Meh

Not feeling too well.  I really think my bouts with sickness might have something to do with my office. Before I started working here I really was one of those people that never got sick and all of a sudden I find myself being poorly quite frequently.

I had a good weekend.  It was nice to see my friends.  Jess’s party was cool.

I’m having a pretty blah day.  I’m sure it has to do with the rain and the feeling sick etc.

I was listening to Decem’s “Don’t Sleep” (track is in the player) this morning.  Still really digging that track.  It gets stuck in my head on the regular.

Kinda digging this KjellEmpty Wallets.

I was pretty excited when I saw this Randall mix.  Someone on the Breaksblog board made a comment about not hearing a mix of Randall’s without an MC.  It’s so true!  I think the last time I heard a mix of his with no MC was back in the late ’90s. LOL.

Party!

Ugh. I’ve become one of those people that eagerly awaits friday’s arrival. My jobs usually have been restaurants or retail and you actually dread friday’s cuz that means the weekend’s here and we’re going to be horribly busy. Knowing I only have 4 weeks left at adidas makes me excited for fridays cuz pretty soon I’ll have 2 days of freedom. Holla!

I’m actually in a pretty good mood. I’m excited for Jess’s party tonight and for my friends from Minneapolis to get here. The party is gonna be really fun. How can it not be? It’s an event involving my closest friends. It’s kinda hard not to have fun when you’re surrounded by people you’re fond of.

I listened to Spinn’s show again this a.m. I really like his show a lot. I feel like it’s a very friendly dnb environment. It’s nice to know that you can just tune in and hear a friendly voice play music that you like and inform you about the latest dnb artists and what not. I keep gushing about him so much cuz I’m a new listener. I was not really around to listen to Bassdrive shows before cuz I was working retail and the only ones I usually did take time to tune in to were Stunna’s and Pipeline’s cuz they are people I hang it with all the time so I would just tune in automatically. Anyways Spinn is a welcomed addition to my friday schedule.

Donnie (Future Prophet) kindly informed me about the Zyon Base tracks that he played on wednesday which I greatly appreciate and can now stop griping about not finding the ones I like. Tombstone Blues is great. Low bassline with a silky vocal. Nice tune. It’s in his player.

Dan Marshall Same ‘Ol. Great tune. I have this raggedy post it note that’s sticking out of my notebook telling me to write about this track. That was last month. I definitely am not the most organized person. It’s a real great tune. I dont’ have a sample of it, I don’t even have a mix with it on there so I just listen to the Bassdrive hoping someone will play it. What a saddo I am. Hee hee. Spinn actually played it this morning so I was happy. You can listen to the archive of his show here.

Stunna & ContourConfusion. Love it! I feel like I’ve become Blaine Edwards and

Antoine Merriweather from In Living Colour!!! Love it! Hate it! LOL. I’m still really into Neverlove. They make a good team… Stunna and Contour I mean. 😉

Stunna played a pretty cool Blake Reary remix yesterday by Advisory (there’s a sample in the player). Atmospheric and pretty indeed.

Man, do I want to leave. Maybe if I actually do some work time will fly by faster.

Have a good weekend

Krazy Kiki

I’m a little late on the posting today. I actually have been working diligently for the past 5 and 1/2 hours. No internet, no iming, no reading blogs. Just straight up work. It’s amazing what you can get done when you don’t procrastinate.

Yesterday, when I got home I kept being like “ooh I should have wrote about this track” but of course stupid me didn’t write them down and I can’t even remember what the hell I was thinking about cuz my mind is totally blank. Weird. Well maybe not weird, cuz I find it hard to focus on things for too long anyways, so lets just say… annoying.

I went to Lava last night and I actually had a good time. Jujitsu Jellybean was there and so was Stunna. I hadn’t been there in a while so it was nice to hang out with my peeps. Nameloc played last night and he had a really nice set. He played the Perculator Dubstep Refix by Jaybird. Love it! It’s just a dirty and nasty tune. Future Prophet and BRC threw down too and I loved it as well.  I even remember dancing slightly.  Stop the presses!  Old lady on the dance floor.

I think I was really in the mood for a night out with good music. I got to hear that LynxDistance Zero on a loud system and I love it even more.  I’ve been listening to it in my headphones for the past month and sometimes it’s just nice to hear shit out loud in an open space.  I also heard some Zyon Base tune I was into, don’t know the name.  I was complaining to Stunna that I’ve been hearing a bunch of Zyon Base stuff that I really like but whenever I search for his stuff online I only come across the tracks I’m not overly chuffed about.  Go figure.

I guess I’ll have to start trainspotting more than I already do.  There’s not point in having a blog where I write about the latest tracks that I like if I don’t know the names of any of them is there?  I will say though,  I’m a bit sad that I’ve somehow turned into the annoying girl that asks for track names all the time. I’m definitely keep the question asking to a minimum from now on.  I’ll only ask the people that know that I’m being annoying by asking for the track name of every single fucking dnb track ever made but still manage to love me just the same. 😉

I’m feeling a bit out of sorts and I’m not quite sure why. Maybe I just need to have a good lie down or something.

Can you believe it’s Friday already tomorrow?

Busy Body

Is busy body one word or two? And… Does anyone use that term besides my mum and 75 year old ladies??

Ugh my throat hurts again. 😦

Lame.

It’s 2:20 p.m. The clock needs to move a wee bit faster in my opinion.

Listening to Stunna on Bassdrive, you should tune in.

Busy, busy, busy. I’m sure there’s a ton of stuff I could talk about but I’m a bit too preoccupied.

Tracks I’m loving…

Donnie Dubson – 6am (track is in the player)

Technicolour – Half A Chance (no sample. eek)

Random Movement – Reasoning With The Weeds (no sample again. boo.)

If I was a dnb superstar I could probably get these samples to share, but alas I am not and therefore am just a timewasting blogger who alerts you of tracks I think are cool. 😉

Can’t say I’m too excited about the Calibre Electric Soul EP. It’s good but I won’t die if I don’t own it.

Mes Amis

I’m a wee bit crabby today. Boo. 😦

Too much annoying work and I sure as hell don’t feel like doing it, which is just pathetic since it’s only tuesday. Boo squared.

I am really looking forward to this weekend though. It’s my friend Jessica’s 30th bday and a bunch of our friends from Minneapolis are coming for the weekend. Jessica is one of my oldest and dearest friends. She was my old roomate when I lived in Minneapolis and she moved to Chicago the year after I did. I think it was a bonus for me because I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t have settled in as easily to my Chicago lifestyle if I hadn’t had someone that was a good friend that knew me really well to kick it with while I went on my quest to meet new people.

I’m quite fond of my friends. Five of them from Minneapolis are coming up for the weekend and they are both mine and Jessica’s mutual really good friends. I know it sounds dumb and corny to talk about how much you appreciate your friends, but as you get older it’s a lot harder to make new friends. I’ve had the same tight knit group of friends for 11 to 12 years. They aren’t acquaintances who I just see out. They are genuine people who have been a part of my life consistently and actually care about what happens to me. I thought that everyone had those go to people that they rely on no matter what but I’m discovering that that isn’t really always the case and therefore I am very grateful for my friends. The key test to friendship is when you have significantly big changes in your life, whether or not those people continue to be your friends. Be it having a child, moving to a different state or getting married. All three of these things have happened to our group of friends and our friendships are still in tact and still as strong. I’m quite fortunate that I met some really great people once I moved to Chicago too and have added them to my little group. I hope others have the same luck I do cuz honestly, there’s nothing better than having great friends. 🙂

*end of emo rant*

I heard some new Hospital Records stuff that wasn’t really my cup of tea. Bah, I think I might just not be that into the direction they are heading these days. No harm done. Not every sound is gonna please everyone. it’s still a pretty good label regardless.

Part one of Redeyes’ LP is out on promo. I really like the Conart track. I can’t say I’m really into that Deeizm track. I think she’s a really great emcee but I kinda get annoyed when the vocals tend to dominate a whole track unless your Diane Charlemagne or something. Yeah I’m a picky bitch. Whatever.

RedeyesPoetry In Motion LP Part 1

I’ve been waiting for this Random Movement for ages. I fucking love this Lesson & Aftermath. It’s so melodic and just plain ol lovely, beautiful, liquidy, pretty, all those adjectives and then some. Definite make out music. 😉 The flip is really good too.

Random MovementLesson & Aftermath

I’m going to go back to being crabby and continue sulking as I get my work done.

Liquid Lovin

I actually had a really good weekend. I’ve been really bored with my life lately. Shit just becomes too stagnant when you do the same things over and over again. I haven’t been frequenting Lava as much. I haven’t been kicking it with the usual suspects at the usual places. It was nice to just change stuff up. I hung out with different people and just didn’t do the same things I always do. It was really refreshing.

I went to see Stepbrothers. I admit that Will Ferrell can get annoying but I thought this movie was really funny. I think my expectations were really low and therefore I enjoyed it even more, but for what it was it was ridiculously funny. I laughed the entire time. As long as you don’t go into something pretending it something else you’re usually not going to be disappointed.

I was pretty busy this weekend and didn’t have time to go to the apple store, hence, I’m still ipod less. I rode my bike today, so no one harassed me on the train. I’m excited to get back into my ipod world but at the same time I’ve unfortunately gotten used to the mundane ipodless world.

Saw this new Commercial Suicide release that I’m kinda digging. Chris SU, Stress Level and Ant TC1, you can’t really go wrong there. I haven’t really bought anything by Stress Level and Ant TC1 over the past year, so I’m happy to see something I actually like.

Chris SU & Ant TC1 / Chris Su, Ant TC1 & Stress Level – The Vendetta / Final Cut

The other day in the Bassdrive chat room, people were complaining about Chemical Records. I was so shocked. They were talking about not receiving records and people being rude. It’s weird when a place doesn’t have consistent service. I feel like it’s important to have uniform service. Not to be a consumer nerd but dang, if you don’t make sure your employees treat people all the same way, it’s a sure fire way to lose business. I’ve never had any problems with them. I’ve always had perfect service. My records arrive in a ridiculous record amount of time. All their employees have been nothing but exemplary to me. Crazy that others would have the complete opposite experience. Chemical should really sort that out!

I don’t usually like to post sendspace mixes cuz I like my downloading experience to be a one click operation but this Dj Clart and Simplification mix looks wicked so I guess i’ll concede for today. 🙂

I <3 Weekends

I’m beginning to dread my weekly saturday shift at Adidas. Five more weeks until I no longer work there. I’m just really looking forward to having 2 days off a week. It’s not cool working six days a week. I’ve worked in the retail and restaurant industry for the past 13 years. In both of those arenas, the weekends are where the money is at so I’ve pretty much worked weekends for the past 13 years. Yikes. I don’t know what I’m going to do with myself with two whole days to do as I please. 🙂

I’m kinda enjoying relaxing at work today. My boss is out of town and I’m listening to Spinn on Bassdrive so I guess I have everything I am in current need of for the next 3 hours.  We’ll make this post short and sweet. 😉

LOL

Man, do I love to laugh.  I spend a majority of my day doing just that.  I find everything funny.  I am fortunate that pretty much all of my friends have the same sense of humour as me so I’m pretty much like Dave Chappelle in that one skit where he pretends to be Eminem and he’s like “I got jokes and jokes and jokes and jokes..” 🙂

Usually when I wake up, I just get ready and go straight to work.  I feel like if I’m awake, what’s the point in sitting around waiting to go to work.  Today though my boss is out of town so I decided to take my sweet time and come in around nine.  I spent 2 hours watching Extras instead.  That’s pretty much one of my top 3 favourite shows.  I think Ricky Gervais is hilarious.  I loved the British version of The Office.  I like the American version too but I just like the BBC one more.

I’m always dying of laughter when I watch Extras.  If you ever get a chance to watch it you won’t be disappointed.  If you’re American though you might find season 2 funnier than season 1 cuz I feel like season 1 has more British stars in it and they might not be as funny to you.  The finale of season 1 though has Patrick Stewart and it’s a really great episode.  I’m asking for the dvds for Christmas for sure.

Moving on… I enjoyed listening to Bassdrive again today.  I was listening to Will Miles show.  Bassdrive is kind of a dream for me cuz I just get to listen to non-stop dnb and do my work and it’s not crap.  Heard this Stanza tune called Lost Out that I was really digging.  Will definitely be looking out for that one.

Sir Grumbleton

Me and Stunna have had this joke about grumbling lately. I think grumble is such a great word. I’m doing a whole lot of it today. No specific reason. I”m just mildly discontented with my day and wish I was doing something else. I know it may sound crazy but I think a lot of this feeling has to do with the absence of my ipod. All of a sudden I feel like I have to pay attention to the outside world and it makes me really unhappy. Mainly because I’ve noticed there isn’t really that much interesting going on and it makes me even more disgruntled. At least I can play make believe when I have my ipod on and ignore everyone else. Thank god friday we’ll be here soon and I can by my new ipod and go back to living in my own world.

Another thing, I feel like I’m a “yuppie robot who hates their job and is stuck in traffic.” My best friend used to do a graffiti magazine called Life Sucks Die and they used to make these hilarious stickers with random shit on them. The yuppie robot was one of them.  It was a bumper sticker that said “Honk if you’re a yuppie robot who hates their job and is stuck in traffic!” LOL.  I feel like that lately as I trollop up the escalator with the rest of the a.m. workers who have packed themselves on the morning train. *sigh*

That’s enough grumbling. Aren’t you happy that I’ve managed to keep my complaints about people talking to me on the train out of my entries? It’s been in rare form but I don’t want to sound like a stroppy old cow so I’ve been keeping the whinging to myself. 🙂

I’m listening to Overfiend on Bassdrive.  I keep hearing some bangers but I’m attempting to multi task and by the time I go in the chat room to get the track id, cuz I keep missing Louis say it, nobody cares anymore and doesn’t wanna answer.  I guess I’m not dedicated enough to go chasing anyone to get the tracklist.  Lame , I know, but I’m trying to get some work done.  I naturally have a Laissez-Faire attitude.  If I was supposed to know the name of the track someone would have told me. 😉

I did manage to write down this one.  Intelligent Manners – On The Dance Floor.  I feel like I’ve been hearing a lot of his tracks lately and I’ve definitely been feeling them.

I also like Lenzman & Submorphics’ Respiration.  It fits nicely into my summer vibes collection I’m trying to build. It’s already out so you can pick it up where it’s not sold out like it is on chemical’s website! Way Back When is dope too.  I wrote about it before.

Also loving A-sides to Sugar Sweet.  Hot stuff.

Sorry I don’t have samples for these tracks.  I’m just hearing them for the first time and figured you can be on the look out for them just as I am.

I’m absolutely starving.

My stomach hurts. I ate too many girl scout cookies. 😦

I don’t have anything of great interest to write about today. I’ve been racking my brain to come up with a cool topic and I feel like my mind is pretty empty, which is just crazy cuz there’s always mindless chatter circulating up there.

Freetown

Freetown is the capital of Sierra Leone… just in case you wondering. 😉 That’s where my family is from.

I had a really cool weekend. Just hung out with my mum and went to a bunch of African parties.

Living in London, being an African child was so much a part of my everyday life just cuz all my family lives there. The British colonized so many countries in Africa that there is such an abundance of African people running around. Here in America I’m just seen as the black girl who grew up in London and is from Africa so whenever I go home and kick it all Africa to the max style it’s pretty fun cuz I don’t get to do it on a regular basis.

Madison, Wisconsin has a huge African community. Strange, I know. A lot of people came over for the University and then just kept bringing their relatives over. When my brother got married last year it was seriously an African extravaganza. (That’s what I call them anyways cuz they are always a huge todo) So many different African countries represented and just a huge party. My friends are always trying to get invited to the next soiree cuz they are super fun.

I know as a kid I definitely wasn’t that into being different. it’s not “cool” to be the kid who’s mum always wears African outfits and speaks another language that no one else understands when you’re thirteen. As an adult on the other hand, I totally enjoy it. I’m really into my family and our traditions and what not and I wouldn’t have it any other way. 🙂

Here’s my mum and my brother Martin at his wedding. He had one regular wedding and then an African extravaganza. We got all gussied up in African garb for the African extravaganza. I hate taking pictures and therefore don’t really have any of me at the event but my mum and my bro look pretty cute.

Hmmm. Didn’t mean to write that much about my fam but I guess the whole African thing was heavy on my mind after a weekend with my mum. 🙂

Back to the world of dnb.

I listened to a lot of dnb on the drive home to Wisconsin. There was this really awesome mix I listened to that I thoroughly enjoyed… but you could totally tell that it wasn’t mix by a person. I mean the person tried to play it off like it was. On the download page they wrote a whole paragraph about what brought them to do the mix blah blah blah but it was totally a computer mixing which kinda defeats the purpose doesn’t it? *shrugs*

Heard this High Contrast that I was digging. I feel like I’ve been hearing High Contrast tracks lately that don’t seem to come out. I’m sure I’m wrong in that statement. I should rephrase it as “I hear High Contrast songs and never seem to get a hold of them.” LOL I feel like current High Contrast stuff is ideal for listening but I couldn’t necessarily see myself including them in my set. I would maybe play this latest one but the other one I’ve been loving for a while was Eternal Optimist and I think it’s too slow to actually get my set going.

Adele – Hometown Glory (High Contrast Remix)

Survival & Chris Inperspective – The Source/Herb Minus

There’s also a pretty fresh Survival and Chris Inperspective. The Herb Minus sounds like some of Chris Inperspective’s other tracks but I still like it just the same.

Mixology

I’ve had a pretty good morning. I had a lot of work to get done and nothing makes work go by faster than having really awesome music to listen to. 🙂 I was tuned in to Spinn’s show on Bassdrive and not only did he have an awesome guest mix from dbAudio but his show was just really enjoyable to listen to.

It’s so corny when you say this out loud but it’s totally true, when you mix for an audience it is your responsibility to take them on a “journey.” You kinda have to know your audience and make sure you stay afloat. When you’re mixing at a club you kinda cater your set to the time you’re playing. Opening a show at 9pm and playing all angry white boy dnb probably isn’t the best thing.

In actuality you can play whatever the fuck you want but I’m just talking from a listener’s point of view. I am always in awe of people that can play for multiple hours like that. Spinn’s show is 3 hours long. Dang. (My friend Jessica says dang all the time and it’s just funny to use that word cuz it’s definitely filed in the nerdy word folder along with yowza) If i’m in the mood I can mix for 3 hours but I couldn’t see myself doing it every week. Props to all the superstars that have perfected that art.

Spinn has been playing so many hot tracks and unfortunately I’ve been running round the office and haven’t been able to jot them down in my ultimate nerd notebook. Go to his website and catch the archive if you wanna hear three hours of goodness.

I managed to write this one down though. Good stuff. Bassface Sascha & Franksen – Promised Land.

I can’t believe I manage to post mixes everyday. Thanks to Breaksblog and DnB Share for assisting me with that task. I try my hardest to post mixes that don’t suck. I actually listen to way more random mixes than I post but I wanna make sure they aren’t crap before I post them so it’s usually a lot easier to go with mixes by the usual suspects than just post some random ish and have you go “what the hell is she doing?” I check tracklists a lot. I’m enough of a dnb fan that most of the time if the tracks are good I can ignore the trainwrecking. But… I’m human like everyone else so I’d rather not hear clangalanging in my ear.

All this is leading up to me posting a mix that I haven’t already listened to. 🙂 I hope it’s good. I’ve got no clue who this dude is but I like the tracklist and all this summer jam talk over the past week has made me wanna hear poolside cocktail anthems.

Going home to see my mum. Have a good weekend.
