that eagerly awaits friday’s arrival. My jobs usually have been restaurants or retail and you actually dread friday’s cuz that means the weekend’s here and we’re going to be horribly busy. Knowing I only have 4 weeks left at adidas makes me excited for fridays cuz pretty soon I’ll have 2 days of freedom. Holla!

I’m actually in a pretty good mood. I’m excited for Jess’s party tonight and for my friends from Minneapolis to get here. The party is gonna be really fun. How can it not be? It’s an event involving my closest friends. It’s kinda hard not to have fun when you’re surrounded by people you’re fond of.

I listened to Spinn’s show again this a.m. I really like his show a lot. I feel like it’s a very friendly dnb environment. It’s nice to know that you can just tune in and hear a friendly voice play music that you like and inform you about the latest dnb artists and what not. I keep gushing about him so much cuz I’m a new listener. I was not really around to listen to Bassdrive shows before cuz I was working retail and the only ones I usually did take time to tune in to were Stunna’s and Pipeline’s cuz they are people I hang it with all the time so I would just tune in automatically. Anyways Spinn is a welcomed addition to my friday schedule.

Donnie (Future Prophet) kindly informed me about the Zyon Base tracks that he played on wednesday which I greatly appreciate and can now stop griping about not finding the ones I like. Tombstone Blues is great. Low bassline with a silky vocal. Nice tune. It’s in his player.

Dan Marshall – Same ‘Ol. Great tune. I have this raggedy post it note that’s sticking out of my notebook telling me to write about this track. That was last month. I definitely am not the most organized person. It’s a real great tune. I dont’ have a sample of it, I don’t even have a mix with it on there so I just listen to the Bassdrive hoping someone will play it. What a saddo I am. Hee hee. Spinn actually played it this morning so I was happy. You can listen to the archive of his show here.

Antoine Merriweather from In Living Colour!!! Love it! Hate it! LOL. I’m still really into Neverlove. They make a good team… Stunna and Contour I mean. 😉

Stunna played a pretty cool Blake Reary remix yesterday by Advisory (there’s a sample in the player). Atmospheric and pretty indeed.

I’m a little late on the posting today. I actually have been working diligently for the past 5 and 1/2 hours. No internet, no iming, no reading blogs. Just straight up work. It’s amazing what you can get done when you don’t procrastinate.

Yesterday, when I got home I kept being like “ooh I should have wrote about this track” but of course stupid me didn’t write them down and I can’t even remember what the hell I was thinking about cuz my mind is totally blank. Weird. Well maybe not weird, cuz I find it hard to focus on things for too long anyways, so lets just say… annoying.

I went to Lava last night and I actually had a good time. Jujitsu Jellybean was there and so was Stunna. I hadn’t been there in a while so it was nice to hang out with my peeps. Nameloc played last night and he had a really nice set. He played the Perculator Dubstep Refix by Jaybird. Love it! It’s just a dirty and nasty tune. Future Prophet and BRC threw down too and I loved it as well.  I even remember dancing slightly.  Stop the presses!  Old lady on the dance floor.

I think I was really in the mood for a night out with good music. I got to hear that Lynx – Distance Zero on a loud system and I love it even more.  I’ve been listening to it in my headphones for the past month and sometimes it’s just nice to hear shit out loud in an open space.  I also heard some Zyon Base tune I was into, don’t know the name.  I was complaining to Stunna that I’ve been hearing a bunch of Zyon Base stuff that I really like but whenever I search for his stuff online I only come across the tracks I’m not overly chuffed about.  Go figure.

I guess I’ll have to start trainspotting more than I already do.  There’s not point in having a blog where I write about the latest tracks that I like if I don’t know the names of any of them is there?  I will say though,  I’m a bit sad that I’ve somehow turned into the annoying girl that asks for track names all the time. I’m definitely keep the question asking to a minimum from now on.  I’ll only ask the people that know that I’m being annoying by asking for the track name of every single fucking dnb track ever made but still manage to love me just the same. 😉

I’m feeling a bit out of sorts and I’m not quite sure why. Maybe I just need to have a good lie down or something.
