Blah Blah Blah

Got a lot of stuff to do at work today so I’m getting an early start to my entry.

I’ve been feeling a bit blah lately.  I need to get my ass in gear and be productive.  Instead I find myself being quite lazy which is so not cool.  Bah.  Sometimes you just go through slumps so I’ll just chalk it up to that and hope I snap out of it soon.

Tracks I’m loving:

BCee & Lomax – One Year On (Random Movement Remix) Track is in the BCee player.

MetrikZero Gravity It’s a little rowdy but sometimes I get in the mood for that.  Rowdy by my standards anyways.  LOL.

Today’s Oldie:  PeshayMiles From Home – Mo Wax 1998  Totally missed out on this record.  Boo.  I remember not really being that into Peshay stuff at the time and when this track came out I didn’t even bother to listen to it.  Then one of the boys in my dj crew played it out at one of his gigs and I wanted it so bad but when I went to get it there were no more.  Love it.  I’m sure if I tried hard enough I could get a bunch of the tracks that i missed out on but unfortunately since my record addiction is a hobby I’ll have to wait til i win the lottery to devote funds to getting them.

I’ve been talking a lot about the new shows I’ve been listening to on Bassdrive.  Komatic’s is one of them that I am newly excited about.  Here’s his October studio mix.  You can check him out for yourself.

DnB & Kiki

It’s tuesday. I wish I had something exciting to report but I don’t. I guess since my weekend was busy enough I have to keep the rowdiness at a minimum for now.

Hot tunes:

Dan Marshall – Smoke & Mirrors Remember when I was on that whole Dan Marshall kick? I Still love him, I just haven’t been keeping up on his newer stuff that’s all. Loving this Smoke & Mirrors. Sorry no sample as it’s a dub but as always go check out his other tunes on his site. I believe there’s a Random Movement remix too. Dope.

KomaticHidden Light Love this one. We all know I’m a sucker for a pretty melody and pretty voice. I just recently started listening to Komatic’s show on Bassdrive and I must say I’m quite a fan.

As an obsessive dnb lover I’m surprised that I managed to even live my life without Bassdrive up til now. My number one problem with being a dnb fan living in America was I didn’t have enough contact with the music. I never became a dj because I like mixing. I like it enough, I’m just not that obsessed with the turntables. I became a dj because that was the only way for me to hear these tracks I was obsessed with out loud on a ridiculous sound system in the order that I wanted to hear them. Then the whole raver community thing happened and I was like wow this is cool, not only do i get to hear these tracks at a ridiculously loud decibel but I also get to meet others who love this music as much as I do and we can be corny and talk about how much we love tracks. LOL. Obviously this is no different from any other music scene but the drawback is electronic music isn’t on the same mainstream level that other genres are. I always dreamed of being able to listen to drum n bass whenever I felt like it. That’s why I became so adept at finding mixes online. I just wanted to make sure that whenever I wanted to listen to it I would have something new, new to me anyways, to listen to. I always loved going home to London because the second I would step into my dad’s house I would just turn on the radio and voila, tunes galore. I guess I’m lucky that I have an office job where I’m allowed to listen to music because Bassdrive has made me a pretty happy person. I tune in and I hear all the new jams and it’s awesome.

My, I’m awfully chatty today. 😉

Today’s Oldie: Dj Hype feat. Mc FatsPeace, Love & UnityTrue Playaz 1996 Doing these oldies every day brings back so many memories. It sounds so cheesy to say but from the second I heard dnb I felt like I’d found something that made sense to me and lets be honest, when you’re a teenager that’s a total blessing. From jump I’ve always been overly enthusiastic about dnb. I just love it. I was so excited about the True Playaz label. I was obsessed with Dj Hype and obsessed with the whole jump up era and had just discovered Dj Zinc and hearing that they were starting a new label sounded like the coolest thing ever at that time. The basslines killed me. I loved that these tracks had become songs I could identify. This was my first time hearing Mc Fats and I loved him. I guess you could say that this record was definitely a very significant one in my dnb life.

Granted I’m always excited to listen to Stunna mixes but this tracklist looks especially tasty.

Chillin’

I woke up this morning with an air of serenity enveloping me. No I’m not trying to become a poet. It really was just how I felt. I’ve been steady calm for the past 7 hours. I did wake up an hour earlier than I usually do so maybe the serenity had something to do with the stillness of 4:27 a.m. Regardless, I like it.

There’s not much going on at my work today. I’m caught up for the time being.

I’ve been enjoying the mixes I’ve downloaded recently a lot. That Zetek Podcast is dope, so is that Numeral Mix and also the Ney Faustini Vandal Podcast and that Atlantic Connection Mix.

I like this one:

Redeyes & Random MovementHow Many Ways It’s not ridiculously amazing or anything but it is really pretty and I’m secretly an R&B lover, therefore I cannot pass up any dose of Toni Braxton whatsoever 😉

Happy Happy Joy Joy

I’m having a great day today.  It’s just nice to wake up in a good mood and have it continue hours and hours into the rest of the day.

Some new faves….

Lenzman – Bright Lights (track is in the player)

Saburuko & Brother – In Control (track is in the player)

Naibu – Fireflies (track is in the player)

Redeyes & Random Movement feat. MuttGroove Thing (track is in the Redeyes player) Nice collabo going on there.  Three of my favourite artists.  This is coming out on Future RetroBCee has a really good thing going with both Future Retro and Spearhead, I love a lot of the tracks that come out on both of them.

People are always asking me why I love liquid funk so fucking much.  LOL.  I’ve said this on numerous occasions but I’ll say it again…  I basically want pretend that I’m hanging out in a beautiful garden with multicoloured pastel drinks with umbrellas in them while lying in a hammock with sunglasses and pretty flower aroma blowing in the breeze and the sun shining through the trees but not on me as I don’t want it to be too hot.  Liquid funk pretty much helps me to create that pretend scenario,  Noisa on the other hand usually does not.  🙂

I’m halfway into this Zetek podcast mix and I already love it.  I will full on admit that I had no idea who he was until today but I’m definitely digging him now.

Chunky Monkey

Went to Seminar last night. Greg had a really lovely set. Hung out with Ju Ju, chatted a lot with Stunna about dnb. I love our little chats. He really is my dnb encyclopedia. Discussed a lot about how much i’m digging Donnie Dubson’s stuff. His Anti Depressing Soul Music EP just came out on promo and it’s just dope. Goonies is definitely my favourite track on there but I really do love all four tracks. Here’s some gratuitous Chunk for no reason whatsoever. 😉

I’m having a pretty average day. Nothing too spectacular to report.

Shouts to Jamar for helping translate Maxtekk’s page. 🙂

P.S.

On the page that had this Random Movement mix there was also Calibre and Marky’s b2b set from the same night. I would have posted it except for the fact that there is the most horrid emcee chatting throughout and I couldn’t take it, which is a bummer cuz it sounded like there were some decent tracks in the mix. Here’s the link if you feel like you can handle the dude’s voice. Don’t fret though this Random Movement mix doesn’t disappoint. I’ve been listening to it for the past couple of days. Mike is on fire lately, I swear, he’s got so many tracks floating around!

Busy Body

Is busy body one word or two? And… Does anyone use that term besides my mum and 75 year old ladies??

Ugh my throat hurts again. 😦

Lame.

It’s 2:20 p.m. The clock needs to move a wee bit faster in my opinion.

Listening to Stunna on Bassdrive, you should tune in.

Busy, busy, busy. I’m sure there’s a ton of stuff I could talk about but I’m a bit too preoccupied.

Tracks I’m loving…

Donnie Dubson – 6am (track is in the player)

Technicolour – Half A Chance (no sample. eek)

Random Movement – Reasoning With The Weeds (no sample again. boo.)

If I was a dnb superstar I could probably get these samples to share, but alas I am not and therefore am just a timewasting blogger who alerts you of tracks I think are cool. 😉

Can’t say I’m too excited about the Calibre Electric Soul EP. It’s good but I won’t die if I don’t own it.

I’m all about this Neon mix though. Listened to it this morning. Am I the only one that didn’t know Russia was all about dnb?

Mes Amis

I’m a wee bit crabby today. Boo. 😦

Too much annoying work and I sure as hell don’t feel like doing it, which is just pathetic since it’s only tuesday. Boo squared.

I am really looking forward to this weekend though. It’s my friend Jessica’s 30th bday and a bunch of our friends from Minneapolis are coming for the weekend. Jessica is one of my oldest and dearest friends. She was my old roomate when I lived in Minneapolis and she moved to Chicago the year after I did. I think it was a bonus for me because I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t have settled in as easily to my Chicago lifestyle if I hadn’t had someone that was a good friend that knew me really well to kick it with while I went on my quest to meet new people.

I’m quite fond of my friends. Five of them from Minneapolis are coming up for the weekend and they are both mine and Jessica’s mutual really good friends. I know it sounds dumb and corny to talk about how much you appreciate your friends, but as you get older it’s a lot harder to make new friends. I’ve had the same tight knit group of friends for 11 to 12 years. They aren’t acquaintances who I just see out. They are genuine people who have been a part of my life consistently and actually care about what happens to me. I thought that everyone had those go to people that they rely on no matter what but I’m discovering that that isn’t really always the case and therefore I am very grateful for my friends. The key test to friendship is when you have significantly big changes in your life, whether or not those people continue to be your friends. Be it having a child, moving to a different state or getting married. All three of these things have happened to our group of friends and our friendships are still in tact and still as strong. I’m quite fortunate that I met some really great people once I moved to Chicago too and have added them to my little group. I hope others have the same luck I do cuz honestly, there’s nothing better than having great friends. 🙂

*end of emo rant*

I heard some new Hospital Records stuff that wasn’t really my cup of tea. Bah, I think I might just not be that into the direction they are heading these days. No harm done. Not every sound is gonna please everyone. it’s still a pretty good label regardless.

Part one of Redeyes’ LP is out on promo. I really like the Conart track. I can’t say I’m really into that Deeizm track. I think she’s a really great emcee but I kinda get annoyed when the vocals tend to dominate a whole track unless your Diane Charlemagne or something. Yeah I’m a picky bitch. Whatever.

RedeyesPoetry In Motion LP Part 1

I’ve been waiting for this Random Movement for ages. I fucking love this Lesson & Aftermath. It’s so melodic and just plain ol lovely, beautiful, liquidy, pretty, all those adjectives and then some. Definite make out music. 😉 The flip is really good too.

Random MovementLesson & Aftermath

I’m going to go back to being crabby and continue sulking as I get my work done.

Calling All Patients…

I absolutely promise that today is the last day I write about being sick. I’m even sick of writing about it so Im sure you’re sick of hearing about it. I know I’m feeling better but I’m really not well. I justTonsilitis don’t feel like I’m dying anymore which is a definite step up. My throat is still really swollen though and I’ve got a really horrible headache. I haven’t eaten any real food for like seven days. I’ve been surviving on a soup and Jamba Juice diet because my taste buds are shot and my throat is too swollen for me to actually swallow anything. I like soup and Jamba Juice as much as the next person but for seven days in a row it’s not really that appetizing. I’ve finally decided that if I’m not fully better by thursday I’ll go to the doctor. It’s hard for me to consider actually going to the doctor because I never get sick and it’s not something I do that frequently. Usually I just wait for whatever I’ve got to go away on it’s own and it usually does but this, whatever it is, is staying put. I’m also pretty sure that my throat looks like the pic to the right, which is not cute. Sorry for the gross pic but we’re family now and I think you too should share in my misery. 😉

Moving on, I went to the bike shop with CC yesterday. I’ve been trying to figure out what would be the best bike for me. I’m not trying to become a professional bike messenger type person. I just wanna ride my bike to work and around my neighbourhood. I’m willing to spend some money on it so I don’t necessarily think I should have to buy a bike from Target. I also have steep stairs so the bike has to be light enough that I can carry it without dying. I’ve decided to get a used one and fix it up. CC’s completely obsessed with her bike and she spent quite a pretty penny on it so she kinda knows what she’s doing and has been giving me some pointers. She also practically lives at the bike shop so at least I know the people won’t be a dick to me. We discussed all my needs and what I would have to get done and it seems like it’s all gonna go pretty well so I’m excited for next week’s prospects.

I guess I should make an official post about tomorrow. If you live in the Chi Town area, I’m playing at Lava. Random Movement is the Headliner. I’ll be playing from 10 til Midnight. I think it’s a pretty fun night but I’m biased because that’s where all my friends are. If you like dnb it’s definitely good local fun. Come hang out.

Seminar Flier

I heard this new Chase & Status tune the other day that I’m kinda digging Take Me Away. It’s weird how Chase & Status is so hit and miss for me. I really like the first tune and then you listen to the other one and I’m like ugh. There’s also a pretty cool Zero T remix of Leave Me Alone.

Anyways. That’s enough yapping for now.

Back In Business

Miserable ToddlerI’ve felt like that crabby baby to the right for the past seven days. Fortunately I no longer feel that way. I’m not 100% but I at least don’t feel like I’m about to keel over and die.

All in all I had a pretty good weekend. I got all hopped up on meds and went to Bass Goes Boom on friday. Man, if you live in Chicago and you love dubstep and don’t go to this night, you’re crazy. Chef absolutely killed it. That night is really fun. It was nice to see Mike too both him and Tim threw down as well.

I finally went to the apple store and invested in a new ipod dock. Yay. I managed to get to work today with not a single person saying a word to me… just how I like it. I definitely have missed my ipod. Welcome back buddy.

Since I’ve been sick my equilibrium is all off and my hearing was all fucked up and I’ve had a really hard time mixing but I’m happy to say that my hearing has returned slightly. Not fully, but enough that I at least don’t feel like I’m sitting in a tin can. I’m playing at Lava on wednesday for the Random Movement show and it should be an interesting set to say the least.  The night will include 3 of my favourite things so it really can’t end up being that horrid, 1) My friends 2) Drum n Bass 3) Lava. 😉

Found this Doc Scott Mix. Everyone on Breaksblog seems to be raving about it so hopefully it’s enjoyable.
