Chronic Kiki

It’s Dr. Dre’s bday today. So what you say? LOL. My best friend and his friends used to do this graffiti magazine called Life Sucks Die. They would frequently have random articles, crossword puzzles etc. that discussed the awesomeness that is Dr. Dre. It was pretty funny. Seven years ago they decide they would have a party on his bday. The idea itself is pretty dope. They had The Chronic cut outs that you could put your face in and take pics, they had 40s for everyone to drink  and also did a $20 sack pyramid game show. The party became such a hit that they started doing it every year. Last year Dre actually knew about the party cuz Arabian Prince played the 2008 installment and told him about it. Now Burlesque Design decided to branch out and have Dre Day parties all over. This year they are doing one in Chicago too. I think that if you aren’t familiar with these Minneapolis dudes the idea itself seems pretty nutso but it’s awesome. I don’t mean to be a skeptic but I don’t know if the Chicago one can live up to the caliber that is the Minneapolis legacy. I’m going anyways just for the hell of it. Should be fun. Happy Bday Dr. Dre. 🙂

Back to dnb world.

Lounge Or Die

I have been doing some serious lounging.  It’s gotten a bit ridiculous actually.  I forgot that I didn’t have to work on President’s day so basically I’ve worked one day in the past eleven.   Geez.   I gotta get back into productive mode!

Sorry no tunes today, my list is at work.

Absolutely love this one.   It’s so pretty.   I remember being in all my early 20s angst glory and just thinking “this remix speaks to me!”   You think I’m dramatic now?   Imagine me at 21!   LOL.  Classic track.

Viva Me-hi-co!

I leave for Mexico today. I checked the forecast and it’s pretty much going to be 90 degrees the entire time we’re there. Vacay with my friends, best friend’s wedding, sunshine, sunshine and more sunshine. Nice.

I’m a little anxious about not writing in my blog. I know it’s dumb but I’m very OCD when it comes to things like that. I have consistently written in my blog 5 days a week since I started it in May and I hate looking at the calendar to the right and seeing empty spaces. I prolly shouldn’t be divulging my neurotic tendencies to you but I’ve already established that I’m kinda cuckoo so who cares. Anyways, lounging in the sun automatically trumps writing in my blog so I’m sure I’ll get over it.

Be back in business next Friday so brock out til then peeps!

I guess I’m in a vocals mood today. 🙂

Snuggle Bunny Kiki

Over Christmas was when I saw the snuggie commercial for the first time.  It brought me much amusement.  I feel like the commercial is made in the same way as the “I’ve fallen and I can’t get up” ones were.  Pure hilarity.

I was talking to my friend Mike’s gf, Erin the other day and she showed me something that one ups the snuggie, the couch sack!!!  What!  Ten times better than the snuggie.  I like to be as cozy as the next person but this shit is out of control.  LOL.

Hmmm…

There are some days where you just don’t really know what’s going on.  Know what I mean?  You ponder things, you wonder how things are going to pan out, you really just don’t have a grasp on it and it’s not really that bothersome, it just peaks your curiosity even more.  I’m having one of those today.

On that note, in dedication to my post title I figured I would post the link to that horrific video by C & C Music Factory.

When I first started to learn to mix, understanding the beatmatching concept was not my problem.  I kinda already got that concept.  I’m good at math so it just made sense.  My big problem was understanding how to use the equipment.  It took me a while to get comfortable with all the things you could do with the mixer.  For the longest time I just blended.  No tricks. Nothing.  Then I went through the phase where I understood how the phono/line button could be used in your mix and I’m sure everyone cursed the day I learned that.  Every mix I just went nuts.  This B-key was one of my favourites cuz it’s a really fun track to play with the phono/line button.  All the elements are awesome and just make the blend that more interesting.  Lovesit!  Awesome noisy business.

Lekke! I’ve missed you.  I’ve always enjoyed his mixes, they are just nice to listen to.  I found this one on Doddi’s Blog.  I’m gonna listen right now.

Friday

Boo.  I totally missed out on that Commix mix.  I meant to download it yesterday but never got around to it and then they took the link down.  Gotta be quick, I guess.

It’s Friday.  Holla.  I remember when my coworker at Adidas got a regular 9 to 5, he said to me that the weekends don’t get old and he’s totally right.  After working retail/restaurant jobs for 13 odd years, the thought of never having to work on a Saturday or Sunday is still the most exciting thing ever and I’ve been working at my regular 9 to 5 for a year. 😉

I decided to do a double whammy on the oldies tip today.  I really wanted to just put the whole Showdown EP.  The Undiluted posse brings back so many interesting memories of old rave days in Minneapolis .  I remember Kane and the lot and our excursions to the Mall of America as well as rescuing them from a motel that another promoter had put them in that was hella ghetto.  They swore they heard gunshots and seeing as the motel was located on Franklin Ave., I wouldn’t be surprised.  Oh the good old Jungle Vibe Collective rave days.

Offshore Recordings has a podcast now.  Looking forward to checking out the first installment.

Waiting For Kiki

I’m going to Mexico next week for my best friend’s wedding.  I feel like all I’m doing these days is just waiting to leave.  The weather is whatever, work is whatever, going out is whatever.  I’m not in a bad mood about it or anything, I just want to lie on a beach and drink the beautiful cocktails that I love to daydream about and soak up the sun as soon as possible.  7 days and counting.  Holla.

Wild Out Wednesday

Well not really, I definitely wouldn’t classify myself as a person who “wilds out.” I’ve just always thought that phrase was funny. The hosts on 106th & Park always sound so amped when they talk about it “What up, what up what up, it’s WILD OUT WEDNESDAY!!!”

I will however be “wildin’ out” to Mutt today though. I feel like my whole day will be Mutt related. LOL. First, he’s playing Bassdrive from 2pm to 5pm cst for a special Greenroom session with Stunna, and Sinistarr so definitely tune in. Then he’s also playing at Seminar tonight.
