It’s my birthday in two weeks. I love this time of year. I’m an autumn baby and love this season to bits. The greyness, the leaves all over the ground. Awesome. I pretty much dream of weather where I can wear just a hoodie year round but instead will settle for the months of September and October.

My bike has a flat tire. Lame.

Future Sound of Cambridge Vol. 3 – Some nice tracks on there from the likes of Nu:Tone, Logistics and Commix. A couple of tunes that I’ve talked about before are on there. Dunno if I’ll be picking it up… Watch someone’s gonna play one of these tracks out and I’ll hear it on a loud sound system and be annoyed I didn’t buy it. Story of my life. ๐Ÿ™‚

It’s the kind of day where you really want to just sit at home and be all cozied up on the couch. Alas I’ll be at my desk.

Today’s oldie: Jonny L – Moving Thru Air (Optical Remix) – XL Recordings 1998 I definitely was quite the Optical fan back then. I will fully admit that I had an all out dnb crush on him. I think mentally I was just on this gritty plane where I wanted my music to be raw and disgruntled yet melodic but not loud and noisy and to me Optical’s production was just that. Really great tune.

Today’s Oldie: Dj Die – Autumn (Commix Remix 2004 Liquid V) I remember when I got that Planet V album. 1999 was a good year for dnb I tell ya. This album was sooooooo good. So many awesome tracks. I really liked the feel of Dj Die’s original but I remember I wasn’t really that in to the bassline. I thought it was ok but didn’t think it was up to the calibre of the essence of the track as a whole. I would just play the intro and then mix out once the bassline kicked. 5 years later, enter Commix… I love remixes that still use the same elements of the original and just enhance it by filling in blanks etc. Commix did such an awesome job with this remix. Really great track all round, both original and remix.

I have totally been a crappy blogger the past couple of days. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ This week has been super busy for me so I’m actually happy to see the weekend show it’s beautiful face.

There’s a lot of stuff going on for me today. Not only is it Reisha’s bday but she’s also graduating from college AND it’s Ike’s going away party which is also a combo bash for Stunna’s bday. Yikes, that’s a lot of stuff.

Today’s Oldie: Kraken – Side Effects (Underfire 1999) This track is ridiculous. I remember people going insane over it. I was one of them.ย  So sick!ย  Great fun to mix and just grimey.ย  Love it!

Yeh so I’m djing at Seminar tonight.ย  If you live in the Chi, come out.

I was practicing yesterday and I sounded like shit.ย  Everything was sounding ultra wack.ย  We’ll see how it goes.ย  I’m not gonna stress on it anymore, I’m having an annoying enough morning as it is.ย  If my set ends up being horrible, I’ll get over it.ย  All in all it’s an opportunity for all my friends to come hang out and drink.ย  See, I like to have positive outlooks.

I have a lot of work to do.ย  I’m not happy about it at all.ย  The words crabby bitch come to mind.ย  I definitely do not look anything like this picture below today.ย  What a lovely pleasant person I am today!ย  LOL!

Today’s Oldie:ย  Dj SS – Black (Formation Records 1995)ย  I had just become obsessed with jungle whenย  I first heard this record.ย  I had spent the two years prior trying to get my hands on every ragga jungle mix tape I could come across.ย  I remember I had gone to a rave in London with my cousin where SS had played and I was amazed when I heard Whitney Houston coming through the speakers.ย  It was one of the very first jungle tracks that I loved that used an R&B sample.ย  I knew back then I had made the right choice to become ridiculously obsessed with this music! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Mind The Gap Please

My train ride to work was absolutely hilarious. To me it was anyways. The pure hilarity of being on a train car that’s chocablock full and you have to stand soooo close to other people while pretending that it’s not really that big of a deal is just pure comedy to me. I was seriously sandwiched between these two dudes that were some how on either side of me, grossgusting grinding in a douchebag club style, and all three of us had to pretend that it wasn’t weird. I kept listening to my ipod and tried to look down on the floor but I really just thought the whole thing was way too funny. At some point I did bust up laughing. They weren’t really that amused and I’m sure decided I was crazy. Whatever though, I’m totally used to people thinking I’m weird so I just laughed merrily and waited to get off at my stop.ย  Silly morning indeed.

I must say that I don’t really ride my bike to work as much anymore. I am still in love with it but I know that I’m not enough of an enthusiast that I have to be on it all hours of the day. I love the whole riding aspect but I don’t think I’m obsessed enough with it to cart it to every single destination and go through the whole locking up process. I find it quite annoying actually. Yes I’m easily annoyed, ask any of my friends, they’ll agree. It’s just that lately I’ve had so much stuff to do after work that the thought of having to lock my bike up 4 or more times after I get off work is just ghastly to me. I know bike enthusiasts everywhere are closing the browser in disgust!!! Instead I just ride when I know that they’ll only be a one or two stop lock up process and make up for it by trying to go for a nice bike ride on the weekend. I had a lovely scenic hour and a half session on sunday morning. I think I’m gonna make sure to carve more time out for it because before we know it the snow we’ll be here and I won’t be able to ride anymore.

Toodloo to my buddy CC. She moves to Tahoe today. I am excited at the prospect of having another holiday spot to visit. Now if I could only figure out how to get on the European paid holiday schedule (4 weeks paid vacay!!?? Unheard of!) I would be fine.

I Want That New New Ish!

I won’t lie, I get very disgruntled when I don’t have a decent amount of new records to play when I mix out. Between being busy and not being rich and there not being a ton of records that have been released (of course all my favourites are unreleased dubs) that I felt like I needed to own, I find myself salty that I don’t have a satisfactory amount of new records that I can play at my gig on wednesday. Lame.

On the mix forefront though, I have some really awesome ones that I am still listening to. That Brother one is fucking awesome. So many amazing tracks. Shouts to Moonbay, I too am still listening to the Methodus. ๐Ÿ™‚ That Paul Reset is on heavy rotation and the Numeral is just lovely. Basically I raved out in my house to dnb the entire weekend. Laundry and cleaning a messy room are a pleasure when you have a good mix to listen to.

I was so busy the last couple of days that I didn’t post an oldie. I reckon today’s one has to be dope to make up for it. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I wonder how many silly Friday associations I can come up with for titles.ย  I’m pretty sure I’m running out already.

So apparently my co-worker has had a nervous breakdown and that’s why she hasn’t been in for the past 5 days. Sorry to hear that but it still sucks that we’ve had to do her work all week.

Yay, the weekend’s here. The novelty is wearing off. I’m still excited but it’s not a shock anymore that I don’t work on the weekends.

I would like to include going to see the new Ricky Gervais movie as part of my weekend activities. It’s no secret that I have a crush on that dude. LOL. It’s an intellectual crush. I don’t want to make out with him or anything. I just think he is such a good writer and ridiculously funny. I laugh a lot. It’s an everyday part of my life. I just think a lot of things about life in general are super funny. He seems to point out those things and highlight them constantly and there are so few people who are able to focus on shit like that in an intelligent manner.

I woke up this morning with an air of serenity enveloping me. No I’m not trying to become a poet. It really was just how I felt. I’ve been steady calm for the past 7 hours. I did wake up an hour earlier than I usually do so maybe the serenity had something to do with the stillness of 4:27 a.m. Regardless, I like it.

There’s not much going on at my work today. I’m caught up for the time being.

I’ve been enjoying the mixes I’ve downloaded recently a lot. That Zetek Podcast is dope, so is that Numeral Mix and also the Ney Faustini Vandal Podcast and that Atlantic Connection Mix.

Golden Oldies

I had a nice weekend despite the ridiculous rain.

Yesterday I mixed for an obscene amount of time. I went through my records and just picked all the old tracks that I wanted to play which turned into a session including Bad Company, Ram people, Lifting Spirits, Matrix and so forth that went on for about 3 hours. I had a blast. Then I did a session of newer stuff which went on for about another 3 hours. I also did a four turntables session for the first time with Caleb. That was also a blast. He has an insane record collection so we just did a set of old skool house rave classics from early 90s onward. Pretty awesome. I was at Reisha’s house from about 230pm til iike 10. LOL. Caleb has a pretty nice studio and we can play as loud as we want. He also won this dj competition recently so he got these brand new ridiculously awesome monitors that just make it like you’re having your own little rave in the studio. Basically I just hung out and ate food played with the baby and listen to loads of music.

I’ve decided I’m going to start picking an old track for the day. It won’t necessarily have to be dinosaur years old, just not from 2008. ๐Ÿ™‚
