Mind The Gap Please

My train ride to work was absolutely hilarious. To me it was anyways. The pure hilarity of being on a train car that’s chocablock full and you have to stand soooo close to other people while pretending that it’s not really that big of a deal is just pure comedy to me. I was seriously sandwiched between these two dudes that were some how on either side of me, grossgusting grinding in a douchebag club style, and all three of us had to pretend that it wasn’t weird. I kept listening to my ipod and tried to look down on the floor but I really just thought the whole thing was way too funny. At some point I did bust up laughing. They weren’t really that amused and I’m sure decided I was crazy. Whatever though, I’m totally used to people thinking I’m weird so I just laughed merrily and waited to get off at my stop.  Silly morning indeed.

I must say that I don’t really ride my bike to work as much anymore. I am still in love with it but I know that I’m not enough of an enthusiast that I have to be on it all hours of the day. I love the whole riding aspect but I don’t think I’m obsessed enough with it to cart it to every single destination and go through the whole locking up process. I find it quite annoying actually. Yes I’m easily annoyed, ask any of my friends, they’ll agree. It’s just that lately I’ve had so much stuff to do after work that the thought of having to lock my bike up 4 or more times after I get off work is just ghastly to me. I know bike enthusiasts everywhere are closing the browser in disgust!!! Instead I just ride when I know that they’ll only be a one or two stop lock up process and make up for it by trying to go for a nice bike ride on the weekend. I had a lovely scenic hour and a half session on sunday morning. I think I’m gonna make sure to carve more time out for it because before we know it the snow we’ll be here and I won’t be able to ride anymore.

Toodloo to my buddy CC. She moves to Tahoe today. I am excited at the prospect of having another holiday spot to visit. Now if I could only figure out how to get on the European paid holiday schedule (4 weeks paid vacay!!?? Unheard of!) I would be fine.

Choons:

SurvivalInside Vibes This one has been making the rounds for a while. I’ve heard it on a bunch of mixes but honestly didn’t know it was Survival. Should have guessed though, it’s totally got that Survival grit to it that I love so much. Good tune. I like the Method One on the other side too.

Bachelors of Science feat. Zyon BaseAsk You Why Oooh, talk about sexy tune! 😉

Brookes BrothersTear You Down Nice, bouncy, pretty vocal tune. Love it!

I Want That New New Ish!

I won’t lie, I get very disgruntled when I don’t have a decent amount of new records to play when I mix out. Between being busy and not being rich and there not being a ton of records that have been released (of course all my favourites are unreleased dubs) that I felt like I needed to own, I find myself salty that I don’t have a satisfactory amount of new records that I can play at my gig on wednesday. Lame.

On the mix forefront though, I have some really awesome ones that I am still listening to. That Brother one is fucking awesome. So many amazing tracks. Shouts to Moonbay, I too am still listening to the Methodus. 🙂 That Paul Reset is on heavy rotation and the Numeral is just lovely. Basically I raved out in my house to dnb the entire weekend. Laundry and cleaning a messy room are a pleasure when you have a good mix to listen to.

I was so busy the last couple of days that I didn’t post an oldie. I reckon today’s one has to be dope to make up for it. 😉

Today’s Oldie: Future CutBloodline (it’s song d)

I’m kinda operarting slowly today.

TGIF

I wonder how many silly Friday associations I can come up with for titles.  I’m pretty sure I’m running out already.

So apparently my co-worker has had a nervous breakdown and that’s why she hasn’t been in for the past 5 days. Sorry to hear that but it still sucks that we’ve had to do her work all week.

Yay, the weekend’s here. The novelty is wearing off. I’m still excited but it’s not a shock anymore that I don’t work on the weekends.

I would like to include going to see the new Ricky Gervais movie as part of my weekend activities. It’s no secret that I have a crush on that dude. LOL. It’s an intellectual crush. I don’t want to make out with him or anything. I just think he is such a good writer and ridiculously funny. I laugh a lot. It’s an everyday part of my life. I just think a lot of things about life in general are super funny. He seems to point out those things and highlight them constantly and there are so few people who are able to focus on shit like that in an intelligent manner.

Some more jammers:

Submorphics – California Suite (I’m super into Greg’s stuff. I’ve mentioned that before. I know he’s my friend but I don’t just rate his stuff because of that. He became my friend through my loving his production and him living in my neighbourhood, therefore I am able to harass him by talking about his tracks constantly. 😉 It’s just the kind of dnb I like. Track is in the player)

Smote – Off The Wall (No sample for this one but check out his other tracks in his player. Really great stuff.)

Squash – HiFi (Don’t really know much about him but I really like this track.)

Have a great weekend!

Chillin’

I woke up this morning with an air of serenity enveloping me. No I’m not trying to become a poet. It really was just how I felt. I’ve been steady calm for the past 7 hours. I did wake up an hour earlier than I usually do so maybe the serenity had something to do with the stillness of 4:27 a.m. Regardless, I like it.

There’s not much going on at my work today. I’m caught up for the time being.

I’ve been enjoying the mixes I’ve downloaded recently a lot. That Zetek Podcast is dope, so is that Numeral Mix and also the Ney Faustini Vandal Podcast and that Atlantic Connection Mix.

I like this one:

Golden Oldies

I had a nice weekend despite the ridiculous rain.

Yesterday I mixed for an obscene amount of time. I went through my records and just picked all the old tracks that I wanted to play which turned into a session including Bad Company, Ram people, Lifting Spirits, Matrix and so forth that went on for about 3 hours. I had a blast. Then I did a session of newer stuff which went on for about another 3 hours. I also did a four turntables session for the first time with Caleb. That was also a blast. He has an insane record collection so we just did a set of old skool house rave classics from early 90s onward. Pretty awesome. I was at Reisha’s house from about 230pm til iike 10. LOL. Caleb has a pretty nice studio and we can play as loud as we want. He also won this dj competition recently so he got these brand new ridiculously awesome monitors that just make it like you’re having your own little rave in the studio. Basically I just hung out and ate food played with the baby and listen to loads of music.

I’ve decided I’m going to start picking an old track for the day. It won’t necessarily have to be dinosaur years old, just not from 2008. 🙂

Today’s is the Groovrider Remix of Jonny L’s Piper.

Jonny L – Piper (Grooverider Remix) 1997

I don’t really have a new tracks to talk about today. Still obsessing over Carl Matthes & Bionic 1’s – Let It Go. Can’t get it out of my head. There still is no sample but it’s a favourite on Bassdrive so I’m sure if you tune in there someone will play it.

Tranquil

I’ve had a pretty good week. I wonder when the novelty of not having to work on the weekends is going to wear off. This is the third weekend now and I still feel like it’s Christmas. LOL.

I’ve been listening to AmaningTranquility on repeat for the past 3 days. I know I’ve written about it before but I just bought the mp3 off Beatport. Before I had to fast forward to the end of this one mix I had to listen to it and that got kinda played out. I’m not sure why it only occured to me now to buy it off Beatport. LOL.

I can’t really explain to you why I’m so obsessed with the track. I’m quite aware that it’s old. I think I just love that there are some songs that pretty much set the tone for exactly how you’re feeling. I’m calm, tranquil, at peace, and every other synonym related to being serene, and that song has contently place itself as my background music. 🙂

I’m kinda feeling these:

VisionaryAutomatic

Hydro & NaibuSecrecy

Listening to Spinn on Bassdrive as usual, it is friday after all. 😉

Have a good weekend.

Happy Happy Joy Joy

I’m having a great day today.  It’s just nice to wake up in a good mood and have it continue hours and hours into the rest of the day.

Some new faves….

Lenzman – Bright Lights (track is in the player)

Saburuko & Brother – In Control (track is in the player)

Naibu – Fireflies (track is in the player)

Redeyes & Random Movement feat. MuttGroove Thing (track is in the Redeyes player) Nice collabo going on there.  Three of my favourite artists.  This is coming out on Future RetroBCee has a really good thing going with both Future Retro and Spearhead, I love a lot of the tracks that come out on both of them.

People are always asking me why I love liquid funk so fucking much.  LOL.  I’ve said this on numerous occasions but I’ll say it again…  I basically want pretend that I’m hanging out in a beautiful garden with multicoloured pastel drinks with umbrellas in them while lying in a hammock with sunglasses and pretty flower aroma blowing in the breeze and the sun shining through the trees but not on me as I don’t want it to be too hot.  Liquid funk pretty much helps me to create that pretend scenario,  Noisa on the other hand usually does not.  🙂

I’m halfway into this Zetek podcast mix and I already love it.  I will full on admit that I had no idea who he was until today but I’m definitely digging him now.

Queen of the Dairy

I love ice cream. Most people do. The only person I know who doesn’t get excited to delve into a pint of ice cream for no good reason whatsoever is my friend Reisha. My biggest complaint since I moved to the Chi six years ago was that there wasn’t a Dairy Queen within walking distance from my house. My old place in Minneapolis was a block away from one and it was the highlight of many a day. When Jessica and I heard that they had opened one on Damen we was ecstatic! I will definitely be getting a Dairy Queen ice cream bday cake this year, trust!

We finally made our way there last night. The service was not the best but then Jessica made the good point that when have you ever gone to a Dairy Queen and gotten impeccable service! LOL. I seriously was on cloud 9. I got a French Silk Blizzard and it seriously might have been the best thing I’ve tasted all year. (I’m sure you’ve come to terms with my exaggeration problem so I doubt it was the best thing I’ve tasted all year but we’ll just go with it for today) I was looking for a pic of Dairy Queen to post and one of the web pages I came across was the nutritional content of Dairy Queen items…. 1410 Calories in that French Silk Blizzard. Yikes. I’m not really that weight conscious and what not but dang, it’s seems a little insane to spend 2/3 of your recommended daily calorie intake on a blizzard. It was good but again, dang.

I’m becoming more boring by the minute. It’s a sad day when the most exciting thing I have to tell you about last night is my gluttonous trip to Dairy Queen. 😉

Yesterday on Bassdrive chat they were having an old skool conversation about Andy C. I joined in for a mo. Basically anything Andy C/Ram affiliated after 2002 is so not really my thing, but all that stuff before then, man, so awesome. I have been buying more Ram Records lately though since Chase and Status are on there and I like their tunes every now and again. Take Me Away FTW.

Ever since I listened to that Optical tape on the Internet Rave Archive I’ve been totally craving old dnb tracks. I really am going to try and organize my records this weekend, or at least start it.

Here’s a couple of my Andy C/Ram faves.

Ram Trilogy – Human Future

Adam F – Circles (Andy C Remix)

I’ve been naughty. I’ve been listening to the same mixes over and over and haven’t been as tuned into Bassdrive so I actually am not too up on the new ish. I’ll be better I promise. 🙂

In the meantime I’m loving this Saburuko.

FBI Don’t You Be Watching Me

I was listening to Ol DB (R.I.P.) – Got Your Money on the way to work this a.m. Classic.

I honestly had the best weekend ever. I can’t believe I’ve been missing out on having two days off a week for the past 13 years. It was heavenly. I was so lazy. I actually didn’t even leave my house yesterday. I got a lot done and managed to take numerous naps, eat copious amounts of food and watch a ton of telly. Nice.

Friday was the only night I went out. Bass Goes Boom. 6 Blocc. Yikes! Now that was a party and a half! Chicago’s dubstep scene is fire I tell you. 6 Blocc was sick! I love it that people are into dubstep. I’m used to listening to music that no one else listens to. I’m content to have my dubstep parties by myself while I clean the house but it’s definitely more fun when there’s a packed bar, right? 😉

I remember when I first moved to Chicago and the dnb scene was packed like that. 😦 Oh well, I won’t complain. Some places don’t even have a scene, right?

So I don’t know if I told you that Seminar changed from an all dnb night to a “home of the UK underground” night, so basically when I play there on the 24th I can play a 2step/garage set if I wanted. I love mixing old skool 2step/garage sets. I’ve got really good old records. I’m still deciding, I’ll keep you posted.

I’m excited to listen to this mix.  The tracklist is filled with loads of people I like.
