Friday

Boo.  I totally missed out on that Commix mix.  I meant to download it yesterday but never got around to it and then they took the link down.  Gotta be quick, I guess.

It’s Friday.  Holla.  I remember when my coworker at Adidas got a regular 9 to 5, he said to me that the weekends don’t get old and he’s totally right.  After working retail/restaurant jobs for 13 odd years, the thought of never having to work on a Saturday or Sunday is still the most exciting thing ever and I’ve been working at my regular 9 to 5 for a year. 😉

Tunes:
Paul SG & FX909Never Again (track is in Paul SG player)

RedeyesCruise Ship To The Stars (Chris Su Remix)

The track is in the Spearhead Records player.  This remix is fresh. I love it.

Today’s Oldie:
Brockie & Ed SoloEcho BoxTrue Playaz 2002

Dj Kane – Konga – Undiluted Records 2000 (track is in player)
I decided to do a double whammy on the oldies tip today.  I really wanted to just put the whole Showdown EP.  The Undiluted posse brings back so many interesting memories of old rave days in Minneapolis .  I remember Kane and the lot and our excursions to the Mall of America as well as rescuing them from a motel that another promoter had put them in that was hella ghetto.  They swore they heard gunshots and seeing as the motel was located on Franklin Ave., I wouldn’t be surprised.  Oh the good old Jungle Vibe Collective rave days.

Offshore Recordings has a podcast now.  Looking forward to checking out the first installment.

Kiki On A Roll

I feel determined and productive and ready.  That’s a nice feeling.  It means that I will actually get things done.  I’m on a mission people.

Tunes:

Lenzman feat. Jo-SEmeralds (track is in the Lenzman player)  Everyone’s kinda been geeking about this track and I so wasn’t on the bandwagon… at first.  LOL.  The more I hear it, the more it grows on me and now I kinda love it.

Paul SG & Eros – Cape South (you can hear Cape South on Eros’s page)  Heard this one on Overfiend’s show.  Nice easy going pretty Brazilian type vibe to this tune.  I’m definitely digging it.

Today’s Oldie:

L DoubleSaturday Night Flex (Rollers Revival Remix) Labello Blanco Recordings 1997 I keep making it harder for myself every morning that I forget to look at my records and pick out an oldie.  It becomes a process and a half.  Stunna had an awesome one for me today but I couldn’t find a good sample and I at least like to have a nice mp3 to showcase these great oldies.  I finally remembered this one.  Oh I loved loved loved this tune.  Me saying I love a tune is so lame these days but I can’t help it.  I really do love dnb therefore I love all tunes obsessively until I get sick of them.  *shrugs*  Saturday Night Flex was so organically rowdy how could you not help but love it?  I remember when we had L Double come to Minneapolis and he was the coolest dude ever.  The rave was called Hijack and we had it in an airplane hanger.  I love thinking of old rave times in Mpls.  Warm memories.

I guess I’m having a Lenzman day today. 🙂  Submorphics turned me on to this mix Lenzman did for Gerard’s Drive By show on Kiss 100.  You know I enjoyed it since it has Theives In The Night on it.  I don’t have an mp3 but you can listen to the archive on the Kiss Kube for the rest of this week.

Shiver Me Timbers

I swear I said I liked autumn… not fucking winter. It is really cold outside. Dang.

It’s funny when you have these mini moments in your life where you reflect and you’re like, damn I’m an adult. We went out to dinner for Stunna’s bday last night and it was really nice. All I require for my night to be great these days is the company of my lovely friends and a good meal. I can guarantee you that was not the case when I was in my early 20s. LOL.

I’ve been listening a lot to that Paul SG Bios Podcast for the past two days. What a great mix. I know I talk about Paul SG’s production a lot but you should really check it out. Just awesome stuff. Some gems that I’ve picked out from the mix that I love are Touch and Memphis Blues which is a collabo with Caine. Just listen to the mix. You won’t be sorry. 😉

Today’s Oldie: Cause 4 ConcernSkewer 2001 Renegade Hardware There’s something really sad and eerie about this track that just gets me. I love it. I remember I played it a lot. I just think all the elements have great impact once they hit your ears. I feel like it’s one of those tunes that you just kinda stand in the club and wish you were standing as close to the speaker as possible so you can just blissfully nod your head. Renegade Hardware was one of my main go to labels back then.

If’ you’re down to party tonight, Stunna’s having a bday jam at Seminar. Come out and hear him and Grand Marquee and Radiata. Should be fun times. 🙂

I’m having a hard time finding a mix today.  This Hospital Podcast will have to do.

Work Work Work

How is it that I’ve been so busy?

Had a really good weekend.

Lots more work to do so I better hurry up and get to the post, right?

Loving that Ant TC1 and Survival mix I posted on friday. Awesome tracks.

Also loving the new Redeyes EP.

Redeyes Presents: The Night Is Over EP (Cruise Ship To The Stars and Sugar with Mutt are my faves)

S.P.Y. Seeing Through The Shadows (I really like this one. It totally has this eerie gritty feel to it.)

Atlantic ConnectionPeace of Mind (I’m so late on this tune but I’d actually never heard it before until this weekend and I love it. I’m mad that I slept on it though. I’ll have to try and get a copy)

Komatic – Beijing (It totally has that Autumn (V Recordings) feel to it. Very Pretty. Track is in the player)

Today’s Oldie: Dj DieAutumn (Commix Remix 2004 Liquid V) I remember when I got that Planet V album. 1999 was a good year for dnb I tell ya. This album was sooooooo good. So many awesome tracks. I really liked the feel of Dj Die’s original but I remember I wasn’t really that in to the bassline. I thought it was ok but didn’t think it was up to the calibre of the essence of the track as a whole. I would just play the intro and then mix out once the bassline kicked. 5 years later, enter Commix… I love remixes that still use the same elements of the original and just enhance it by filling in blanks etc. Commix did such an awesome job with this remix. Really great track all round, both original and remix.

TGIF

I wonder how many silly Friday associations I can come up with for titles.  I’m pretty sure I’m running out already.

So apparently my co-worker has had a nervous breakdown and that’s why she hasn’t been in for the past 5 days. Sorry to hear that but it still sucks that we’ve had to do her work all week.

Yay, the weekend’s here. The novelty is wearing off. I’m still excited but it’s not a shock anymore that I don’t work on the weekends.

I would like to include going to see the new Ricky Gervais movie as part of my weekend activities. It’s no secret that I have a crush on that dude. LOL. It’s an intellectual crush. I don’t want to make out with him or anything. I just think he is such a good writer and ridiculously funny. I laugh a lot. It’s an everyday part of my life. I just think a lot of things about life in general are super funny. He seems to point out those things and highlight them constantly and there are so few people who are able to focus on shit like that in an intelligent manner.

Some more jammers:

Submorphics – California Suite (I’m super into Greg’s stuff. I’ve mentioned that before. I know he’s my friend but I don’t just rate his stuff because of that. He became my friend through my loving his production and him living in my neighbourhood, therefore I am able to harass him by talking about his tracks constantly. 😉 It’s just the kind of dnb I like. Track is in the player)

Smote – Off The Wall (No sample for this one but check out his other tracks in his player. Really great stuff.)

Squash – HiFi (Don’t really know much about him but I really like this track.)

Have a great weekend!

Good Times

I had a really good night last night. As I slowly make a name for myself in the geriatric community, I don’t really need much, just good music and good company. Yesterday I had exactly that. The pic is hopefully how I’m starting to look as I enter my senior citizen stages. Dashing old black lady. Dope.

Submorphics and Stunna came over and we did a little preparty and then headed to Lava. I was surprised by Lava, there were people there actually dancing and they weren’t crazy weirdos, it was just people having fun. Really nice vibe and awesome music. I danced a whole bunch. Both Whoa-B and Stunna really threw down. Stunna played a hot number from good old Will Miles that was just banging. I guess it’s a Talkbox Remix that he did. Don’t really have any other info on but just know it’s a hot one! 😉

Heard some jammers yesterday. No samples. 😦

Dj ClartCity of Men

Paul SG & PouyaStanding Alone (Paul SG is seriously one of my faves right now. I love all the stuff he’s doing!)

Stunna & AmaningLandslide (I had actually heard this tune before and meant to write on it but, surprise surprise, I forgot. LOL. I think Stunna and Amanning just make a really good team. Their collabos are always slamming.)

Yesterday Stunna started his Bassdrive show with Commix’s Hung Up. Man, what a great tune. It made me think of this Commix mix from when they were on Fabio’s show last year. It’s a mini mix of some of the tunes they chose not to put on the album and it’s seriously amazing. Just beautiful drum n bass. There’s no tracklist cuz they didn’t even really say the names of the tracks.

Lazy Lima Bean

Remember that skit on In Living Colour where the  Jamaican family was alwaysWanda complaining about how their kids didn’t have enough jobs?  Then Damon Wayans would yell “You lazy lima bean!?”  Today, I’m definitely the lazy lima bean.  I have a ton of boring shit that needs to be done and I’m sure as hell not doing it. 😉  Here’s a gratuitous pic of Wanda just cuz she was one of my fave characters on that show… “You aint got to go nowhere!!  I got you!  I got you!”

My friend CC is going away for the next couple of months.  She has to go train people at the new location of her job out in Tahoe.  It would be kinda awesome to pick up from your life and just go do shit for a couple of months and get paid for it.

Heard a new Paul SG that I’m all about on Overfiend’s show today.  Hot bizness.  Paul SG & FlacoSacrifice.

I’m listening to Stunna’s show right now.  Heard a little gem from Skyform called Hanging.  Nice.

Sorry no samples for the Sacrifice, I just heard it today but Hanging is on Skyform’s page. 🙂

I really don’t have much to discuss.  I’m just feeling ultra slothy.  Maybe it’s the weather.

Don’t Tell Kiki The Babysitter’s Dead

My brother always makes fun of me for my issues about being left out. I’m convinced it’s a drawback of being the middle child. I have no qualms admitting that I suffer from middle child syndrome. You’ve witnessed it many times on here already… “Why don’t I know who Paul SG is?” “Why don’t I own that Zero T and Icicle track?” “Why didn’t anyone tell me I had a high voice?” and the latest “Am I the only one that doesn’t really know anything about beatport?” I act like people purposely exclude me from stuff. 😉

I posted that top 10 of Stunna’s yesterday. I didn’t know you could get the tracks. I’ve actually never used Beatport. Pipeline was telling me how he bought a bunch of tracks off of there the other day. Is it mostly for electronic music? Is it like an itunes store? I feel like I always ask stupid questions so sometimes I just keep shit to myself and live in a bliss of ignorance but then when everyone starts talking about shit I don’t know, I’m all like “How come no one told me?”

I don’t know what I’d do with the mp3s anyways. I guess I could listen to the individual songs on my ipod. I don’t own serato so that’s a no go. I definitely wouldn’t burn them to mix on cdjs because I’m absolutely rubbish on those things. I think it is a combination of being too heavy handed and impatient and therefore not really being able to master them. I’m sure if I didn’t have the attention span of a 3 year old it’s something I could learn to do properly but since I don’t mix out regularly enough to warrant getting the hot new tunes on mp3 I think I’ll just stay in my bliss of ignorance that I talked about a couple of sentences ago.

* Does everyone speak in long run on sentences like I do?? *

Moving on, I can’t remember the name of it but there was this Specific tune that I was nutters about, something about “breaking my heart.” Stunna turned me on to it and I’m pretty sure I even myspaced Specific to tell him how much I loved it. I swear I really don’t think I’m that much of a nerd in real life, crazy, yes, but nerdy, not necessarily all the time. Unfortunately when it comes to dnb I start to do super geeky things. I can’t help it some tunes just make me too excited.

The #3 Vandal Records podcast is by Specific. I’m excited to listen to it. I didn’t listen to the last Vandal podcast but the two before that by Redeyes and Peyo were my favourites for a while. It’s become quite silly to talk about what are my favourites. Basically i like dnb. I have a lot of favourites. The only things I will really say I dislike are clownstep and really noisy angry white boy dnb.

I have a bunch of tracks that I keep wanting to write about but time keeps escaping me. When I get all caught up at work I’ll have to do a list of my top ten or something.

Tracks Galore

I still haven’t gotten a new ipod dock. The apple store is downtown and I just Mr. Belvedere haven’t had time to get there yet. It’s my loss. My ipod died two days ago since it hasn’t been charged. It’s a bonus that I get to listen to music on the way to work but I also use my ipod to deter people from talking to me. Of course the second I don’t have my ipod, yesterday 2 homeless people hit on me and today a white man who looked like Mr. Belvedere and was at least 68 asked me out for coffee. Go figure. I guess it’s nice to know that I attract all kinds. 😉

I was listening to Overfiend’s show on Bassdrive yesterday and there were sooooo many good cuts. I was feeling quite ill (and still am but am at work cuz I’m a trooper) but at least I got to listen to good music. I’m such a nerd I wrote down the key songs I was digging. I totally have a notebook where I keep songs that I hear and would like to get when they come out. Geeky? Yes indeed.

Dan MarshallWord’s Can’t Explain: I’ve heard this song a lot lately. The vocal is awesome.

SubmorphicsDesperate Times: I’m biased. Greg is friend of mine but I actually was a fan of his music before we became friends. I played Make It Happen (the mp3’s are switched so if you wanna hear Make It Happen click on the Young Ax tune) so much that I need a new copy.

Paul SGBright Soul: Am I horrible for not knowing who he is? Well I know him now. He has some awesome stuff. There was another track that he has with Calculon that I loved as well, Part of Me, which was pretty dope too.

Bachelors of ScienceBeautiful Life: Not really much to say here. BOS always have great stuff. I’m a big fan of theirs.

I just picked up that Makoto and Marky Rush Hour EP. Loving Get 2 This.

The workload has subsided a little so I’m just enjoying listening to music and focusing on revisions. Bailey opens his set up with our favourite dreadlocked wonder Will Miles and also has some serious action with my newest dnb obsession, Survival (yeh yeh yeh, I’m late jumping on the bandwagon) I’m twenty minutes in and already lovin it.  I guess I can tolerate Bailey’s love of the clown for a DNAudio set. 🙂
